My Plan To Make Gold In Patch 4.3

Did You Get Caught With Your Pants On The Ground?

World of Warcraft Patch 4.3 Is Here!
(Screw You Blizzard)

Today is the big day that we have been waiting for as it is Patch 4.3 day in World of Warcraft.  The servers are already up and I am stuck at work still, but I do have my trusty iPhone and the Remote Auction House application working overtime.  Many of us got caught unprepared and are lookin' like fools with our pants on the ground.  I did not expect Patch 4.3 until next week, but Blizzard pulled a fast one on us and dropped the patch into World of Warcraft today, a full week ahead of the anticipated date.  No doubt, the patch is coming early so we can experience the new Darkmoon Faire Island next week, instead of having one more of the old version of the Darkmoon Faire.  Now I am over-stocked on a ton on Dense Grinding Stones for my Arcanite Rod crafting market.  Lol!

Steals and Deals Post Patch 4.3

I was fortunate enough to see some rock bottom prices all weekend long on things like Savage Leather (below 50 gold for once!), Pyrite Ore (39 gold stacks!) Elementium Ore (24 gold stacks!), Pre-cut Rare Red Gems (around 100g each) to add to my Patch 4.3 Stockpile and was lucky enough to snag a nice chunk of pre-cut Inferno Rubies from trade chat the day before.  I have been pretty chatty on Twitter lately (now that I'm single - lol) and have been using the new #goblinism hashtag to discuss steals and deals.  If you are not on twitter, please sign up and come join in on the fun, nonsense, sillyness, and idea sharing that is the WoW twitter community.  Find me @SSmith0911 on twitter and say hey.  Feel free to use my #goblinism hashtag to discuss your own steals, deals, and goblinish wisdom for others to admire and learn from.

Pants On The Ground
I had originally expected the WoW Patch 4.3 next week and had planned to finish getting ready all week long.  I had a lot to do to be fully prepared and was going to slowly and methodically get every crafter and every auctioneer ready for the big day.  I had just bought tons of Ores and tons of leathers as just 2 of the many areas I needed to devote some major attention to.  Then I bought 600+ more stacks of cheap ore when the news came out.  Patch 4.3 was coming today!  I had a day and a half to get ready.  I prospected until my fingers were near bleeding.  I converted Savage Leathers into Heavy Savage Leathers.  I crafted ahead what I knew was going to sell, things like Ebonsteel Belt Buckles, Bags, Rods, Mysterious Fortune Cards, Leg Armors (Tailoring and Leatherworking), amongst many other items.  I did as much as I could to get ready for Patch 4.3.  I didnt have enough time to do everything I wanted, but I felt ready enough to post enough today.  I will continue to craft the items that were unable to be crafted ahead of time (PvP gear), while maintaining my current auctions.
Patch Day Plan Of Attack
I've been furiously monitoring the WoW auction house since the servers came up early today.  The Remote Auction House application for iPhone has already helped me make some serious gold in WoW that I wouldn't have made without it.  Once I am off of work, I have a limited amount of time (can't call in sick tommorrow or I would) to make gold in the auction house.  Since my time is limited, I must have a plan of attack.  Hopefully, I will jog your memory of a task you need to do or give you a new idea.  Good luck tommorrow to all my Brit readers who get the Patch a day after us here in the US.  Here is my Patch 4.3 plan of attack.

  1. Download Patch and Install as needed.  I left the patch screen up when I left for work in hopes that the patch is already downloaded when I return home from work. (Fingers crossed.)
  2. Scribe - Learn the new Glyph of Shadow from Minor Inscription Research and post.
  3. Bark Mysterious Fortune Cards.
  4. Make new PvP Relics and post.
  5. Post Lion's Ink and Moonglow Ink for the informed, Snowfall Ink for the ignorant, all at high prices.
  6. Post normal glyphs with TSM.
  7. Leatherworker - Maintain Leg Armors and craft new PvP gear.
  8. Bark Mysterious Fortune Cards.
  9. Blacksmith - Maintain Ebonsteel Belt Buckles market and Blacksmithing Rods.
  10. Craft Plate and Mail PvP gear and sell on the auction house.
  11. Tailor / Enchanter - Post tons of Enchants for all the gear upgrades.
  12. Bark Mysterious Fortune Cards.
  13. Craft and Post PvP Cloth Gear.
  14. Learn Maelstrom Shatter and check prices of Shards versus Crystals.
  15. Craft More Luxurious Silk Gem Bags (selling these for 3.5k).
  16. Check prices of the newly tradeable Chaos Orbs.
  17. Post all pre-crafted Netherweave Bags.
  18. Engineer - Maintain Scope Market and Pets Markets.
  19. Bark Mysterious Fortune Cards.
  20. Jewelcrafter - Cut and post most profitable gems and meta-gems.
  21. Post all the Nightmare's Tears I have been buying up and flipping for double profits.
  22. Buy Epic Gems cuts from the JC vendor.
  23. Craft and Post new PvP Jewelry.
  24. Check for underpriced BoE Sinister Squashlings and other holiday pets to snatch.
  25. Typical business markets as usual.
  26. Bounce around and check for undercuts, emerging markets, and price spiking trends.
  27. Laugh at people wasting time and gold on Transmogrification.
Damn I have a lot to do!  Good thing, I'm off in 15 minutes and headed out the door for more Patch 4.3 goodness!  Good luck!

