Firelands Dailies in Mount Hyjal | Maximizing Rage Against The Flame Choices

Firelands Dailies In Mount Hyjal

Within Mount Hyjal lies the Sanctuary of Malorne Firelands dailies quest hub.  The Sanctuary of Malorne Firelands quest hub will give you 3 Firelands dailies quests per day.  Completing these quests will earn you Marks of the World Tree and will help get you closer to unlocking your Firelands vendors.

Each day you will receive 3 of the daily quests.  1 is a set quest that you will get each day:  Protectors of Hyjal (with Mankrik and the others that assist you) that requires 6 kills at Sethria's Roost.  You also receive one of the 2 chain quests where you either gather birds, save bears from the trees, collect deer spirits, howl on corpses, or kick turtles into the water.  Each of these original quests is followed up by a quest to kill a summoned mini-boss.  The 3rd set of dailies will be one of the Rage Against the Flames quests (80% chance) or the easy quest to pick herbs (20% chance).  The Rage Against the Flames quests will require killing any of the mobs in the Mount Hyjal Regrowth or Sethria's Roost areas.  Depending on which Rage Against the Flames quest is the random Firelands Daily, you will have to kill 6, 7, 8, or 9 mobs in the area.

Maximizing Rage Against The Flames

Everyday your Firelands Daily quests in Mount Hyjal will require a minimum of 7 kills.  For mazimization purposes, we should research which of the remaining possible targets that can be killed for the quests that require extra kills, like Rage Against the Flames 8 & 9, as well as Perfecting Your Howl, which requires 10 kills and corpse howls.  On some days the 7 you must kill to complete your dailies will be all the killing you will need. Depending on the combination of random Firelands Dailies chosen, you may need to kill even more mobs.  Which of these mobs will be the better targets as far as loot tables go?

Rage Against The Flames Target Options
  • Brimstone Hound
  • Scarred Acolyte
  • Charred Invader
  • Flame Terror
  • Brimstone Destroyer
  • Charred Flamewaker
  • Firey Behemoth
  • Seething Pyrelord
  • Summoned Bosses from the 2 part daily quests chain
  • One of the 4 Elite Roaming Bosses
Every day you must kill the 6 at Sethria's Roost and the 1 summoned mini-boss, so that is the 7 minimum that will award you credit.  Based on their loot tables and gathering options, these are your choices.  Choose your extra targets based on your Professions and what material resources you would like to gather while completing your Firelands Dailies quest objectives for the Sanctuary of Malorne daily quest hub.

Are you a Skinner?  Brimstone Hounds can be skinned for Savage Leather, but they only drop vendor trash when looted.

Are you a Miner?  Seething Pyrelords at Sethria's Roost only drop vendor trash, but their corpses can be mined and can produce 2-3 Volatile Earth or 1-7 Elementium Ore.  You can often find un-mined corpses around the Sethria's Roost area that are yours for the scavenging.  Here is another great scavenging location in Mount Hyjal.

Are you a Tailor or are you after cloth?  Charred Flamewakers have a 29% chance to drop 1-4 Embersilk Cloth (ncludes Tailor's Cloth Scavenging bonus) and Scarred Acolytes have a 47% chance to drop 1-4 Embersilk Cloth.

Are you a Rogue?  Both Charred Flamewakers and Scarred Acolytes can be Pickpocketed for a chance at Flame-Scarred Junkboxes.

Are you after Volatile Fire?  4 mob options have a chance at dropping Volatile Fire.  They are Seething Pyrelords, Brimstone Destroyers, Flame Terrors, and Charred Invaders.

There you have it.  Choose your targets wisely based on your time commitment, which areas you are reqired to be in for the Firelands dailies that are randomly chosen, what Professions you have, and which possible items drops are most beneficial or profitable for you.  Then you can enter the orange portal and complete the Firelands Dailies within the Molten Front and continue unlocking the Druids of The Talon or The Shadow Wardens.

Chaos Orbs : To Sink Or Not To Sink? That Is The Question.

Chaos Orbs Are Still BOP

Chaos Orbs and Epic Crafting

There seems to be much discrepancy on how much a Chaos Orb should be valued at.  When Wes, R9sid9nt9vil, and I discussed what we thought that each Chaos Orb should be valued at, we settled on 1k gold for each Chaos Orb.  That was when the new Firelands vendors where just starting to become available to the players that had religiously completed their Firelands dailies.  If you were one of the first sellers of the new guns and epic weapons from the unlocked Firelands vendors, then you could easily earn over 1k per Chaos Orb.  Now the markets are a lot more cutthroat as many more players have access to the new recipes and can craft the new weapons.

We came to that original 1000 gold value for each Chaos Orb based off of the demand surge for the new weapons and everything require to get a single Chaos Orb.  You can only get 1 per Heroic Dungeon run and we all know the horrors of PUGs and how often the PUG doesn't even make it to the end boss before disbanding and abandoning the instance.  So given the time commitment required to get a single Chaos Orb (much more when most weapon recipes take 5 Chaos Orbs), I still value my Chaos Orbs at 1000 gold each.
Farming for Chaos Orbs is one hell of a chore too, even as a tank or a healer.  This is more frustrating in a PUG, since I don't have a whole lot of luck in finding random groups that actually finish dungeons.  For some tips on Farming Chaos Orbs check out the post by Epidermuss of Wrags To Riches.

