Robes of Arcana - Gone, But Not Forgotten

Robes of Arcana - Long Gone, But Not Forgotten

For this month's topic for the Gold Blogging Carnivals at Cold's Gold Factory, I've decided on the topic of obsolete markets from the past.  More specifically, we are looking into great gold making auction house markets from the past that are no longer profitable and what we can learn from those old markets.  I'm focusing on one of my old school favorite niche markets, the market for the now obsolete: Robes of Arcana.

The Old Robes of Arcana Niche

The Robes of Arcana market was a wonderful gold making market for my Tailor for years!  Why was it so profitable?  The Robes of Arcana was craftable by Tailors and was required for a 7 part Warlock only quest chain.  The Tailor crafted item was in demand because not all Warlocks are Tailors, which means not all Warlocks could craft the item for themselves.  Better yet, even if you were a Tailor you still probably couldn't craft your own Robes of Arcana because the recipe was a rare drop (Less than 1% drop rate) off of only 3 specific types of mobs in Azeroth.  The 7 part quest chain that required the Robes during one of the quests ended with a nice blue chest piece quest reward.  The quest was level 31, but the rewarded Enchanted Gold Bloodrobe was a level 38 item with very nice stats (+17 Int / +10 Sta).  Anyone with twinking experience or experience Enchanting twink gear should immediately see a nice benefit already since this item attainable at lower levels could hold much more powerful chest enchants.

So combine a quest required item needed to get an overpowered piece of gear, along with a rare recipe drop, and twinking potential and you've got the recipe for a nice money maker.  Now add in the fact that the Robes of Arcana also required 2 Spider's Silk (always in high demand and low supply) in the recipe (4 Bolts of Silk Cloth & 2 Fine Thread as well) and you've got plenty of reasons to jack the price up sky high for a real nice profit.

Of course I had my own recipe, as it was always in my snatch list along with Spider Silk, and I also bought other copies just to keep them out of the hands of other Tailors who might compete with me.   I would craft the Robes of Arcana for a crafting cost of 10-20 gold each and sell them all day long for 75 gold, which was a hefty price back in Vanilla WoW.  I got away with selling tons of these with nearly non-existant competition all the way up to The Shattering just before the Cataclysm launch when both the recipe and the quest chain were removed from the game.

What Can We Learn?

World of Warcraft is an ever evolving and growing game.  Things are constantly changing being changed, added or removed from the game.  The Robes of Arcana saw the same fate that a lot of the profession crafted items did as Blizzard started to make a change that still irks me to this day.  There used to be a lot of items that were required for quest turn ins that were only available from other characters and their crafting professions.  Check out this post I did in July of 2010 where I listed most of the profession crafted items that were required for quest turns ins: Master Quest Craftables List.   Sure aren't many items left on that list worth crafting anymore as most of the related quests have been removed from the game.

I really enjoyed the cross dependence among the player base on your server because if you needed one of these items you had to either craft it yourself, find a guild member with the pattern, or hunt for the item in the trade channel or on the WoW auction house.  This helped to established continued markets for lower level items and lower skilled crafters could easily make gold on the auction house too.  Without more of these lower level niche markets we've got most crafters stuck in the same markets on the higher skill ends of profession crafting along with everyone else.

The removal of requiring profession crafted items for quests is just one piece of the dumbing down and simplifying of the game to make it easier for beginners.  As the game gets easier, unfortunately so does our options for viable crafting niche markets.

Bring back quest required crafted items, Blizzard!

Imperial Silk Now Awards Pets Post Patch 5.1

Tailoring Pets From Silkworm Cocoon Daily

Imperial Silk's Silkworm Cocoon

The daily Tailoring cooldown, Imperial Silk, got a nice buff when we got Warcraft's Patch 5.1.  Prior to Patch 5.1, Imperial Silk was crafted and placed directly into your Tailor's bags.  After the launch of WoW Patch 5.1, Blizzard has changed the process up a bit.

Enter...The Silkworm Cocoon

The Silkworm Cocoon

The Silkworm Cocoon is a new intermediate step added into the creation of the Tailoring daily item, Imperial Silk.  Instead of just having the Imperial Silk added directly to your bag, you now get a Silkworm Cocoon.  Opening the Silkworm Cocoon you will find your single piece of Imperial Silk, but on the rare case you may also find a companion pet!

That is correct!  When you craft your daily Imperial Silk, you also have a chance to be awarded one of two companion pets.  The 2 pets that can come from within the Silkworm Cocoon are:
  1. Imperial Silkworm (~17% chance)
  2. Imperial Moth (~2% chance)
The Imperial Silkworm is a green colored uncommon pet, while the Imperial Moth is a blue colored Rare pet.  Both of these pets are not bound to you and can be sold on the auction house.  The Silkworm Cocoon is the only source for these 2 pets, so Tailors have a unique gold making item with these 2 pets.

So make sure you don't forget to park that Tailoring alt in the Silken Fields and crank out those Silkworm Cocoons each day!

How To Make Gold Without Professions | Embersilk Cloth Farming Method 2500g in 30 mins

The following is a guest post from the WoW Newsletter Team over at http://freewowresource.info
feel free to check them out.

How To Make Gold Without Professions
*Embersilk Cloth Farming Method 2500g in 30 Mins*

Hey! Gamebox from the Newsletter Team here and I would like to give a hearty hello to all the members here at Colds Gold Factory. Thank you for having me today. But, before we carried away with formal pleasantries lets get down to the meat and potatoes of this post.