Patch 4.3 Cata Epic Gem JC Recipes & Tome Of Burning Jewels

WoW Patch 4.3 - Tome Of Burning Jewels (525 JC)

Shout Outs to The Godmother over at ALT:ernative who broke the news on the Jewelcrafting recipes and MSherretz on Twitter, recent Auction House Junkies guest on Episode 16, who tipped us off over Twitter of the news.

Patch 4.3 Epic Gem JC Recipes From Vendor

It's going to cost 5 Illustrious Jewelcrafter's Tokens for each Epic Gem recipe cut, per the PTR.  A second option costs only 4 Illustrious Tokens, The Tome Of Burning Jewels, but the recipe it awards is chosen at random.  You get the option of spending 5 JC tokens for the new epic gem cut of your choice, or pay only 4 Illustrious Jewelcrafter's Tokens for a spin on the wheel of random recipe selection.  Um, no thanks.

Should I Buy Epic Gem Cuts For 5 Or Tome Of Burning Jewels For 4?

As a Jewelcrafter looking to make gold in WoW, you will be much better off by spending the 5 Illustrious Jewelcrafter's Tokens on the top earning Epic Gem cuts for your server.  This will help ensure that you are not wasting your Illustrious Jewelcrafter's Tokens on Epic Gem recipe cuts with weak gold earning potential.  Once you have a solid arsenal of profitable Epic Gem cuts that are in high demand, then you can try the more risky option of going for random Epic Gem JC Recipes.  Be careful though, do you really want to risk 4 JC Tokens on a chance to get a +Hit/+Expertise Epic Gem or another garbage green epic gem cut?  Just pay the 1 extra Token and pick the Epic Gem pattern that you want.  Forget the risk, take the smart approach and buy your patterns wisely.

Do you have a bunch of JC Tokens saved up or did you start to buy more recipes thinking that your JC tokens would become useless?  I have 60 saved up at the moment, so that's an easy 12 patterns to get me started once WoW Patch 4.3 drops.

Patch 4.3 Epic Gems From Alchemist Transmutes & Cut By Jewelcrafters

Patch 4.3 News on Epic Gems

Hooray!  More news released on Epic Gems in Patch 4.3  We now have data-mined information from the Public Test Realm (PTR) for Patch 4.3.  Check out the complete coverage of Patch 4.3 items, maps, gems, recipes and more over at Wowhead.

Disclaimer:  PTR data-mined information is subject to change

Epic Gems Will Be Crafted By Alchemists

Although Pyrite Ore will not provide Epic Gems from Prospecting, Epic Gems will be able to be crafted by using Alchemy Transmutes.  This is good news as raid drops will not be the sole source of Epic Gems in WoW Patch 4.3.  Alchemists will be able to get 6 new recipes in Patch 4.3 and those recipes will be for Transmuting the Epic Gems.  The current data-mined Alchemy recipes do not show what materials will be required for the Epic Gem transmutes, but at least we know raid bosses will not be the only source of Epic Gems.  I'm going to assume that the Alchemy Transmutes will share the cooldown with all the current Alchemy Transmutations.  And you can bet that the Epic Gems transmutes will require multiples of Cataclysm Herbs and Cataclysm Rare Gems.

Epic Gems and Their Transmutes

Red Epic Gems:  Queen's Garnet  -  Transmute: Queen's Garnet
Blue Epic Gems:  Deepholme Iolite  -  Transmute: Deepholme Iolite
Yellow Epic Gems:  Lightstone  -  Transmute: Lightstone
Purple Epic Gems:  Shadow Spinel  -  Transmute: Shadow Spinel
Green Epic Gems:  Elven Peridot  -  Transmute: Elven Peridot
Orange Epic Gems:  Lava Coral  -  Transmute: Lava Coral
Note:  No Prismatic Gem Found Yet

Epic Gems Will Be Cut By Jewelcrafters

Jewelcrafters will again be able to cut raw Epic Gems into their cut versions, which is great news for those of us that make a lot of gold with our Jewelcrafters.  There doesn't appear to be a new source of currency, so we can assume that the current JC Daily tokens will be required to purchase the new Epic Gem Recipes or a new item that awards Epic Gem Recipes.

