Guide To Booster Pack Gambling For WoW TCG Loot

A Guide To Gambling For World of Warcraft Loot Codes

Reign of Fire Booster Packs

Demand and Loot Code Use As A Blogger or Podcaster

As a World of Warcraft blogger, I learned one thing early on:  Warcraft players love their WoW Trading Card Game Loot!  Many players are willing to buy multiple booster packs and cases of WoW TCG boosters just for a chance to win some loot codes.  More specifically, players are always on the hunt for the super rare and expensive mounts and pets and buying the actual booster packs for a chance at opening a rare is often a more affordable option for many players, since prized treasures like the Spectral Tiger Mount can cost $500 or more.

As a Warcraft blogger, I also learned another key bit of wisdom:  Buying WoW TCG loot cards for giveaways is an incredible efficient way to expand and advertise your blog!  I've often purchased handfuls of WoW TCG pet loot cards to use as contest awards and giveaways.  Whether you are holding a blog birthday celebration, looking for new followers on twitter, need ideas for podcast giveaways, or are building your email newsletter subscriptions, WoW TCG pet codes and WoW TCG vanity codes are super efficient advertising tools to incorporate into your advertising budget.

Many times you can find pet codes for under $5-$10 each on Amazon and I've bought some pet codes for as little as $1.99-$3.99 each.  That $5 investment into a giveaway is super cheap for advertising that actually works to bring you new and returning traffic as well as new subscribers.  And for the big celebrations, giving away WoW TCG Mount cards will really bring the traffic and subscriptions home, if you wish to invest a bit more for those more expensive mount codes.

So if you are a World of Warcraft blogger or podcaster, then I highly recommend grabbing some WoW TCG loot cards to use as giveaways and advertising tools.  It's a great low cost marketing investment idea that actually works.

The 2 Main Types Of WoW TCG Booster Pack Buyers

Some players prefer to gamble for a chance at winning, as opposed to buying the loot cards specifically.  This can be a lot of fun or a headache if you gamble and don't get what you want.  Try to remember that this is a form of gambling, not all booster packs are going to contain loot cards, and it's never cool to leave a horrible review on a booster pack purchase just because you didn't get the loot card you wanted out of your booster packs!  I see it all too often!

WoW TCG Booster Pack Gambling

This guide should help to serve two types of buyers:  The Gambler & The Add-On Shopper.

The Gambler is the Warcraft player that loves to buy the WoW TCG Booster packs and cases of boosters in hopes of pulling an expensive loot card to either use for their own Warcraft characters in game or to have a real life investment item that they seek to flip for a real life profit.  Yes, there are players who buy cases in hopes of finding a rare mount to sell for cash.  When the booster pack cases are on sale and deeply discounted, this tactic has the potential to be very rewarding.

The Add-On Shopper is the Warcraft player who is already shopping on Amazon and buying something for themselves that isn't that expensive.  Amazon has a policy that you get free shipping on many items if your pre-tax shopping total of Amazon purchased items is $35 or greater (current policy and subject to change).  The Add-On Shopper knows about the free shipping requirement of $35, so when his shopping cart totals to just $25, he adds a few unopened WoW TCG booster packs to his order to bump the total to just over $35 to get the free shipping option.  This option is a wise one because instead of throwing away money on shipping alone, you spend a tad bit more and get booster packs and can gamble for a chance to get one of those expensive mounts or pets!  Remember to think like the Add-On Shopper when your next Amazon purchase totals just under the free shipping threshold of $35.

Which WoW TCG Booster Packs Contain What Rare Loots?

For those players that are interested in buying their own WoW TCG booster packs, it helps to have a breakdown of what exact loot cards can be found in which booster packs, since there are a ton of already released expansions for the Warcraft trading card game and not all of them contain WoW loot codes.

Rarity is also important to keep in mind.  The rarest of the loot cards will almost always be the mounts within that expansion.  The vanity items and pets will usually be either common or uncommon distribution, but the mounts will almost always be the rarest and hardest to find.  While it is possible to buy just a single booster pack and get a rare mount, it is also very unlikely.  Buying a case of TCG booster packs increases your odds of getting a rare loot card, but still is not a guarantee.  Although buying a sealed booster box is a guarantee that you will receive some loot cards, it doesn't guarantee that you will get a mount card.