The Overview

The Majority of your gold-making time will be spent in the NE corner of Deepholm bashing away at the creatures who inhabit the Verlok Stand. This area, for the most part, is usually completely isolated and quite frankly, hard to find. There are no quests available to date that involve this sub-zone directly. Meaning, there will be more mobs to go around and less competition even on the most populated realms (I play on Emerald Dream and there's damn near any competition there).
Also, the mobs are tightly compacted into one area and deal melee damage exclusively, which makes rounding up and controlling them a trivial task for any character. Oh, and did I mention that re-spawn times are almost instant?

Getting Prepared, What Your Gonna Need

There's a couple things that can make this strategy all the more better, actually we've been brainstorming some new ideas this week. Here's the gist of what you're gonna need.

(Absolutely Critical) Potion of Treasure Finding

This potion is actually the foundation of this strategy. If you've never used the Potion of Treasure Finding, then quickly take note of it and add it to your gold making arsenal. Right now! When you consume this potion, upon looting enemies in the listed zones, you get roughly a 10% chance of spawning a little mini treasure chest that contains some neat randomized loot. Don't worry, you won't be getting any junk either. Every chest spawns at least 2-7g in addition to some cataclysm old world trade goods or greens. Expect to get chests that contain up to ½ a stack of cloth and ores. And expect them often. Many times when killing a group of 18 or more mobs I've had the good fortune of getting 3 of these chest at once. Needless to day, its a great feeling.

(Recommended) Level 86+ Character to Solo

The farm can be done with a level 85 (I do in the video) but, it can be a little difficult to farm with a cloth wearing characters that aren't level 90 yet. However, as long as your character can kill big groups of mobs at once and has sufficient self healing you should be O.K. I personally haven't had any problems farming this on a DK, Pally, Mage, Druid, Shaman, nor Monk.

(Optional) 525 Enchanting +

Why? Because your gonna be receiving lots and lots of green loot. Due to the lack of bracer enchant options at the moment, old world bracer scrolls are fetching a pretty nifty price in the market right now. Your profits will greatly increase if you can offer an enchanting service using your freshly acquired mats.

Getting There and Pulling Mobs:

Alliance: The portal to Deepholm is found South of Stormwind Keep at the huge lakes.
Horde: The portal to Deepholm is found in the Valley of Wisdom just before the vendors.

When you zone into Deepholm look for the Verlok Strand in the Northeastern Hemisphere. Its a long strip just a bit north of the crimson expanse. Upon arrival you should see a seemingly endless stream of mobs just ripe for the pickin'. A good way to go about this would be to start from the beginning or end of the platform and work your way to the other side. This way, the re-spawns wont keep you in combat and by the time you just finish up traveling from one end to the other, the mobs in the opposite direction have already re-spawned! Common sense? Yes! Do most people do this? No.. Keeping this in mind will enable you to work more efficiently, save yourself some time, and in the end make a little more gold.
Side Note For Working Efficiently: Make sure you pull as many mobs as you can possibly handle at one time. Don't waste time killing just 3 when you can be killing 20.

Recounting The Loot:

This is the most entertaining and my favorite part of the farm (and hopefully yours too). Below is a list featuring the loot I collected from one 30 minute session and the prices each item fetched in the AH or as vendor trash.   *NOTE* These are the prices on Emerald Dream.  Your server's prices may be slightly higher or lower than the values listed here.
Gold Gained Looting Mobs = 128g
Gold Gained Looting Chests = 82g
Gold Gained Vendoring Greens = 62g
Gold Gained Vendoring Grays = 43g
Gold Gained Selling Volatiles = 160g
Gold Gained Selling Pyrite Ore = 27g
Gold Gained Selling Embersilk = 2010g

Total Amount = 2512g in 30 mins

Not bad for 30 minutes of farming is it? Just take note that the potion of treasure finding lasts for 1 hour, so ideally, you'd want to farm for an additional 30 minutes to get the most bang for your buck. Give this a try and let us know what you think. If you liked this article and want to see many more like it, then subscribe to our Gold Newsletter over at http://Freewowresource.info. Thank you again Cold for having me tonight and happy farming on behalf of the team.

Cheers,

- Newsletter Team

Edit From Cold - Use your tailor to do the farming and you'll get even more Embersilk Cloth thanks to the Cloth Scavenging bonus that all Tailors get in the higher level zones.  Also, instead of selling the Embersilk Cloth in it's raw cloth form, convert it to the max slot profession bags (patterns locked behind Firelands Dailies) for even more profits.  Profession Bags are still selling strong and for hefty profits.  This farming strategy is even better now with the AoE Looting addition to World of Warcraft.

The Colored Shirts Market & A Reader Response

Colored Shirts For Sale
Reader Response

In response to yesterday's post on Setting Your Own Market Prices In An Empty Market, one of the subscribers to the Gold Tips Newsletter sent in the following email.  I would like to share it with you today.

Well Written!!!!

Scottie this is fantastic!

BTW - I am a bit of a greedy goblin. There are 3 other Rich Purple Silk Shirt players on the Jubei auction house market and they insist on putting their shirts on at 30 gold each. I tend to buy them out and bark:

“Are you sure you are [Epic] ? What colour is your shirt?? [Rich Purple Shirts] to complete the set. AH NOW!!”

And I manage to sell 3 or so at 180 gold each, but I do end up with a bit of a monopoly over the market and a stack of pre-made Rich Purple Silk Shirts.

I also have had fantastic luck, as Mageweave is really cheap on our server.  I get some Lavander shirts, pink shirts, as well as the formal shirts at 5 gold per, and they are my main bread and butter from shirt sales.

Funnily though I make more money from my tailor than I do with my Jewelcrafter. That somehow feels wrong, but whatever gets the job done I guess.

All the best mate and God Bless!