How Do I Get 1000 Gold Per Chaos Orb?

My server values each Chaos Orb at a measly 250 gold per Orb.  There are multiple players on my server that bark in trade chat that they have all of the new Firelands weapon recipes or the older recipes that require Chaos Orbs.  When they bark, they ask for your materials and 250 gold per Chaos Orb.  250 gold per Chaos Orb isn't worth it to me, so I continue to value mine at 1000 gold per Chaos Orb.  How do I get 1000 gold per Chaos Orb when others are barking and valuing them at 250 gold?  I don't allows players to bring me materials and then charge a fee per Chaos Orb required because they don't expect to pay more than 250 gold.  I strictly craft the items outright and sell them on the World of Warcraft auction house.  This strategy brings in far more than 250 gold per orb because the prices are not negotiable.

You want to be careful when crafting ahead because you will be sinking your Chaos Orbs into an item when you go ahead and craft one to toss up on the auction house in WoW.  When crafting by catering to special orders from players, you avoid sinking your Chaos Orbs into a finished product.  This gives you much more flexibility in how you use your Chaos Orbs, but you are subject to the current market value on your server's trade chat.  By crafting an item and posting it on the auction house, you can control the buyout price of the item, thus controlling your Chaos Orb's value.

What are Chaos Orbs valued at on your WoW server?

Are you able to earn more per Chaos Orb by crafting items outright or by working for material and a fee per Orb?

Profiting From Mankrik & The Protectors of Hyjal

Make Gold With Mankrik & Protectors of Hyjal
The Protectors Of Hyjal

The Protectors of Hyjal is one of the Firelands Dailies quests.  The Protectors of Hyjal quest is one of the first quests you receive as it is one of the repeatable Firelands Dailies that is started and takes place in the Mount Hyjal zone of World of Warcraft.  This quest was added to WoW during Patch 4.2 and the Firelands Invasion.  During the Protectors of Hyjal quest, you are required to kill multiple elementals at Sethria's Roost in Mount Hyjal.

While on this quest, as soon as you enter the Sethria's Roost area you will be joined by some NPCs (Non-Player Characters).  You will be joined by 3 Protectors of Hyjal (Druids) and 1 named NPC from within the World of Warcraft.  See the below list for the possible NPCs that will assist you in Sethria's Roost.  These NPCs will continue to follow you and will assist you in all combat while in the Sethria's Roost area of Mount Hyjal.  If you lean Sethria's Roost, they will disappear.  If you return to Sethria's Roost, they will return to assist you again.

The Protectors of Hyjal NPCs
  • Earthmender Norsala
  • Hemet Nesingwary
  • Linken
  • King Mrgl-Mrgl
  • High Warlord Cromush
  • Choluna
  • Russel Brower
  • Nat Pagle
  • Mankrik
  • Chromie
  • Lunk
  • Mog'ogg the Wizened
  • Broll Bearmantle
  • Jonny Awesome
  • Budd
  • Gurgthock
  • Tony Two-Tusk,
  • Hobart Grapplehammer
  • Fleet Master Seahorn
  • Thassarian
  • Calder Gray
  • The Leaper
  • Gidwin Goldlocks
  • Theldurin the Lost
Have...Have We Met?

One of the requirements for the Veteran Of The Molten Front achievement (and the Flamebreaker title) is to complete the Have...Have We Met? achievement.  Have...Have We Met? requires you to locate and /wave at 6 of the various random NPCs that can be found assisting you or other players at Sethria's Roost.  The 6 Protectors of Hyjal that are required for Have...Have We Met? are:
  • Linken
  • Nat Pagle
  • Mankrik
  • Chromie
  • Thassarian
  • Hemet Nesingwary
For completing the achievement, you just have to find each of these 6 NPCs and do a /wave command while targeting each one in Sethria's Roost.  You can target NPCs that follow you or NPCs that follow another player.

Profiting Off Of The Protectors of Hyjal

Profiting off of The Protectors of Hyjal is pretty simple and straightforward.  Everyone working on the achievements will need to wave at each of the 6 NPCs listed above.  Since each NPC is randomly determined once per day when you start the quest, there are players that will be searching for that 1 last NPC for days.  These players will pay a nice tip or fee, if you happen to have the final NPC that they need to complete the achievement.  I have been taking fees and tips for "showing my NPCs" for weeks now.  Your NPC will only be determined once per day per character when you first start the Protectors of Hyjal daily quest.  If you happen to receive one of the 6 NPCs required for the achievement, then you are in luck.

