20 Days of Gold Making (Day 8) - Revisiting Goals

"Thinking Back To Day 2, Did You Reach Your Goal?  Did You Set A New Goal?"

Well, in the day 2 post I talked about my early goals of getting each of the various mounts and the required riding skills in order.  As I earned a regular mount, my next goal was to get the epic mount, then a flying mount, then the epic flyer.  As I completed each of the smaller goals, I set myself the goal of getting the next mount in the advancement order of ground and flying mounts. 

Once I had all of the mounts, my next major goal was to get gold capped, which I eventually reached during Wrath of the Lich King, when I had more play time available to dedicate to constant WoW gold making.

Once I hit the gold cap, I continued to make more gold, but I haven't set a new goal for myself.  Do I need more than a million gold?  Probably never, so I don't see much point in making more gold just to be making gold.  Obviously, not having a new goal to push towards has slowed my gold making, but I'm fine with that.

I already beat the game afterall.  ;)

MFC Barking In Mists Of Pandaria

Mysterious Fortune Cards & Barking MFCs in MoP

Mysterious Fortune Cards continue to be a strong seller on my server in World of Warcraft.  With my recent increased work hours (covering co-workers vacations), I have been very limited in overall game time as well as time that I am able to spend working markets in the WoW auction houses.  While I have been making hefty profits flipping my stockpiles of blue leveling and twink gear, I am seeing some amazing profits within my main market, the Mysterious Fortune Cards market.  Earlier this year, I wrote about how Mysterious Fortune Cards will never die.  Not only was I right, but sales have started to become way more profitable than even I expected. 

The MFCs that I created prior to Mists of Pandaria where being undercut into oblivion during the end of expansion lull.  Nowadays, those same Mysterious Fortune Cards that cost me less than 4 gold to make are now selling for 25 gold each and sometime faster than I can relist them.  Last night I made about 2,000 gold in 15 minutes of barking.  It's so easy, even a kobold could do it!  Well, dumbass Kobold would probably crash the market to 5 gold each again.

Why are my MFCs performing so well? 

There are a few key factors in the rise in price and the influx of more sales.

• Competition has become nearly non-existant - As new expansions are released many auctioneers abandon old markets looking for the greener grass of the most up to date markets.  A wise goblin understands that old markets can be just as, if not more, lucrative than during previous expansions.

• The ink trader fiasco - The Inscription Ink traders were finally updated today to accepting Ink of the Seas as the exchange currency for new Inks.  The extra 7 or so weeks of Blackfallow Ink trading has helped to dry up the supplies of Blackfallow Ink, which is the primary material for MFC crafting.

• New players  - Every expansion launch brings new players into WoW and helps bring old players back to the game.  These fresh faces may be hearing about MFCs for the first time and will be more willing to try a shot at winning the big fortunes. 

• Fresh MFC Barks - I've been working on some brand new barks for Mists of Pandaria.  Barking the same thing over and over can get very stale very fast.  It's always best to keep your MFC barks up to date and always evolving.  Fresh is best!

Use Trade Chat To Make Gold In WoW

Make Gold With Trade Chat Watching

The trade chat (/2) channel in World of Warcraft was designed for players to have a place to hawk their wares.  Trade chat is also where you can seek goods or services in addition to the WoW auction house option.  Trade chat has degraded into a lot of garbage chit chat on most servers ranging from  spam to the typical Chuck Norris jokes, made famous in the now defunct Barrens Chat.  Trade chat is so bad sometimes that many WoW players ignore it altogether or have a blind eye for most trade chat messages.  If you are ignoring your WoW server's trade chat channel, then you are missing out on some nice and quick ways to make extra gold in WoW.

When dealing with trade chat bartering you will occasionally run into a player that knows his markets and his pricing, with a good intellegent expectation for the potential deal.  Oftens times though, you are going to be dealing with ignorant and uninformed players, or players that are desperate for specific items.  Sometimes you will see players searching for items that are available on the auction house already.  Sometimes they don't even understand how to search the auction house.  Other times, the item they are looking for is unavailable on the auction house, so they turn to trade chat to look for the item.  These are great times to take advantage of another players demand or desire for a specific item. 