Kind Regards,

John Vergara
Thanks for the submission John!  I love it when I get supportive email, but it's even cooler to see that readers are actually using some of the auction house tactics and WoW gold making tips that I provide here at Cold's Gold Factory.  It's nice to see that you have been barking items in trade chat as well.  Barking is a great way to increase your sales both on the WoW auction house and with direct player to player sales.

The Colored Shirt Market and Transmogrification

John brings up a great niche market here that I predict is only going to become even more lucrative.  What market is that?  The Shirt market is a nice niche market right now, but I bet it will see a nice demand spike after Transmogrification (Mogging) comes to World of Warcraft in Patch 4.3.  Once Patch 4.3 drops and players are completing their gear sets to transmogrify, the last piece of the puzzle will be getting a Shirt that matches your chosen gear set.

I'll use my goblin warrior twink, Goldgrub, as an example here.  Once Patch 4.3 brings Transmogrification into WoW and I have my twink gear set completed, I will be Mogging all of his armor to gold colored gear.  At that point I will probably want to change his shirt to something yellow to match the yellow / gold colored gear set.  Of course I will just make it myself, but most WoW players will turn to the auction house to find their gear matching colored shirts.  This should be an even better market than it is currently, thanks to the introduction of Transmogrification in Patch 4.3.
Keep an eye on the potential of the colored shirts market.

Reader Response To Yesterday's Post

Blogger Warning Revisited

Reader Response To Yesterday's Post

I read your article about some bloggers using their wiles to control the market. One post from justmytwocopper.org sprang to mind.

The post is called enchant gloves gatherer and pattern herbalist leather gloves. Read it Here. After reading the post and being horde, I thought wow! If I could snag that pattern and use my leatherworker to craft it, I would be one of the only horde on my server with the pattern. I don't play Alliance at all, so a cross faction trade is not feasible for me. I posted in trade for a couple weeks with no results, many had never even heard of the pattern, so I regularly checked both my faction and neutral ah for the pattern. Finally! I snagged the pattern and immediately made several pair of these gloves to make back the paltry 400g I paid for them.

My next step was to have a friend make me some gatherer enchants. I had my macro for trade ready advertising a plus 10 herbalism glove, along with plus five mining and skinning. To my dismay I was so caught up in the brilliant scheme I had read about, I didn't realize that it was impossible to put gatherer on the herbalist gloves; the ilvl of the gloves was too low. So gatherer plus herbalist gloves equals impossible. But I did find the rare and elusive enchant gloves advanced herbalism which does work on the herbalist gloves. But even after selling in trade with the enchant, even after enticing taurens with a massive plus 25 herb bonus with my gloves and their racial, I wasn't able to get over 150 gold for the set.

The post also mentions that the glove enchant gatherer is sellable for around 150 gold if there isn't any competition. On my server Eonar, gatherer sells for between 15 and 60 gold on average. So with that post the site went from being a trusted source in my opinion, to something I read and quickly research the posters info and reference it with other sites before I act on it. Of course I probably should have done that anyway : p

Thanks for the interesting post,

R.C.

Thanks R.C. for the response.  As I stated in yesterday's post, "Play smart and research your markets independant of what you read on gold blogs."  With tools like The Undermine Journal, we can double check references as well as compare various ideas within the most important factor: Our Own Server.  Some strategies will work on one server and will fail horribly on another.

WoW Auction House Tip: Otherworldly Bags

WoW Auction House Tip: Otherworldly Bag
Otherworldly Bag

Crafting profession bags is usually a profitable market to enter into on the WoW auction house and the Otherworldly Bag is no different.  The Otherworldly Bag is a 36 slot Enchanting Bag that is crafted by the Tailoring Profession and becomes available to leveling tailors at Tailoring skill level 480.  I sell them for around 400 gold each, but TUJ is showing that's on the lower end of what many other servers' WoW auction houses are seeing.

I originally skipped over crafting many of these on my main tailor.  She was leveling early in Cataclysm, so she was making the gathering profession bags as opposed to these, since the demand for gathering bags was much higher at the start of Cataclysm.  Recently I have leveled my secondary Tailor far enough to be able to craft Dreamcloth for easy skill ups and I made a handful of these Otherworldly Bags on the grind up.  As is already known, I don't believe in powerleveling just for speed purposes because it is usually a waste of gold.  I stick to a common commodity crafting approach, which the Otherworldly Bags fit right into.

The beauty of these bags is that they are a Cataclysm top end Enchanting bag and they take some old Wrath Enchanting materials to craft.  That's right!  These are a great way to unload some of those old Wrath Enchanting materials that you may have hidden in your guild bank.

An Otherworldly Bag requires:
  • 9 Bolts of Embersilk Cloth
  • 1 Dream Shard
  • 4 Greater Cosmic Essence
  • 8 Hypnotic Dust
So dust off some of those old Wrath materials and put them to good use:  sales on the WoW auction house.

Patch 4.2 WoW Embersilk Cloth Farming Spot

Solar Core Embersilk Farming
Farming Embersilk Cloth With The Shadow Wardens Daily Quests

While completing my daily quests for the Shadow Wardens, I stumbled upon an awesome location for farming the Cataclysm cloth tailoring material - Embersilk Cloth.  How awesome?  So many corpses I couldn't loot them all between respawns awesome!  Tell me now!  Where?  Where?

The Solar Core

This awesome Embersilk Cloth farming spot is located at the solar core within the Widow's Clutch in the Molten Front.  The solar core is the target of the Shadow Wardens daily quest Solar Core Destruction.  The solar core is located in the Northern area of the Widow's Clutch past the spiders and the rocky outcroppings holding the spiderweb cocoons.  It is easy to find the solar core.  Just look for the glowing orb surrounded by flame channeling Druids of the Flame (as seen in the above image).