Make sure to check the prices between booster packs and cases because some of these sets you can buy a full booster box for under $25!

Hoping To Get A Spectral Tiger Mount Code?

The most common gambled for loot card is the Spectral Tiger and the original packs that they appeared in are both rare and expensive, but you have better options.  If your main goal is to get a Spectral Tiger Mount card and you don't want to buy a Spectral Tiger outright, you actually have 4 options.

The Spectral Tiger Mount Can Be Found In These Options:
  1. Fires of Outland Booster Packs - Original appearance, but rare, hard to find, & expensive.
  2. Wrathgate Expansion Booster Packs - The Spectral Tiger has a chance to appear in Landro's Gift Box.
  3. Archives Expansion Booster Packs - The Archives Expansion was an all foil released set of the most popular WoW TCG loot cards from the previous expansion sets.  A reprint set with another chance to get a Spectral Tiger.
  4. Reign of Fire Expansion Booster Packs - The final expansion ever to be released for the WoW TCG, which includes all previously released loot cards, but with better odds of winning.  This one is a hugely popular set because you have a chance to get any of the loot cards ever made.
  5. Check eBay for WoW TCG Loot Codes

If you've had good luck promoting your site with loot card giveaways or have had some great luck opening booster packs for loot codes, then be sure to share your experiences in the comments!

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR BOOSTER PACKS!

Reign of Fire God Packs: How Cheaters Prosper & You Lose Out

HOW TO CHERRY PICK GOD PACKS

WoW TCG Reign of Fire God Packs:

How Cheaters Prosper & You Lose Out

The newest WoW Trading Card Game Expansion: Reign of Fire is a huge hit already and has many World of Warcraft players gambling for their chances at the WoW loot card lotto.  Many of the purchasers of the Reign of Fire Booster Packs and Reign of Fire Booster Pack Boxes aren't even players of the WoW TCG.  Since this newest WoW TCG expansion re-issues every single WoW loot card ever previously released, you can see why these new booster packs are so popular and are flying off the shelves everywhere!

Yeah, you read that right.  Every single Vanity Item Card, Mount Loot Card, and Pet Loot Card has a chance to be found in the new Reign of Fire Booster Packs.

Not only can you pull the old loot, but the drop rates have been increased and you also have a chance at the new Reign of Fire God Packs.

Reign of Fire God Packs

A Reign of Fire God Pack is a super rare booster pack that is composed of an entire pack of loot cards!  Yup, you read that right too.  In a Reign of Fire God Pack, every single card in the pack is a loot code, so that means you would get 15 loot cards in one single pack.  Better yet, these God Packs aren't going to follow the same rarity distribution and will be composed of primarily rare loot cards!

So obviously you are going to hope and pray for ones of these super rare God Packs, but unfortunately you don't have a fair chance of pulling a God Pack unless you purchase a sealed box of Reign of Fire booster packs.  Here's why:

Cherry Picking Cheaters

Throughout every trading card game ever created there have been people who try to cheat the system and figure out which packs contain foil cards, loot cards, and special God Packs prior to purchasing any boosters packs.  The WoW TCG is no different and the addition of the God Packs in the Reign of Fire expansion makes it even more of a target for cherry picking cheaters.

"Cherry Picking" is the process of picking out the best packs of any given booster box for yourself, as opposed to just buying packs and hoping to open a good pack.  How is that even possible?

Well, loot cards have a slight weight difference (as slightly heavier) because the loot cards have extra adhesive and the scratch-able strip that covers the loot code itself.  Loot cards also tend to be on slightly thicker and stiffer card stock, which also adds to the slight weight difference.  So it is possible to open a sealed booster box and weigh each pack individually, find the 2-4 packs within that booster box that are slightly heavier, and successfully cherry pick the loot card packs right out of the box.  This is possible with the minute weight difference on the booster packs that contain a single loot card.  Now think about a Reign of Fire God Pack that is all 15 loot cards.  The weight difference is going to be much more noticeable, especially with a digital scale.