Many of these deals I have found from trade chat clients end up being quite profitable because:

• The buyer is willing to pay more to be finished and done with whatever task, quest, or goal they have.
• The buyer is ignorant of the true value of the item.
• The buyer is ignorant of another option for indirectly getting the same item from the auction house.
• The buyer is unable to create the item themself.

Here are a few examples of some of the recent profitable deals I have worked from the WoW trade chat.  Remember these deals get even sweeter when you can avoid the auction house fees completely.

1. Got a 20 gold tip for Sundering 1 Primal Fire into 10 Motes of Fire.
2. Sold a buyer 2 Felsteel Bars for 150 gold.
3. Sold a quest completer 1 Khorium Power Core and 1 Adamantite Frame for 400 gold.
4. Sold 5 stacks of Cobalt Bars for 650 gold, when market value was 100 gold per stack.

Why Make Gold In WoW?

Yesterday I gave you the Top 10 Reasons It Sucks To Be A WoW Gold Maker, but there are plenty of good things to outweigh the negatives.  Making gold in WoW can be a lot of fun, but can also be a headache at times.  Still though, as WoW gold makers, we continue to push for that bigger bankroll.  We continue to look for new ways to make gold.  Why?  Because that's what greedy goblins do.  We enjoy lining our banks with WoW gold.  Here are 10 more reasons for making gold in the World of Warcraft.

1. You can't get the most out of a GDKP run if you are broke.
2. You can gear out, max the professions, and entirely support all 10 characters on your account.
3. You can use your gold to bully other players around when they step into your market.
4. Opening hate mail is so much fun.
5. It feels nice to line your pocket with the gold of the ignorant, lazy, and clueless WoW players.
6. Mount Collector?  Companion Pet Junkie?  Recipe Hunter?  Hell, as a WoW gold maker you can collect it all.
7. While others are out grinding for gear upgrades, you can just buy yourself the gear to get into the raid or heroic instances with the correct item level.  Just ask Wes of Auction House Junkies.
8. Complete financial freedom to buy whatever you want whenever you want it.
9. You can actually afford the expensive items required to make a competitive twink character.
10. For the show-offs and the vain, there are plenty of gold sinks to let everyone else know what you've blown your gold on.

10 Reasons It Sucks To Be A WoW Gold Maker

Being able to support all of your characters by your own financial success is a great feeling within World of Warcraft.  Being able to afford anything is excellent, but being a gold maker isn't always a positive thing.  I present to you today the top 10 reasons it sucks to be a gold maker.

1. If your friends / guild members know you are rich, they will ask you for loans, free gold, or pricing discounts.  Hey were are friends right?  Sorry.  Business is business.
2. You get home from work, log into WoW, and go right back to working in game.  Um, isn't this game supposed to be fun?  I'm paying Blizzard to do more work in my free time.  Fail!
3. If I shuffle another stack of Obsidium Ore, Saronite Ore, Elementium Ore or Pyrite Ore I will go crazy!  Every day I'm shufflin'!
4. Dealing with idiots in the trade channel who believe that /2 trade is not for advertising your crafted goods.  Get real!  It's the damn Trade Channel after all.
5. You often miss out on entire content patches before they are nerfed into the ground.
6. The life of a pure gold maker is a solitary one.  Raiding?  What's that?  PvP?  Huh?
7. Size does matter!  Stacking size that is. Bigger is always better, but you will never be satisfied.
8. There is always someone with more free time than you that will undercut your every move.
9. Being in major cities with auction houses most of your play time, leads to overexposure to the vile wretchedness that is the trade chat channel. Anal this, Chuck Norris that.
10. You can't be dancing nekkid on top of the WoW mail boxes, if you are always stuck in the auction house.