Tome Of Burning Jewels

There is an item listed in the data-mined information called the Tome Of Burning Jewels.  The Tome Of Burning Jewels is a Bind-On-Pickup item that could be a raid boss drop, or a vendor purchased item.  I doubt it is a world drop since it is soulbound.  Since it is soulbound, there is no way to sell these Tomes to other JCs.  So it is NOT a Jewelcrafting equivalent of the Book of Glyph Mastery.  Is it possible that Jewelcrafters can only purchase the Tome of Burning Jewels with their JC Tokens?  Will Jewelcrafters only be able to learn their Epic Gem recipes at random choices, instead of picking which Epic Gem Cuts to get first?  Wouldn't that make for some crazy random distribution of Epic Gem cuts where your profits or market control will be based off of the random number generator?  My bet is that the Epic Gem Recipes will be added to the near empty JC vendor out in the Twilight Highlands.

So with the current Patch 4.3 PTR data-mined information we can see gold making options will be available for Epic Gems.  So keep saving up those JC tokens and start looking for a variety of Cataclysm Herbs to pair up with rare gems to start Transmuting Epic Gems.

No Epic Gems: Pyrite Ore Unloading Options

No Epic Gems From Pyrite Ore

Now that Ghostcrawler himself has confirmed that Epic Gems will NOT be coming from Pyrite Ore in WoW Patch 4.3, you might be seeing players unloading their stockpiles of Pyrite Ore on the auction house.  This mass exodus of stockpiled Pyrite Ore has already led to a drop in prices of Pyrite Ore across many WoW servers.  Pyrite Ore just hasn't been able to hold its value now that we know Prospecting the ore will not yield any epic gems.  What should you do to unload your stockpiled Pyrite Ore?

Pyrite Ore Options

Pyrite Ore isn't just for Prospecting.  Pyrite Ore can be smelted into Pyrite Bars.  Bars are often selling for more than the Pyrite Ore cost to smelt and produce your own Pyrite Bars.  Some of the crafted products that require Pyrite Bars include Truegold Transmutations, Ebonsteel Belt Buckles, Pyrium Weapon Chains, and Pyrium Shield Spikes.

Pyrite Ore Options
  • Sell as stacks of Pyrite Ore
  • Prospect Pyrite Ore for Gems and Volatile Earth
  • Smelt Pyrite Ore into Pyrite Bars
Pyrite Bar Options
  • Transmute Truegold
  • Pyrium Weapon Chain
  • Pyrium Shield Spike
  • Ebonsteel Belt Buckle
  • Crafted epic weapons and armor (as Truegold)
If you are sitting on a massive stockpile of Pyrium Ore, then you probably will need to use all of the available avenues to unload your Pyrite Ore.  Depending on how much Pyrite Ore you are looking to unload, you may want to sell it raw just to be rid of it.  The value is surely going to steadily crash until it levels out to a normal acceptable price level.  All of the items that are crafted from Pyrite Ore or Pyrite Bars should see some prices drops as well, due to the crashing prices of Pyrite Ore.

If you are looking to unload your Ore stockpile, you should already be working on unloading your Pyrite Ore and the products created from Truegold and Pyrium Bars.  Truegold required items will see less loss of value thanks to the restrictive once per day cooldown.  If the Truegold cooldown were removed, the value of those crafted items will drop much more quickly.  The current 24 hour crafting cooldown creates a safety buffer against the massive influx of Truegold Bars from alchemists should the cooldown be removed.

Then there is always the option of long term storage.  Maybe the best use of your Pyrite Ore stockpile is to just sit on your stock and wait for the supplies to dry up.  I wonder how much Pyrite Ore will be worth deep into the next expansion when no one is farming it up anymore?

Reader Submission: Multiple Markets, Chimera's Eyes, & How To Make More Gold

Reader Submission / Assistance With Gold Making

Here is an email I received from a reader at Cold's Gold Factory and an avid listener of The Auction House Junkies Podcast.  Read along and follow my responses at the end of this post.  Got questions or ideas you would like covered?  Send em in!
Cold,
I heard of your site from your podcast, Auction House Junkies. I’m a goldmaking addict. I’ll log in some nights and just play at the Auction House for hours and not even venture out into WoW. I currently have just over 1 million gold liquid. Much more in commodities. I just enjoy it immensely. Your suggestions for diversification amongst the professions and jumping in and out of markets at key times have been very helpful. I thoroughly enjoy listening to the podcasts both while I’m gaming and in my car driving to and from work. I have yet to find a podcast to match yours. I do listen to the others you recommend. I just wish there were more of them.

I enjoy your suggestions for upcoming patch changes and how to take advantage of the market during that time period. I have taken your advice and been investing Chimera’s Eyes, buying up any for what I consider cheap. One of the biggest contributions you have made to my goldmaking has been the Undermine Journal. That site is AWESOME! I have my profile set up observing the different commodity prices all the time. I haven’t downloaded the addon yet. Do you use the addon?

I have an engineer btw. :P But, I haven’t used that profession in my goldmaking, yet. I’ll make more of an effort.