Druids of the Flame

Our Embersilk Cloth farming targets are the Druids of The Flame that surround the solar core.  There are 4 Druids of the Flame respawn locations directly around the solar core.  These 4 flame channeling Druids of the Flame are packed close together and respawn rather quickly.  According to Wowhead, these Druids of the Flame at the Widow's Clutch have almost a 50% chance to drop 1-4 Embersilk Cloth when killed and looted.  Rogues are also able to pickpocket for Flame Scarred Junkboxes and Rogue's Draughts as these mobs are considered humanoids.  A near 50% drop rate is amazing on it's own, but the drops are stack sizes of 1-4.  A tailor farming here would be able to get even more cloth with the Cloth Scavenging bonus from the Tailoring Profession.

Solar Core Destruction

What makes this spot so awesome is not only the awesome drop rates and the quick respawn time, but the Solar Core Destruction quest itself.  All you have to do to complete this easy Shadowlands Daily quest is run past all of the druids surrounding the solar core and click on the solar core orb.  It takes just a few seconds to finish the action of destroying the core.  As soon as you blow up the solar core, you are instantly blasted into the air and you land on top of one of the rocky outcroppings in the Widow's Clutch.  This breaks combat with all of the Druids of the Flame that were chasing you on your way to the solar core.  You are free to then jump down and return to camp to turn in your Shadow Wards quest and collect your Marks of the World Tree.

Here's the awesome part.  Many players already know that they can just aggro any number of druids and run right up to the solar core, destroy it, and then get blasted to safety.  When farming for the Embersilk Cloth off of the Druids of the Flame, you can set up camp right near the solar core orb itself.  Then you can proceed to kill the 4 channeling Druids of the Flame.  As players on the Solar Core Destruction quest coming running up to you, they will have a train of Druids following them that you can quickly attack to get aggro.  So you have an ideal farming spot where there are 4 closely packed druids and druids wandering around the perimeter.  Combined with all of the free trains of Druid mobs coming at you from the other kiting players and you have an amazingly awesome spot for easy Embersilk Cloth farming.

Be sure to check out How To Maximize Your Beginning Molten Front Dailies and Getting The Most Volatiles Out of Druids of the Talon Daily Questing.

Anyone found any more new ways to farm the new daily quest hub content?

WoW Patch 4.2 Firelands Recipes Are BoE

WoW Patch 4.2 - Rage of The Firelands

WoW Patch 4.2 Firelands Recipes

Now that World of Warcraft Patch 4.2 is live, we know the origins of all of the new recipes introduced in this new WoW content expansion.  The new weapon plans and scope schematics are available from Damek Bloombeard and the new profession bag patterns are available from Ayla Shadowstorm.  Both of these vendors are located within the Molten Front.  The vendors are locked behind quest phasing and you must complete the new daily quests to start unlocking the vendors and gain access to those recipes.  These are the recipes that we were preparing our main and alts for Patch 4.2 to start racing to be the first to unlock the vendors and get access to the patterns.

The patterns and plans for the armor pieces are all available from the mobs within the new Patch 4.2 Firelands raid instance.  Currently trash mobs and bosses can drop the new epic patterns for the new epic craftable gear.  Hopefully this is as Blizzard intended and it won't be hotfixed to only allow the recipes to drop from bosses.  All of the new Firelands raid patterns are listed below.

Should You Buy These BoE Patterns?

I myself wouldn't buy these patterns off of the auction house unless I was a major raider and could accumulate enough Living Embers to be able to start producing the gear as soon as the recipe was purchased.  I would wait for the prices to come down as right now paying 20-50k gold for a pattern is going to take a while to earn enough profit to pay off the recipe cost.  While you are working on collecting the Living Embers, the prices will continue to fall.

Since these patterns and plans can be acquired from trash mobs within the Firelands, doing trash runs could be very profitable if you are lucky enough to win a roll for one of the epic gear patterns.  I would sell while the content is fresh and new and the prices are sky high.  You can probably sell for a high amount now and repurchase the same pattern later for far cheaper.

Ideal Alts Series | The Dungeon Farmer

Ideal Alts Series

Today is the first entry into the series on Ideal Alts here at Cold's Gold Factory.  The purpose of this series is to give you readers an idea for some of your alts to help tweek and tailor your gold making army.  I made my characters a long long time ago and I wish I would have thought them out more clearly.  So you readers get to benefit from my knowledge and my mistakes.

Everyone has a main character, some have a bank alt, but what are all of the others?  What role do they have?  Here's the first idea to get you thinking.  Let's start building some Ideal Alts for your own personal gold factory.

The Dungeon Farmer

Role:  This Ideal Alt only runs dungeons and heroic dungeons, not old dungeon farming for enchanting mats.  This alt is a master of getting the most out of current dungeon content.  The dungeon farmer is an ideal alt to have in your World of Warcraft character arsenal.  The dungeon farmer is designed to help make the most of running dungeons and turning those dungeon runs into profits.

Class:  Resto Druid - We want either a healer or a tank as the ideal dungeon farming character so they can take advantage of instant queues.  Being a healer or a tank also opens up the Call to Arms bonus Satchel of Exotic Mysteries.  We are going to kick the tank idea for dungeon speed running purposes.  Healer it is.  Tank won't mesh with all the other options that require being in the back of the pack of dungeon running characters.  Druid is the best choice because they tend to have the shortest downtime between pulls.  We are maximizing every aspect of this Ideal Alt the best we can.