So your odds of getting super lucky and pulling a super rare Reign of Fire God Pack are pretty slim and unless you are buying sealed booster boxes, you almost definitely won't be getting a God Pack from a random booster pull.  The local shop owner probably cherry picked the booster boxes before they even went on the shelf and if he didn't, you can bet the employees have.  Same thing with online sales and purchases at the local convenience or general store.  If the employees haven't picked through the packs, a customer with a digital scale may already have searched them as well.

If you want to get on board with the other cheaters and start cherry picking packs yourself, then make sure to grab a pocket digital scale that goes to .01 or .001 accuracy for precision.  You best bet is to hit local non-gaming stores, where the employees and managers are uneducated on how cherry picking rare loot works.  Try places like Target, Walmart or the grocery store because you can almost bet a gaming shop has been cherry picked by either the owner or the staff.

You best bet and best defense against cherry picking of God Packs and loot containing packs is to only buy sealed booster boxes of reign of fire.

Find Precision Pocket Scales on Amazon

Buy Sealed Booster Boxes on Amazon

Search for Reign of Fire Loot Cards on Amazon

So now you know how cheaters can cherry pick booster packs before you even purchase them and you also learned that you can protect yourself against these cherry picking cheaters by buying unopened boxes of Reign of Fire booster packs.

You may recall me discussing Reign of Fire with Rez and Nonmail on The Eviscerated Gaming Podcast Episode # 53 - "Party Pooper".  This WoW TCG expansion is highly anticipated by World of Warcraft players because of two awesome things:

  1. Every WoW Loot Card ever created in the previous WoW TCG sets will be included in Reign of Fire!
  2. The drops rates of all loot cards has been increased so you have better chances to get loot code cards!
The drop rate of the rare cards alone has been doubled and the common and uncommon cards have had their drop rates increased significantly as well.  So you now have even better chances to pull one of the awesome loot cards like the Spectral Kitten, Spectral Tiger Mounts, Feldrake or any of the other cool WoW loot codes.

Darkmoon Faire Post 5.2 Offers Chance At Free Pets & Vanity Items

The Darkmoon Faire Prize Ticket Change

While I was working on the shownotes for the next episode of The Eviscerated Gaming Podcast, I ran across the Patch 5.2 Undocumented Changes.  There are some nice changes that haven't been disclosed in the official Patch 5.2 notes, including changes to the Darkmoon Faire Prize Ticket System.  Remember in Patch 5.1, when they changed the production of Imperial Silk to Silk Cocoon, which gave a chance to get pets when crafting Imperial Silk?  Well, they've done something similar with the Darkmoon Faire ticket rewards.

Check out all of the Undocumented Patch 5.2 Changes at this source.

New Darkmoon Game Prize

With WoW Patch 5.2, the non-profession daily quests at the Darkmoon Faire now each award a Darkmoon Game Prize instead of just a single Darkmoon Faire Prize Ticket.  The Darkmoon Game Prize is a container that will always include your 1 Darkmoon Faire Prize Ticket, but also has a chance to contain once of the Darkmoon Faire Pets or one of the newly added Darkmoon Faire Vanity Items!

The non-profession quests are simply the 5 daily quests of playing games at the Darkmoon Faire.  The quests that now award the Darkmoon Game Prize (and your chance at bonus pets and vanity items) are:
  1. He Shoots, He Scores!
  2. The Humanoid Cannonball
  3. It's Hammer Time
  4. Target: Turtle
  5. Tonk Commander
In addition to each of the Darkmoon Faire pets, you can also get other items that normally cost Darkmoon Tickets, including the Darkmoon Whistle and Cloak of the Darkmoon Faire.  There are also new single use vanity items that can also be found within the new Darkmoon Game Prize container.

Pet & Mount Collector Tip

So if you are a collector and are saving up to get all of the pets and the mounts from the Darkmoon Faire, then post Patch 5.2, the wise strategy would be to go for both mounts first.  You are sure to get a few of the Darkmoon Pets out of your Darkmoon Game Prizes as you amass the Darkmoon Prize Tickets required for both of the mounts.  Then you can focus on getting the pets once you have the mounts.  This will help prevent getting a free pet that you've already purchased, as you will be purchasing your pets last.