I would be interested to know what other markets I could try out. I’m sure there’s portions of markets I’m not using that I am unaware of. These are the crafting professions I have at 525 and what aspects of each I use in my goldmaking:
  • Jewelcrafting (Rare gems. Waiting for Epic gems. Very saturated on my server.)
  • 3 Alchemists – I have 1 of each: Potion Master, Elixir Master, Transmute Master (All potions, flasks, & elixirs)
  • Tailoring (Netherweave Bags, Frostweave Bags, Cloth Lvl 80 gear, Embersilk Bags)
  • Leatherworking (I don’t do anything in this market)
  • 2 Inscriptionists (Mysterious Fortune Cards, Glyphs, occasional Darkmoon Card)
  • Blacksmithing (I don’t do anything in this market)
  • Engineering (I don’t do anything in this market)
  • 2 Enchanters (Do Obsidium shuffle and sell Enchanting mats. Don’t do much in the scroll market, but I’ve kind of wanted to.)
I also have several gatherers (Skinners, Miners, Herbalists). But, I’m not that into farming. Would rather sit at the AH and make gold.
Anyways, keep doing what you do!

Thanks!

Ryan
Ixaon (pronounced Zion) on Cenarius

Thanks for the email submission, Ryan.  I appreciate the kind words about my site and our podcast.  Look out for a new episode of Auction House Junkies soon.  Wes (of CappedByCata.com) and I are planning on recording this weekend as my computer is back and working better than ever.  Thanks again to all the generous and helpful readers and listeners that assisted with either donating funds or purchasing guides to help me raise the funds to get the computer fixed.

Chimera's Eyes may not be used in creating a new Prismatic Gem after all.  We've just found out that Epic Gems will only drop from raid bosses.  We still don't know if those gems that will be dropping are going to be pre-cut or are going to be required to be cut my Jewelcrafters.  So it is possible that Chimera's Eyes could be used in a recipe, if the epic gems are not soulbound and drop in their raw forms.  I was buying up Chimera's Eyes as well and only at cheap prices as I suggested.  Now we may have to find another route to unload those Chimera's Eyes, but that's a post for another day.

Looking over your markets and professions that you use for making gold in WoW, I will give the following ideas for expanding into other markets.
  • Jewelcrafter - Look into buying Dragon's Eyes and selling Nightmare's Tears and other WotLK rare and epic gems.  Try Delicate Copper Wires too.
  • Tailoring - Rich Purple Silk Shirts (very rare pattern) are great. I'm still the only provider and have raised my prices to 35 gold per rare crafted shirt and sales are still coming in.  Add the pattern to your Undermine Journal watch list and snatch it up for cheap.  Highly recommended!
  • Leatherworking - Are Leg Armors and Leather PvP sets dead on your server?  Have you looked into Mammoth Mining Bags?  Barbaric Bracers and Deviate Scale Belts (if you go the pattern before it became obsolete) are also major sellers.
  • Enchanting - Start hunting for mispriced lvl 82+ blues to Disenchant and sell as Heavenly Shards.  you gotta start selling scrolls as many of the Enchants will earn you more sold as a scroll than if you just sold the Enchanting materials raw.  Try some of the Twink / BoA enchants to get started safely and then expand into rare and high end enchants.  Anytime there is a massive influx of new gear Enchants can make sales in the same ballpark as Gem sales.  Also check out some cheap ways to craft and disenchant to create Infinite Dust (The WotLK dust).  I am Shuffling Saronite Ore from my pre-Cataclysm guild bank stockpiles into Infinite Dust, which I am selling singles and stacks at 10 gold per Infinite Dust.  As already mentioned, the wave of alts and levelers are buying it up in droves.  I had to spend a whole Sunday (this last weekend) Shuffling Saronite Ores into Infinite Dust just to keep my stock up with the massive wave of Infinite Dust sales.
  • Blacksmithing - You are leaving a lot of money on the table by not utilizing your Blacksmith more.  Enchanting Rods are still a huge seller, especially now with many players leveling alts and new professions.  PvP Plate mail and Tanking gear are also solid options.  I also use my BS/ Miner to make a hefty profit selling Hardened Elementium Bars when Elementium Ore dips stupidly cheap.
  • Engineering - It isn't as hard to make gold with Engineering as many players make it out to be (they probably exagerate the difficulty to scare competitor's away).  All of the Engineering crafted pets are good to start crafting.  The new Gun from the Firelands unlocked recipe is a nice way to bring in a big chunk of gold at once and use up some of those extra Chaos Orbs.  The new scopes are still selling well along with Ethers, Fused Wirings, Bolts, Khorium Power Cores, Adamantite Frames and other odd ball items.
  • Alchemy - Never forget about transmuting Arcanite Bars.  Materials are cheap and I am currently selling a lot of Arcanite Bars at 75 gold for a single Arcanite Bar and they are selling 5-10 times a night in the overnight market.

So I hope those ideas help either jog your memory of a forgotten market or help you find a new market to make gold in WoW.  Thanks again for the reader submission!