Race:  Horde:  Any  / Alliance:  Worgen (For speed skinning)

Professions:  Tailoring and Skinning.  Why not enchanting?  Let someone else bring the enchanter.  If you are a low level dungeon runner farming enchanting materials thats cool, but this is a max level dungeon runner.  Every dungeon has humanoids and some also have skinnable mobs.  Having a tailor allows you to scavenge extra cloth off of humanoids after others have looted.  Having a skinner allows you to skin a lot of mobs within dungeons including some of the dungeon bosses, which drop great loot when skinned.

Both skinning and tailoring go hand in hand for a dungeon farming alt because they both require you to hang around after the fight waiting for others to loot.  This goes perfect with being a healer who already hangs out in the back of the party and being a druid minimizes the downtime between fights, so you have time to skin and loot your extra cloth.  And if you are a Worgen you get a speed bonus to your skinning!  Another bonus of being a tailor is that you will be eligible to roll on the BoP Chaos Orbs.  You can use those Chaos Orbs to craft high end gear or save them in hopes they become tradeable in a future WoW patch.  As a tailor you can be used outside the dungeons to craft netherweave bags, Dreamcloth, Spellthreads, Rich Purple Silk Shirts, etc.

So in my opinion, the absolute best combination for creating an Ideal Alt - Dungeon Farmer would be a Worgen Druid with Skinning and Tailoring.  Here's a quick review of the bonuses of this combination.

Dungeon Farming Ideal Alt

  • Worgen Druid
  • Tailor
  • Skinner
  • Free extra cloths via scavenging
  • Free hides, leathers, scraps, dragonscales, volatiles (from inside Bloated Sacs that skinners get), etc.
  • Worgen Skinning Speed Boost
  • Healer
  • Instant or Fast Queues
  • Call to Arms Eligible
  • Free pets and mounts, etc. from the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries
  • Chaos Orb eligible
  • Can sell spellthreads and high end tailoring items
  • Netherweave bag seller
  • Dreamcloth cooldowns
  • Perfect!
Anyone have a better combination for farming dungeons?
Anyone already have a dungeon running Worgen Druid Tailor Skinner?

Dreamcloth Cooldown Removal in Patch 4.2

Dreamcloth Cooldown Removed?

Despite what you may have seen or heard, at this point there is no data to reflect that the Dreamcloth cooldown will actually be removed in Patch 4.2.  The current Patch 4.2 PTR build 14117 data-mined information mentions Dreamcloth cooldowns.  On MMO-Champion it states that each version of Dreamcloth "possibly doesn't have a cooldown anymore, but cooldowns look super sketchy in the game files in the first place so be careful."

I wouldn't worry too hard or start planning too far ahead on this speculation.  Remember PTR build data-mined information isn't always the most accurate.  When the raw data mined Patch notes where originally posted, they showed that the 7 second cooldown on Dreamcloth was being removed.  Some people starting tweeting about the week long cooldown being removed, which was an inaccurate deduction.  The comment section on the post also showed that some more people were misreading the information.  All that was showing to be removed was the 7 second cooldown.  So you wouldn't have to wait 7 seconds between crafting each version of the Dreamcloth back to back.  Not really a game changer.  The Dreamcloth should still be restricted by the once per 7 days cooldown, unless something changes further.

On a similar note:  Patch 4.2 should also bring us jewelcrafter cut gems stacking.  It's about time.

Embersilk Farming In Deepholme In Cataclysm

Embersilk Cloth Farming in Deepholme

Leveling My Enchanter / Tailor

I am making a push to level 84 on my tailor who is also my enchanter.  Right now she stands at character level 83.75 and I soon will be able to visit the Twilight Highlands vendors for both Enchanting and Tailoring.  There will be a wave of sales in the Enchanting market as players will be replacing gear with the release of new content.  I need to hit level 84 before Patch 4.1.

Major patches always bring in a larger number of players and sales across many markets will peak during at least the first week.  So this is why I have been pushing hard for level 84.  I want to take advantage of the gear replacement, re-enchanting, re-gemming craze to the fullest.  By getting my enchanter to the Level 84 where she can buy the high end patterns, prior to the Patch 4.1, is a must in order to accomplish this.

In Southwestern Deepholme is a nice spot to grind and farm Embersilk Cloth.  There is a great battle taking place  between the dwarves and troggs.  These Earthen Chapions and War Constructs will fight on your side attacking the enemy Stone Trogg Beserkers and Stone Trogg Geomancers.  You can get a lot of experience, if you come here while leveling at level 82, once Deepholme unlocks.  Since the dwarfs will acts as tanks, this location is very nice for herding and farming the mobs together and finishing them off with AoE spell damage.  you can even run around and loot all of the Embersilk Cloth during the battle.

So I have been using my warlock tailor and have been gathering hefty amounts of Embersilk Cloth to also level with tailoring skill at the same time.  Instead of just mindlessly following the quests for gear that will be replaced from anything that drops in a dungeon, I have been farming the hell out of these Stone Troggs all up and down the SW perimeter of Deepholme.  Bolting up what I collect, looting, spamming DoTs on mobs everywhere, while continuing to be in combat.    The more damage you do to these mobs, the more experience you will earn for the kills.  As long as you do some damage, you will be able to loot them.  It really is a great spot to level and farm Embersilk Cloth at the same time.  And it is also a great spot to pickpocket as well.  Bring along a potion of treasure finding for a nice bonus.

Runecloth Surplus Solution

Are You Overloaded On Runecloth?