This new addition of the Darkmoon Game Prize is also a nice boost for running your lower level alts through the Darkmoon Faire as each day they will each get 5 chances at a free pet that you can cage and sell on the auction house (or level up and sell for even more profit).

20 Days of Gold Making (Day 10) - My Farming Theory

This entry is part of a series of gold making posts answering the questions in the 20 Days of Gold Making Challenge started by Nev over at Auction House Addict.  If you also blog, then be sure to check out the gold blogging challenge for post topic ideas.

20 Days Of Gold Making - Day 10

Farming Theory In World of Warcraft

Do You Farm Materials?  What, Where & Why?
Do I farm on my World of Warcraft characters?  Yes & No.  Do I spend time running around farming for raw materials alone?  Never.  Farming as a primary objective is almost never worth the time investment that is required.  I do however still collect raw materials while out and about in the World of Warcraft, but it's not farming in the true sense of the word.

Crafter / Gatherer Alt Combos

I still level each and every alternate character to unlock the ability to craft within every profession.  I do this in order to have greater diversity and flexibility within the auction house markets.  I still stick with the old-school way of thinking and have a gathering profession paired with each crafting profession.  Since none of my alternate characters are just "stand in town and do nothing but craft" type of characters, I don't have double crafting professions on any character except my Tailor / Enchanter.  Nowadays, Tailoring is also a gathering profession after the inclusion of the Northrend Scavenging bonus.
Since each of my characters are out in the world leveling up and doing dailies for reputation grinds to unlock recipes, I have a gathering profession on each and every one.  I don't go out of my way to farm materials, but I also hate running past materials that are right there free for the taking.  So each character of mine will be able to grab up the ore, herbs, or skins that present themselves within my already chosen path.  If I'm questing and leveling a character up, the nearby raw materials take hardly no extra time to grab and provide the leveling alt with experience as well.  So it's a win win in my book.

How many materials have you flown over and ignored because you are a dual-crafter?  Wasted opportunities in my opinion.  This expansion it has been pretty easy to not even have to buy many raw materials off of the auction house for crafting because my army of leveling gatherers brings in a nice amount of ore and herbs.  And these are herbs and ores that are near what I'm already doing anyways!
Occasional Targeted Farming

Once in a blue moon, I may set time aside to go and farm something specific, but the desired item must meet specific criteria.
  1. Is this item not available in sufficient supply on the auction house?
  2. Is this item required in a crafted item that would make it worth my time to even farm to begin with?
  3. Are these crafted items selling well on my server's auction house?
  4. Must I farm extra resources just to keep up with the demand of the crafted item?
So on the rare occasion an item required in a recipe that I craft that is a nice profitable stable of my auction house business will run low or out of supply on the auction house.  In this rare instance, I may spend some time farming up that specific material in order to keep my crafted end products selling on the auction house.

The best example I can think of is during older expansions when I would commonly go out and spend 30 mins to an hour farming up my own Globes of Water (fishing them from pools in the old Azshara zone).  These are required as a crafting component of the Tranquil Mechanical Yeti companion pet and the auction house would often run dry.  This was during older expansions when the Engineering pet market was a very viable gold making market.  I wouldn't dare think of farming Globes of Water anymore because the market for damn near all pets is now shit, and the Yeti is no exception.

Imperial Silk Now Awards Pets Post Patch 5.1

Tailoring Pets From Silkworm Cocoon Daily

Imperial Silk's Silkworm Cocoon

The daily Tailoring cooldown, Imperial Silk, got a nice buff when we got Warcraft's Patch 5.1.  Prior to Patch 5.1, Imperial Silk was crafted and placed directly into your Tailor's bags.  After the launch of WoW Patch 5.1, Blizzard has changed the process up a bit.

Enter...The Silkworm Cocoon

The Silkworm Cocoon

The Silkworm Cocoon is a new intermediate step added into the creation of the Tailoring daily item, Imperial Silk.  Instead of just having the Imperial Silk added directly to your bag, you now get a Silkworm Cocoon.  Opening the Silkworm Cocoon you will find your single piece of Imperial Silk, but on the rare case you may also find a companion pet!