Cataclysm Patch 4.3 Epic Gems - Pyrite Ore Is Fool's Gold After All

"I Pity The Fools That Stockpiled Pyrite Ore For Epic Gems!"

Cataclysm Patch 4.3 Epic Gems Will Come From Raid Bosses Only

Yup. That's correct.  Ghostcrawler (Greg Street) has finally spilled the beans on where Epic Gems will be coming from.  It is confirned that Epic Gems will be added in WoW Patch 4.3, which is also the last major content patch for the World of Warcraft Cataclysm expansion.  Epic gems are going to be coming from the new Deathwing raid content and will drop from normal and heroic mode bosses only (and not at all for the new easy difficulty raid option that is coming too).

These raid bosses will offer a rare drop "geode" for killing a raid boss in the new Patch 4.3 Deathwing raid content.  If the "geode" drops from a rare boss, each raid member will get their own "geode", which can then be opened to see what gems are inside.  There can be an epic gem or a rare gem.  This reminds me of the individual holiday boss loot bags (Like the Keg-Shaped Chest from killing Coren Direbrew, the Brewfest Boss), where you get your container and open it to see what you got.  Everyone gets one and everyone gets their own RNG roll when they open their "geode" container.  This helps eliminate the loot getting divided up in groups as everyone will get their "geode" and a chance at getting an epic gem.

Cata Epic Gems Unanswered Questions

That is a quick summary of what we currently know based on the various Blizzard staff interviews and Patch 4.3 information releases.  There are still some things that are unanswered that pertain to Epic Gems.  Hopefully we will see a Patch 4.3 PTR soon and learn more information on the fate of Epic Gems and Gem Cut Patterns.  These are the main questions that still need to be answered.
  1. Will Epic Gems inside the "geodes" be raw Epic Gems or cut Epic Gems?
  2. Will these Epic Gems be soulbound (BoP) or tradeable (BoE)?
  3. Will there be Jewelcrafting recipes for cutting these Epic Gems?
  4. What will the currency be that is used to purchase these Epic Gem recipe cuts?
In the notes there was a mention of new crafting recipes coming in WoW Patch 4.3, but there wasn't a specific reference to what professions would be getting new recipes.  Maybe there will be new recipes for Epic Gem Cuts or maybe new recipes for multiple professions.  We just have to wait and see to find out when more information is available.

Jewelcrafting in Patch 4.3 is not going to be the big gold earning profession that we all assumed it would be once Epic Gems were added into Cataclysm.  Even if Blizzard adds Epic Gem Cuts into the game and the Epic Gems from "geodes" are tradeable, they will still be rare and not a widely distributed commodity.  Only raiders will be able to obtain them.  As Jewelcrafters we may be stuck working mainly just for tips on cutting Epic Gems and we all know what a nightmare that fee pricing / tipping model that can be.

Pyrite Ore Is Fool's Gold

Pyrite Ore is also dubbed "Fool's Gold" in the real world.  You didn't invest too heavily into Pyrite Ore hoping to get rich when Epic Gems became available from Prospecting did you?  Pyrite Ore as a source of Epic Gems was nothing but pure speculation.  Today that speculative bubble burst and ruined the risky plans of many who choose to stock up on Pyrite Ore.  Today the prices are already crashing down and stacks are already under 100g for full stacks of Pyrite Ore on my server.  I feel bad for the foolish players that stocked up too much on speculation.  As in anything, it is a lesson to be learned.  Speculation is all about High-Risk taking in hopes of a High-Payout Reward should that speculation become true.  As with any major stockpile on speculation, you simply must have an escape route in case things don't work out as planned.

If you didn't stock up of Pyrite Ore, then you can take advantage of the incoming Pyrite Ore crash.  Truegold Transmuting, Ebonsteel Belt Buckles, and Pyrium Bars are 3 outs you can take to unload your Pyrite Ore without losing too much gold.  You can also prospect and sell the rare gems you get, but be careful.  Volatile Earth and the current gems markets should both see prices continuing to drop as players churn through their massive stockpiles of Pyrite Ore.  I would hold onto Chimera's Eyes at this point until we know more.  If there is a new Prismatic Gem, it is possible that the "geode" would contain 1 piece that needs a Chimera's Eye added to it to become a full Prismatic Tear type gem (that is if the "geode" drops uncut epic gems).  I will work up another post to show ways to unload Chimera's Eyes for those of you that need tips on moving any that you may have stocked up on hoping for a new Prismatic Tear Epic Gem.

As of now, we just have to wait it out and look for more answers to our unanswered questions about Epic Gems in WoW Cataclysm Patch 4.3.

Which Epic Gems Cuts To Buy First For WoW Gold Profits?