Some of us stocked up a bunch of Runecloth prior to The Shattering in hopes of selling the stacks of Runecloth for reputation turn ins to new goblins and worgens.  Then Blizzard throws us a curveball and creates championing tabards for all of the player races.  Now we are stuck with a bunch of runecloth in our banks.  This was something that Wes had talked about on the Auction House Junkies podcast as well.  Maybe you are in the same boat as we are?

How To Move Your Runecloth

The market for selling unbolted stacks of Runecloth hasn't been favorable to flip these for a profit.  You may have success selling off your Runecloth as Bolts of Runecloth, but I would take a different approach.

The most profitable way to utilize runecloth on most servers would be to follow these easy steps.

  1. Have your tailor bolt it up into Bolts of Runecloth.
  2. Buy up a bunch of Runethread.
  3. Craft Runecloth Headbands.
  4. Send them to your Enchanter. (Bonus if you are an Enchanter / Tailor)
  5. Disenchant all of the Runecloth Headbands.
  6. Either sell your raw enchanting materials
  7. or Use them in BoA and Twink Enchanting scrolls for sale on the Auction House.

Why is this the most profitable alternative?  Because most servers are seeing a spike in demand due to a low volume of Vanilla enchanting materials (as I previously revealed), especially Illusion Dust, Greater Eternal Essences, and Large Brilliant Shards.  Runecloth Headbands will only disenchant into these 3 great materials to sell on the auction house.

6 Bolts of Runecloth and 2 Runethread combine to create 1 Runecloth Headband.

Runecloth Headband Disenchant Table

  1. 1-2 Illusion Dust - 74%
  2. 1-2 Greater Eternal Essence - 23%
  3. 1 Large Brilliant Shard - 3%
Depending on the price of stacks of Runecloth on your server and the going rate for these Vanilla enchanting materials, this may be a viable profit option to invest in.  Like the obsidium shuffle, this is a bit labor intensive, but can be eased if you are an Enchanter / Tailor.

Clearing Out Netherweave Cloth Reserves

Netherweave Bag Sales Stalled?

Did you stock up on a ton of netherweave cloth hoping to cash in on selling Netherweave Bags in new players and alts in Cataclysm?  Has competition been fierce and your having a hard time moving your Netherweave Bags?  Have players become smarter and realized that Mooncloth Bags and Traveler's Backpacks are a much more efficient purchase?  Maybe the price didn't hit a mark you wanted to sell at.  You may be sitting on a ton of Netherweave Cloth or pre-crafted Netherweave Bolts.  Is there another way to move some of this cloth?

Tailoring To Disenchant

Crafting tailoring items with the sole purpose of disenchanting may be another option for you to move some of that extra Netherweave Cloth or Bolts.  Those enchanting materials can also be used to craft some nice scroll enchants for selling on the auction house.  The 2 best items to craft with netherweave and then disenchant are Netherweave Bracers and Netherweave Pants.  The bracers take 1 runethread and 3 Netherweave Bolts while the pants required 1 runethread and 6 bolts.  Craft the bracers if you need more Arcane Dust and the pants if you need more Greater Planar Essense.

Depending on the prices on your server's market, you may be able to make more profit from your Netherweave from selling the disenchanted materials over selling the Netherweave Bags.

Enchanting Scrolls

There are 4 notable twink and BoA enchants that utilize these disenchanted materials and are worth selling.
  • Gloves: Superior Agility
  • Cloak:  Stealth Check out Mageshadow's post on The Best BoA Enchant For Cloaks.
  • Cloak:  Greater Nature Resistance
  • Cloak:  Greater Fire Resistance
You also can try selling any of the other enchants that require level 35 items, like Mongoose as some other ways to unload these materials.

New Race & Class Combos, Shadow Hoods and The Shattering Event

The Shattering Event Coming Soon
The Shattering Event will be upon us quicker than you might think.  The elementals have already started to invade the cities of Azeroth.  The World of Warcraft, as we know it, will be changed forever.  Twinks have already begun to crop up as bored players decide to make a twink.  One of the biggest changes coming to characters is the addition of new race and class combinations.

New Race and Class Combos
These new race and class combos in WoW will be able to be created once The Shattering patch goes live.  This means as soon as The Shattering goes live, some players will be rolling up their new alt, their new main, or their new twink.  Here are the new race / class combos.

Horde

  1. Orc Mage
  2. Undead Hunter
  3. Tauren Priest
  4. Tauren Paladin
  5. Troll Druid
  6. Bloodelf Warrior
Alliance
  1. Human Hunter
  2. Dwarf Mage
  3. Dwarf Shaman
  4. Night Elf Mage
  5. Gnome Priest
I expect to see Troll Druids and Tauren Paladins as the most popular on the horde side.  Looking at the new combos allowed the Alliance, 4 out of the 5 are caster classes.  Can you think of any great leveling and PvP head slot items that these characters may want?

Shadow Hoods
One of the hardest to get gear slots in the early levels are head pieces, hoods, helms, etc.  Some comments have people stating that these are already starting to sell well.  The demand will rise even higher come The Shattering.  The alliance side will be particularly profitable as they are getting a lot more caster race and class combos.  Shadow Hoods are also excellent choices for twinks as they currently have a boat load of stamina after the recent stat changes.  The pattern for Shadow Hood is a rare drop so keep an eye out for it on the auction house.

Profiting Off Shadow Hoods
The problem with crafting Shadow Hoods is that they take a Shadow Oil per hood.  Each shadow oil requires 4 Fadeleaf and 4 Grave Moss.  To be efficient making these requires the use of a tailor and an alchemist, so this may discourage some players who are not into multi-profession crafting.  This will be another feasible market of vanilla items much like Barbaric Bracers, Toughened Leather Gloves, Spidersilk Boots, Deviate Scale Belts, Robes of Arcana and other Vanilla craftables that continue to sell.