That is correct!  When you craft your daily Imperial Silk, you also have a chance to be awarded one of two companion pets.  The 2 pets that can come from within the Silkworm Cocoon are:
  1. Imperial Silkworm (~17% chance)
  2. Imperial Moth (~2% chance)
The Imperial Silkworm is a green colored uncommon pet, while the Imperial Moth is a blue colored Rare pet.  Both of these pets are not bound to you and can be sold on the auction house.  The Silkworm Cocoon is the only source for these 2 pets, so Tailors have a unique gold making item with these 2 pets.

So make sure you don't forget to park that Tailoring alt in the Silken Fields and crank out those Silkworm Cocoons each day!

Battle Pets Killed Companion Pet Markets

best battle pets in wow

The Biggest Losers In MoP: Companion Pets

With the Launch of Mists of Pandaria also came the beginning of the Battle Pet era.  Originally the Battle Pet addition to WoW sounded like a great way to make even more gold off of the companion pets that had been so lucrative during previous WoW expansions.  That was after the initial Battle Pet announcement, but as we started to learn more and more about the details of the Battle Pet System, my opinion started to drastically change.

As soon as we learned that duplicate Battle Pets from multiple alts would be refunded back to us (then changed to be added to our Pet Journal), I started unloading my pets in droves, especially the holiday pets.  Remember my post Pet Battles & Pet Flipping: Get Our While You Still Can?  I hope you took my advice and didn't listen to the others telling you to stock up on companion pets to flip at a later date.

Originally, I thought the same, but as the details rolled out, I warned you to dump your pets here on the blog, on both of the podcasts I am on.  It turns out, I was correct.  While some pets saw a slight increase in the average price over the weeks leading up to the expansion, as soon as MoP launched companion pets across the board have been on a decline ever since.  Some of the companion pets have taken a huge plunge in value, especially the Holiday pets since everyone got a ton of them refunded back into their pet journals from all of their alts.  For example the Sinister Squashling has lost 90% of its value since the Battle Pet system launched.

The Companion Pet Market Crash

There are many factors that have contributed to the collapse in value of the WoW companion pet markets.  The overall pricing discrepencies between battle pets and companion pets is only one of the contributing factors.  Here are a few more reasons that prices have come crashing down on companion pets.
  1. Refunded duplicate pets - The flood of pets from alts lead to plenty of flooding and price drops.
  2. You don't need to purchase pets to complete achievements - The pet achievements can be completed by capturing wild pets without wasting gold.
  3. Pet Battles are not as fun as expected. - It's another archeology type grind to get a pet to level 25.
  4. Anyone can sell pets on any server. - There can be more competition from other servers listing on your server too.
  5. Wild pets can be better quality than the purchased non-rare pets. - Why buy a white pet, when you can get a green or blue one in the wild?
  6. Pre-Leveled Pets - Why buy a level 1 companion pet when you can buy a higher level Battle Pet?
There are plenty more possibilities as to why the value has crashed on the companion pets, but I wouldn't expect the value to return to where they were pre-MoP.  So this is more proof and more warnings to cut your losses because the companion pet market is no longer a good market to invest in.

Companion Pet Price Data Tables

Here are a few tables of data detailing the price drops for WoW companion Pets.  This is just a few of the major companion pet markets because I didn't want to bore you with a post with tons of tables in it, but the results are almost identical across all of the pet markets.  The holiday pets are far worse than any market though as some have lost 90% of their value already.  Squashlings were 8 gold the other day on my server!  I'm so glad I unloaded mine for 600-800 gold each a few months ago when I warned everyone to do the same!

Chart Data

Jun 1 - The average price across all servers on June 1st, 2012.
MoP - The average price across all servers on September 25th, the MoP launch date.
Now - The average price as of today or yesterday.
Change Since Jun 1 - The % change in price from June 1st.
Change Since MoP - The % change in price since MoP launched.
I chose June 1st as a baseline reference because it was one of the historical dates still archived on TUJ and it was near the beginning of summer.  Many of these pets saw an increase in price from the months leading up to MoP.  This most likely can be attributed to people stocking up on pets to flip as well as collector's filling out their pet rosters prior to the Battle Pet launch.  Normally this would have been a wise move, but as the data shows, stocking up early actually cost extra gold because almost every single pet is cheaper now.