Note: Epic Gems In Patch 4.3 Are Going to Drop Inside Of Raids (Info just released today Sept 19th).  This post was written as speculation on epic gems prior to the announcement.  You can still benefit from this post, if you are a newer Jewelcrafter looking for which rare patterns to start selling.  The gem pre-fixes are the same for rare gems and epic gems.  Pyrite is Fool's Gold after all.  What is still up in the air is whether the raid boss dropped epic gems will be dropping as cut or uncut epic gems.

**************************

Which Epic Gem Cut Recipes Should I Get First?

If WoW Patch 4.3 brings us Epic Gems as we are hoping for, many of us will have a surplus of saved up Jewelcrafting daily tokens from Jewelcrafting dailies ready to spend on the new epic gem cuts.  Hopefully Blizzard sticks with the same epic gem recipe formula and makes the cut epic gem patterns available for Jewelcrafting tokens.  It is speculated that each epic gem recipe will require 5-6 Jewelcrafting tokens.  (Remember everything is pure speculation at this point.)  If epic gems do come to World of Warcraft within Patch 4.3, there will be another massive wave of gold making opportunities.  Which patterns / recipes / cuts should you buy first to maximize your investment of Jewelcrafting tokens?

The Gem Array at The Undermine Journal is a great starting place for deciding which gem cuts to sell.  When using the Gem Array at The Undermine Journal, you can get a quick snapshot of the current gem cuts and what they are selling for on your server.  Remember that every server is different.  What sells for top gold on your server may sell for much less gold on another.  There can even be heavy price fluctuations between each faction's auction houses on your same server.

Epic Gem Cut Recipe Choices

Epic gem cut patterns, regardless of how they are introduced into WoW, will not all be available to you as soon as they are added to the game.  Which epic gem recipe cuts you purchase first is very important for maximizing your gold making possibilities.  Buy the correct epic gem cuts early on and you can make a hefty chunk of WoW gold.  Buy the wrong epic gem cuts and you may squander away some major gold making chances.

I would suggest starting with purchasing the recipes for the main epic gem cuts for each color.  By main cuts I mean the epic gem patterns that tend to sell in great volumes because of the awesome and highly desired gem stat combinations.  I suggest that you first acquire 1 epic gem cut in each color, as well as all 3 of the major red gems that provide solid primary stat boosts.

Main Cuts To Buy First:

Red
  • Bold (+ Strength)
  • Brilliant (+ Intelligence)
  • Delicate (+ Agility)
Blue
  • Solid (+ Stamina)
  • Rigid (+ Hit)
Yellow
  • Fractured (+ Mastery)
  • Smooth (+ Critical)
Purple
  • Purified (+ Int and + Spirit)
  • Veiled (+ Int and + Hit Rating)
Green
  • Jagged (+ Crit and + Stamina)
  • Puissant (+ Mastery and + Stamina)
Orange
  • Reckless (+ Int and + Haste)
  • Potent (+Int and + Crit)
Prismatic
  • The New Tear (+ All Stats)  - This is going to be a nice gold making epic gem cut and it is going to be a major gold maker for those that took my advice and stocked up on cheap Chimera's Eyes
I would grab all 3 of the red gems, then work on getting at least 1 in every color (so you don't have epic gems piling up on you waiting for a epic gem cut pattern of the chosen color).  Once you have all 3 red epic gem cuts and 1 in each color, then you should start looking to expand even further.  An options of starting out filling an epic gem niche market early into the days following the release of the epic gems could be a very profitable adventure as most players will head for the main cuts first.  If you pick up some of the main cuts and then focus on a specific niche (like the tanking or PvP niches) you may see less competition and more profits.  So pick your patterns wisely, plan ahead and venture on into the gold making bonanza that will be epic gems.

Chimera's Eye - The WoW Epic Gem Project

Chimera

Chimera's Eye

The Chimera's Eye is a raw material that is used by the World of Warcraft Jewelcrafting profession.  Currently the Chimera's Eye is a reagent in the Jewelcrafter only Chimera's Eye gems as well as a handful of blue Jewelcrafter crafted jewelry pieces for the neck and ring slots.  A pair of Chimera's Eyes are also required in the only other craftable to utilize these, the novelty item - Rhinestone Sunglasses.  A few of the jewelry pieces that require Chimera's Eye have potential to be profitable, but overall they haven't been moving too well for me.  If you listened to the latest episode of Auction House Junkies, then you may have heard my own plans for Chimera's Eye.

The Chimera's Eye Epic Gem Project

Chimera's Eye is the direct equivalent of the Dragon's Eye from Wrath.  Dragon's Eye was the primary material required for creating the epic Prismatic gem, Nightmare's Tear.  Following similar logic, we can expect to see Chimera's Eye as the primary material required for creating the upcoming epic prismatic gem equivalent for Cataclysm.  So I have purchasing Chimera's Eyes off of the auction house every chance I get.