So be prepared and start snatching up Fadeleaf, Grave Moss, and Shadow Oils to turn into nicely profitable Shadow Hoods for twinks and levelers.  Myabe you have been looking for a use for all the extra Grave Moss you found while farming herbs and chests in Scarlet Monastery during the Headless Horseman instant queues. Silk is usually dirt cheap on the Horde side, so importing silk from the other faction could help bring your material costs down on the Alliance side.  Let me know how it goes or if you have been selling these already on your server.

Winter Veil Clothing Sets - Start Selling Now

Discounted Price For Early Buyers
Last month I gave the heads-up to start stockpiling the 6 Items to Get Rich During Winter Veil.  Hopefully you have already accumulated a hefty supply.  Winter Veil is around a month away.  There is no need to wait until the holiday starts to start selling your Winter Veil Clothing.  With just a couple weeks until December and the Winter Veil holiday in World of Warcraft, start unloading a few of the sets on the auction house and in trade chat.  Last year I used a macro in trade chat with my prices and the action statement "Get yours now before the prices go up next month!"  This had me selling a few sets a day for a couple weeks prior to the holiday.  Funny thing was the "early discounted price" ended up being more than I was able to sell them on the auction house last year once competition ensued.

Fashionable Winter Veil Garb
The Green Winter Clothes or  Red Winter Clothes and Winter Boots are needed to Complete the Winter Garb set for the Achievement.  The Red or Green Hat is also required, but cannot be farmed until the holiday event goes live.  By selling these items ahead of time, you are helping those players that are willing to spend cash to save time.  Obviously this only works for tailors that are over a year old and already have the patterns to craft these.  If you are a new tailor, you will have to wait until Winter Veil in December.

Bank Alts Buy Winter Clothing Too
Not only achievement seekers purchase the Winter Veil clothing.  A lot of players like to purchase these for their bank alts or for dancing half naked on the mail boxes.  Understand that these will sell now and for a nice price.  I recommend testing prices on your server, but a good price set to start at is:

  1. Your Faction Color Clothes - 120-125g
  2. Their Faction Color Clothes - 150-200g
  3. Winter Boots - 25-35g

Dress shoes (25g)and green holiday shirts (10g) also sell during these times as well.  Again, you must be an older tailor to already have the pattern for the green holiday shirts.

Abyssal Bag And The Knights Of The Ebon Blade

Duchess Mynx

Abyssal Bag
Since Patch 4.0.1, Abyssal Bag is now a BoE 22 slot bag usable by anyone.  The abyssal bag was a warlock only bag that held soul shards.  Since the 4.0.1 patch, they are now a cheaper to craft version of the glacial bag and the abyssal bag doesn't have a cooldown.

The glacial bag requires 4 ebonweave, 4 moonshroud  and 1 eternium thread.
The abyssal bag requires only 4 ebonweave, 2 spellweave, and 1 eternium thread.

Learning The Abyssal Bag Pattern
The tailoring pattern requires revered standing with the Ebon Blade faction in Icecrown and is available from Duchess Mynx, the Ebon Blade quartermaster in The Shadow Vault.  What if your tailor isn't your main and doesn't have the required reputation to purchase the pattern?  Well the Ebon Blade Commendation Badges are only 16 Justice points each and award 520 reputation.  So you may be able to top off that reputation with badges in order to learn the new version of the abyssal bag.

Netherweave Bags vs Faction Satchels in Cataclysm

Stormwind Quartermaster

Tailoring Warning
In case you missed it, last week over at Just My Two Copper, Miss Mediocre guest posted an excellent article entitled Cataclysm Profession Breakdown.  She has been researching within Cata Beta and has an excellent report on various things profession related.  Within the content of her tailoring section, she divulges an interesting addition on the Beta.  This little addition has stirred up quite the comments. (Disclaimer:  Remember not everything on Beta actually makes the cut, but this one probably will.)  Let me quote from her article.
"On the topic of bags, anyone expecting to sell lots of Netherweave bags come Cataclysm may be disappointed! New city quartermasters are found near the flight masters in all of the major cities and sell 16 slot satchels for only 1g80s if you are revered. The bags are "unique" so you can only have one of each, but that is still 5 satchels if you are revered with all of your faction's races (which happens pretty quick these days just by questing). I'm sure Netherweave bags will still sell, but I'm wondering if perhaps not as well, once players discover the quartermasters."
-Miss Mediocre
Faction Satchels
Here is an example of the "Faction Satchels" as I'm calling them:  Troll Faction Satchel.  As a correction to her original calculation, there are actually 6 satchels for each side, as Gilneas and Bilgewater are offering satchels as well.  So each character can get 6 dirt cheap 16 slot bags once revered with each city.  This is an interesting change, but should we as tailors be worried?  I myself have about 6 guild bank tabs filled with Netherweave Bolts just waiting to start the tailoring sweatshop into motion as I plan to profit heavily on bags come Cataclysm time.

Effects On Bag Sales
So will these newly introduced bags curb your ability to sell the endless amounts of Netherweave Bags?  Short answer:  I doubt it will affect sales much, if at all.  Why not?  Who are we targetting to buy all of our bags?  New characters are the primary targets.  New characters wanting to increase their bag space will want that increased carrying capacity long before they reach revered with a single faction much less all of them.  I can see those cheap satchels selling to people expanding their bank bag slots later on, thus lowering sales to those customers further into the expansion.  At the expansion's start though, there will be a ton of new characters looking for bags ASAP.  Old players will be rolling new characters too and these new satchels are bound to the character that buys them, so no benefit of being an older player in terms of helping out your new characters.  We already have bags that are even better than any 16slot BoA bag that could be implemented, so I doubt we will see any BoA bags created.  Read about how Mooncloth Bags and Traveler's Backpacks are better options.  Another key to remember is that Goblins and Worgens will be included in the actual Cataclysm expansion.  The shattering event will occur in a patch added prior to Cataclysm and blue posts have stated that the new racial/class combos will be released with the shattering patch.  So there will be some sales of netherweave bags picking up once that patch allows troll druids, human hunters, etc.  So all in all, I wouldn't worry one bit about netherweave bag sales.