Originally I thought the Dragon Whelpling Pets would have performed better since they are some of the best Battle Pets for pet battling, but they are seeing the same price drops as all of the other pets.

How screwed are you with these drops in prices?

Kite Pets - Not Just WoW TCG Loot Anymore

WoW Kite Pets
Not Just From WoW TCG Loot Codes Anymore

DRAGON KITE WOW TCG
Dragon Kite
The Dragon Kite and the Tuskarr Kite are just a sample of  the WoW companion pets obtained from loot codes from the WoW Trading Card Game.  Until the launch of Mists of Pandaria, these were the only 2 available Kite type companion pets in the World of Warcraft.  The Dragon Kite from the WoW loot code has always been quite popular and quite expensive as well.  The value and price of the Dragon Kite is sure to continue to climb as the WoW Patch 5.1 PTR Notes are listing that the Dragon Kite is going to become useable as a WoW Battle Pet after the new patch drops.  The Dragon Kite should become a rare battle pet, like all of the other WoW TCG companion pets that turn to rare battle pets.  So if you are lucky enough to find a Dragon Kite on your Black Market Auction House (BMAH), keep that in mind, as the value and re-sellability should vastly increase post Patch 5.1.

Enter The New Scribe Crafted Kites In MoP

In addition to the Tuskarr Kite and the Dragon Kite, we now have a new pair of Kite companion pets to add to our collection of companion pets.  Note, I didn't say battle pets, because neither of the new Kites are useable in Pet Battles.  The inability to be used in pet battles definately hurts their perceived value as they are only desired for their aesthetic value as non-combat battle pets.  Since the Dragon Kite is being added to the Battle Pet ranks, we can only hope the new MoP Inscription crafted Kites get similar treatment, which would greatly increase their value in the eyes of players.  Regardless, the new Kites do still sell.

Chi-ji Kite & Yu'lon Kite

The two new Scribe crafted Kite companion pets are the Chi-ji Kite and the Yu'lon Kite.  Both of these require just a single common parchament and 4 Ink of Dreams to craft.  They are made by Mists of Pandaria trained Scribes and require an Inscription level of 600 (max).  The recipe is learned from the Inscription trainer, so no special farming, grinding, or reputation is needed to start crafting these new MoP Kite pets.

Keep an eye out for new patch notes, in case the Yu'lon and Chi-ji Kites are to become Battle Pets as well.  If they are so lucky, then you may be able to snatch up a few for cheap to flip for a higher price once they become battle pets as well.

Timewalkers: War Of The Ancients Packs & Loot Cards

The new World of Warcraft Trading Card Game (WoW TCG) expansion has just released on October 2nd, 2012.  The newest expansion for the WoW TCG is the first part of the Timewalkers 3 part expansion block.  The first of the 3 part expansion block is called Timewalkers: War of the Ancients and of course it comes with 3 more WoW TCG loot cards with loot codes for sweet WoW TCG game pets, mounts, and vanity items.  Everyone loves WoW TCG in game loot and the booster packs make great stocking stuffers for gamers!
War Of The Ancients WoW TCG Loot Codes

The 3 new WoW TCG Loot codes that are possible to pull from the new War of the Ancient booster packs are:
  • WoW TCG Pet Card - Eye Of The Legion
  • WoW TCG Mount Code - Feldrake
  • Eye of the Legion Pet
  • WoW TCG Vanity Item Code - Demon Hunter's Aspect
The Eye of the Legion pet looks just like the green glowing Warlock summoned Eye of Killrogg.  These pets have been flying off the shelf.  Grab one before they are gone again! Buy Eye of the Legion Pet Now.

The Feldrake mount is the uber-rare from this expansion and is a standard drake model, but with an eerie fel green glow and tattered wings.  This one looks pretty sweet, especially for a Warlock character.  Only seen one for sale so far and it was gone the same day.

The Demon Hunter's Aspect is the vanity item of the set and it allows your character to appear as a Demon Hunter for 5 minutes.  You may recall the Demon Hunter Initiates at the Black Temple in Shadowmoon Valley.