Why Buy Chimera's Eye?
  • Once Epic Gems are added to WoW, the demand will skyrocket.
  • Chimera's Eyes can be flooded at times on the auction house and can be available for cheap and in quantity.
  • Chimera's Eyes cannot be crafted reliably from Fire Prisms and they have a 24 hours Cooldown.
  • Some impatient players are spending JC tokens to buy Chimera's Eyes to sell on the WoW AH.
Due to 24 hr Cooldowns, the non-profitability of crafting Fire Prisms (as opposed to better uses for the required materials),the randomness of Fire Prisms containing Chimera's Eyes, the shift to saving and spending  JC tokens for Epic Gem patterns, the rush for the new Nightmare's Tear Cataclysm equivalent, and the rising costs of or will ALL play a role in 1 thing - an upcoming demand spike followed by a supply shortage of Chimera's Eyes once Epic Gems are finally implemented.  Think smart and think ahead too.  Stock up now to profit later.

Fire Prism Strategy and Epic Gem Speculation

Will Fire Prism Contain Epic Gems?
The Fire Prism

A Fire Prism is crafted by Jewelcrafters and is limited to crafting only one per day.  The Fire Prism takes 3 of each uncommon gem to craft and is therefore a very expensive Jewelcrafting item to craft.  Those gems can be used in more efficient ways to make a profit on the World of Warcraft auction houses in Azeroth.  The benefit of crafting the Fire Prism is that it will produce multiple rare gems and a chance at containing a Chimera's Eye.  The rare gems contained inside the Fire Prism rarely are worth the value of the uncommon gems being used to create the Fire Prism.  Of course, you can get the occasional nice Fire Prism that contains 3 Inferno Rubies and a Chimera's Eye in the 1 Fire Prism, but those are rare occurances.

Epic Gems Speculation

There is much speculation about the introduction of epic gems into the current World of Warcraft player environment.  As of right now there is no evidence of anything related to epic gems and the epic gem patterns.  Everything is purely speculative at this point in regards to epic gems.
  • When will epic gems be introduced into WoW?
  • Will epic gems even be added?
  • If epic gems are added, where will they come from?
  • If epic gems are added, who will sell the epic gems recipes?
  • What will be the required currency for buying the epic gem recipes?
  • Will Pyrite Ore be prospected into epic gems?
  • Will Fire Prism have a chance to create epic gems?
Fire Prism To Contain Epic Gems?

Today we are looking at the Fire Prism and speculating on the future of epic gems coming from inside Fire Prisms.  I know of at least one follower that has been stockpiling his Fire Prisms unopened in the bank.  Currently he has around 50 unopened Fire Prisms stored up.  Why?  In Wrath of the Lich King, Icy Prism had the ability to create epic wrath gems when opened.  Assuming the similar fate for the Cataclsym equivalent, Fire Prisms will probably have a chance to create epic Cataclysm gems when opened.

If epic gem creation is patched and added to Fire Prisms, then the Fire Prism will be a much more profitable item to craft, especially when epic gems are first introduced and the demand is outrageously high.  This reader will have a lot of Fire Prisms all ready to be opened with a chance for each Fire Prism to contain epic gems.  These epic gems could provide the jump start and early advantage to profitting from the first days of epic gem sales.

I am in agreement that eventually Fire Prisms will have a chance to contain epic gems.  Of course this is speculation, but it is based off of the historical change to Icy Prisms.  The area that I start to ponder is whether the pre-crafted Fire Prisms will contain the epic gems.  When are the contents of the Fire Prism set?  Is it when the item is created or are the contents set when the Fire Prism is opened?  I don't know for sure, so I haven't been crafting any Fire Prisms myself to store for later.  This is an option for consideration, if you like to take risks.  At this point I can't say that it is a guaranteed effective strategy, but is an option for you to consider.  It could be worth stocking up the unopened Fire Prisms or it could be a waste of materials and bank space.  We just don't know yet, but that's what speculation is all about.  It's trying to figure out ahead of time what we think will eventually happen with epic gems.

Anyone else been secretly stockpiling these unopened Fire Prisms?
Got any other fresh ideasin regards to epic gems speculation?

Patch 4.2 Gem Stacking and Epic Gems | Guest Post By Shikari

Today I have a guest post by Shikari of Shikari's AH.  Shikari is just getting his feet wet in WoW gold blogging.  Be sure to check out what he has to say on this new site at http://shikarigold.blogspot.com/.

Patch 4.2 and Stacked Gems
WoW Patch 4.2 is already shaping up to be an interesting patch for players with a lot of new things coming out. This includes a new zone with new factions, dailies, and most importantly a new raid. Patch 4.2 is also introducing a big change for WoW Jewelcrafters, the ability to stack cut gems.

This is going to have a dramatic effect on the gem economy across servers. A lot of my business comes from players who have just obtained a new piece of gear and need the gems quickly, so they buy them from the auction house. This change is going to effect that market in a unique way, but fear not Jewelcrafters this could be a good opportunity for us in several ways.