Why Mooncloth Bags and Traveler's Backpacks Are Better Than Netherweave Bags

The Industry Standard
Anyone who makes a money with the tailoring profession probably has delved into the Netherweave Bag market.  These trustworthy sellers do sell in high volumes, are not expensive to craft, provide a decent return on investment, and will never run you into overstock issues.  They are the preferred choice of most players who are increasing the bag space of alts or stocking up extra bank tabs.  When you compare your options, these are not the smartest purchase for leveling alts.

Better Choices For Alts
Both  Traveler's Backpack and Mooncloth Bag are better options for alternate characters (alts).  The biggest disadvantage of using Netherweave Bags is that they Bind-On-Equip.  So once the new alt adds them to his bank or equips them into his / her bag slots, they become bound to that single character.  If this alt later purchases better bags for even more space, these are often vendored for a fraction of the original cost, since they cannot be used on any other characters.  Neither the Traveler's Backpack or the Mooncloth Bags are bound upon use.  They have the same 16 slot space allowance, but allow the cost efficient player to utilize them on multiple characters.  If they get replaced by larger bags, the option still exists of sending them to another alt for use witout having to purchase more bags for the new alt.  The other option that exists is a quick trip to the auction house for resale.  Think of these bags more like you are renting them, instead of buying them outright, just to be vendored after they are outgrown.

How Are They Obtained?
Mooncloth Bags are crafted by tailorings that have learned the Pattern: Mooncloth Bag.  Both Traveler's Backpacks and the pattern for the Mooncloth Bags are rare vanilla world drops.  Be sure to grab this pattern, if you find it posted for a good price on the auction house.  Add Felcloth to your snatch list.  Nowadays you can find it pretty cheap as most people just dump it to the auction house due to its limited usage in useful items these days.  Some buyers are aware of the benefits of using these 2 bags instead of the standard Netherweave Bags.  I often sells Mooncloth Bags and Traveler's Backpacks for 16-25g each, which is much higher than the usual sale price of the Netherweave Bags.  Watch for Traveler's Backpacks that are underpriced and snatch them up to flip for a profit.

6 Materials To Stockpile Now To Get Rich At Christmas Time

Last week I gave you plenty of notice on stocking up on Small Eggs for profiting off of their sale in the use of cookies and quests during the Winter Veil holiday.

Winter Veil Clothing
Winter Veil is also the time for leatherworkers and tailors to get rich, as well as those supplying the materials they will be using to make endless gold. The Green Winter Clothes, Red Winter Clothes, and Winter Boots are needed to Complete the Winter Garb set for the Achievement. Crafting the boots can easily earn you minimum 25g each and the clothes sell anywhere from 15g to 50g with the opposing factions color reaching 150-200g each. You must visit the opposing capital city and purchase the pattern, which can result in many deaths and corpse runs, but the money you will make will be worth it.

What To Start Stockpiling
The main items that should be snatched cheaply and saved until the holiday starts are:

Wool Cloth
Bolt of Wool
Runecloth
Bolt of Runecloth
Copper Bar
Rugged Leather

You will not be able to find these on the auction house during the first week of Winter Veil.

Last year I took all my wool cloth and made bolts, then posted them for 7g per bolt. I could not keep them in stock. It takes only 3 wool cloth to make a bolt of wool cloth, so you can see how much money that alone made me. That was just using the wool I had left in my bank. This year I will be much better stocked and ready to sell them. The other tailors don't mind paying 7g for a bolt, when they are selling their Winter Clothing for over 100g! Just figure out what the boots and clothes are selling for, make some to post, then sell your mats for a huge profit too. The mailbox will continue to fill up with auction house earnings.

Vanilla Craftables That Continue To Sell

Don't forget about your old Vanilla WoW patterns. There are still some prime craftables that continue to sell very well. Most of the materials required area easily farmable or easily purchased for minimal cost off newer players or the auction house. With the rise in playable alts, twinks, and Xmas Noobs these items are very viable sources of income. Just keep an eye on the materials needed like: crusader's orb, large fang, spider's silk, etc.

Mechanical Squirrel Box - The free Holiday pets have kick started the pet collecting industry for many new players. Currently selling at 12-15g each. If you are levelling engineering make these until they go grey.

Barbaric Bracers - Awesome wrists for leveling and 29 bracket twinks. The materials required are a joke and I continue to sell out for 115-120g each, unenchanted!

Scroll: Enchant Weapon: Fiery - My most popular heirloom enchant. Selling for 60-65g each 4-5 a night sell out. Mats are costing no more than 25g too.

Scroll: Enchant Weapon: Crusader - Second most popular seller. Sells for 120-150g each.

Spidersilk Boots - Great lvl 19 caster boots. Snatch those Spidersilks up. New players will post em for way too low because they don't know the real value of them. Selling these for around 60g.

Strong Troll's Blood Elixir - Required for popular quest chain. I sell these for 12g each.

If you have the Formula for +30 spellpower to weapon you should be making a killing as hardly no one these days has that pattern and the demand is huge for it on heirloom caster weapons, which is a big reason I still take my enchanter on Molten Core runs.