1.) If your server is anything like mine then obsidian ore and elementium ore have been crashing like there is no tomorrow. On my server the price for these ore’s has plummeted and last week I picked up 40 stacks of elementium for 23 gold a piece. Once the patch drops (even if epic gems are implemented), there will still be a demand for superior quality gems by players gearing up for new content.  If epic gems aren’t implemented, players who are progressing through the new raid content will still be buying the gems we are currently selling.  Some of these players, who don’t like repeated visits to the AH will take to buying multiple gems that they will be able to keep in their bags in stacks.

2.) Many players, feeling burned out took time off the game. One thing I noticed on my server, not too sure about other servers, was that after high end guilds managed to down all Cataclysm raid content (whether on heroic or normal), many of those guilds wound up quitting wow and stating they would be reforming with the release of Firelands. Many of these players will be coming back and these high end guilds will need cut gems.

This is a good opportunity for Jewelcrafters as many of those high end guild gem cutters did not do the gem dailies and obtain tokens during their hiatus.  Many of them may have only the basic cuts. Whether epic gems are implemented or not, many guilds who supply gems to their guild will jump to ensure that their guild bank has some cut gems on stock so they’re players will not waste much time trying to find someone to cut said gems.  If epic gems are implemented, many guilds and players will be wanted said gems for higher content and will be paying top dollar for cut epic gems so that they don’t have to go shopping for a JC with a particular cut.

Patch 4.0.1 Major Gem Changes

Winds of Change
Patch 4.0.1 has brought about some crazy changes within the game world.  The ground is shaking from tremors, the cities are filled with people and this patch has turned everything upside down.  One of the major changes for players, crafters, and sellers has been within the selling and socketing of cut gems.

Look Into GemsThere have been many different things that have changed about gems.  Have you scribes even taken yourself away from your mailboxes long enough to see what is up with the gem market?  Have you looked at your gear yet?  Some big things to take note of:
  1. Some stats were removed.  This means gems of those types have been replaced with another stat gem.  Attack Power became Agility.  Spellpower became Intelligence.  Defense became Dodge or Parry.  Armor Pen became Crit.  Mp5 became Spirit.
  2. Some gems have changed color.  Hit is now blue.  Mastery & Dodge are now yellow.  Intelligence is now Red.
  3. Some gems have changed color and stats and may no longer match their sockets.
  4. Sigils, Librams, and Idols now have stats and an unsocketed gem slot.
  5. The removal of the Transmute Cooldown for epic gems is bugged (it still exists) and the eternal markets are flooded.
Strike Now!
All of these changes mean that many players all week long, will be logging in to their various characters and having to regem many of their sockets.  Not just Strength gems, but all kinds of gems are being bought.  Meta's are flying off the auction house too!  With the combining of Frost Emblems and Triumph Emblems into Justice points, many people are gemming and enchanting brand new gear they couldn't afford before the patch.  This is a perfect oppurtunity to unload what you can for a good price before the market starts to collapse once the alchemy cooldown bug is fixed.

The WINTERGRASP Shuffle

Wintergrasp Commendation
Binds to account
Item Level 1
Use: Grants you 2000 honor.

The Wintergrasp Shuffle

Here is how i do my PvP shuffle to make gold in the AH.

Run WG as often as you can because this is by far the quickest and easiest way to get a ton of honor in a short amount of time. Try not to miss any WG battles while you are online. Make sure to complete every WG weekly quest on as many characters as u can to further increase your profits.

Completing all 5 quests nets you: 18,615 Honor, 66g 15s (at lvl 80), and 50 Stone Keeper's Shards.
When your faction has control of WG Keep, visit the WG Vendor and turn in all of your SK Shards and WG Marks for Wintergrasp Commendations. Each Wintergrasp Commendation gives u 2000 Bind-on-Account Honor.

Then mail all of these BoA tokens to your Jewelcrafter. Use the honor tokens on your Jewelcrafter (since he's probably logged in your capital city anyways) and use all of your honor to purchase Epic Gems from the Jewelcrafting vendor in your faction's capital cities PvP reward shop. Sell these epic gems as raw mats or sell the cut versions for even more profit.

So u can get a Wintergrasp Commendation (2000 BoA Honor) from:
9 WG Marks of Honor (from WG Wins / Losses)
30 Stone Keeper's Shards (from WG quests and running Heroics)
and it takes just 5 Wintergrasp Commendation to convert to an epic gem.
You also can purchase the Epic Gems with the honor your earn from your battlegrounds.

Most people have a ton of Stone Keeper's Shards just sitting in their currency tab with nothing to purchase and don't even know they can flip it. Trying to by honor off of people in the form of epic gem honor conversions has led to a TON of confusion in the trade chat and from the potential sellers, in my experience so far.

Each epic Gem only costs 10k Honor. I am constantly buying these gems with honor points and making a ton of money. Much more than buying titanium at ridiculous prices to hopefully get an epic gem proc.

Good luck and happy killing.