  1. If you get one of the 6 NPCs, then you can try to make some gold from your luck.
  2. Complete your daily quests for the Sethria's Roost and keep the quest active.  Do Not Turn in the quest or you lose your chance at making gold.  As long as the quest isn't turned in and your NPC has been set, you can charge people to land in Sethria's Roost and whip out your NPC.
  3. Leave the Sethria's Roost area so that your NPC disappears.
  4. Send out a bark in the Hyjal Area letting other players know which NPC you have and how much you are charging to display him for the other player to wave at.
  5. Enter the Molten Core and bark again.
  6. Visit a major city and bark again.
  7. Return to Mount Hyjal, collect your fees, then return to Sethria's Roost so your paying customers can get their /waves.
Mankrik : Shake Your Money Maker

Mankrik seems to be the rarest of all of the NPCs and can fetch a higher fee than the others in my observations.  Even if you just send out a few barking notifications while you are in Hyjal, you can make some tips and fees off of the other NPCs.  If you get Mankrik though, you can charge a nice fee as a lot of players will pay just to be done with the achievement and not have to worry about hunting down Protectors of Hyjal anymore.  OR at least until their next alt has to come and they are looking to finish the achievement even faster and are more willing to pay for each of the NPC Protectors of Hyjal.

Firelands Dailies: Got My Flameward Hippogryph Mount. Now What?

Flameward Hippogryph - Firelands Dailies Reward

Firelands Dailies Completed

I have finished all of the quests associated with the Firelands Invasion Dailies that were added in WoW Patch 4.2.  I am now the owner of a new mount, the Flameward Hippogryph.  The Flameward Hippogryph is your reward for completing the Cataclysm achievement The Molten Front Offensive.  The Molten Front Offensive achievement requires you to unlock each of the phased vendors and complete all of the quest chains, then you are rewarded with the Flameward Hippogryph mount.  In my opinion this mount is ugly, but it still counts towards the Mountain of Mounts achivement.  So I'm happy with it.  My question is now what do I do?

What To Do Now That Firelands Dailies Are Completed?

Flamebreaker Title
Well, there is the Flamebreaker title that can be earned once you complete the achievement Veteran of the Molten Front.  Many of the achievement requirements will already have been completed once you have finished unlocking all of the vendors and all of the quest phased areas of the Molten Front.  Finishing off the left over achievement requirements will require completing more of the daily quests, which will continue to reward you with Marks of the World Tree.

Zen'Vorka's Cache - Scorched Stone Pet
Continuing on to complete even more Firelands Dailies for the achievements and title will lead to the accumulation of extra Marks of the World Tree.  While these where originally used for unlocked the various quest phases, once everything is unlocked there isn't much use for the extra Marks of the World Tree.  There is a vendor named Zen'Vorka located within the Molten Front that will trade you 1 Zen'Vorka's Cache for 30 Marks of the World Tree.  You can also raise reputations by buying the various Writs of Commendation, which award 250 reputation to a major city, but by this point you probably don't need reputation with your faction's major cities.
Scorched Stone WoW Companion Pet
Inside the Zen'Vorka's Cache you will find a random piece of Cataclysm gear or an Elementium Lockbox with a piece of random Cataclysm gear inside.  If you get lucky, you could also find a Scorched Stone, which awards a companion pet.  This miniature fire elemental vanity pet should serve to remind you of all of the elementals you have to kill while completing all of the beginning Firelands Dailies over and over.

Zen'Vorka's Cache is an option for getting something for all of the extra Marks of the World Tree that you will collect while wrapping up your achievements or farming for your Scorched Stone companion pet.  Outside of those 2 reasons for collecting Marks of the World Tree, I can so no reason to continue farming the Marks of the World Tree just to get more Zen'Vorka's Cache, or as they should be named: Zen'Vorka's Disenchanting Trash.  So don't waste any more time that you have to collecting extra Marks of the World Tree.

What Am I Going To Do?

It's time to break out my crafting alts that haven't unlocked the appropriate vendors so they can start crafting the new epic items and the new bags introduced on the phased Firelands vendors.  My blacksmith is currently on phase 2 of the Firelands Dailies and my bag crafters haven't even started the Firelands daily quests yet.  So I have plenty more elemental slaying, seed planting, mob bombing, spider killing, wound bandaging, bird flying, turtle kicking fun ahead of me.  Oh, joy!

Anyone else sick of these dang Firelands daily quests?  Now watch Blizzard make unlocking all of the Firelands Daily phases a requirement for the next round of incoming content.

New Firelands Vendors Offer Auctioning Opportunities

The Firelands Vendors

Now that players are moving past the initial Firelands Daily quests and have unlocked both the Druids of the Talon and the Shadow Wardens quests, many WoW players are moving onto unlocking the new Firelands vendors with their Marks of the World Tree.  Once you have spent the 300 Marks of the World Tree on unlocking both the Druids of the Talon and the Shadow Wardens, you will need 125 more Marks to open each of the next 3 phases.  Each complete quest takes the 125 Marks and unlocks 1 new Molten Front vendor that was previously locked behind phasing.

Phasing Quests and Unlocking Vendors
In addition to offering profession recipes and vanity companions and vanity items, these vendors all 3 offer epic gear.  Many players will be purchasing these epic gear upgrades as soon as each vendor is unlocked.  We want to be able to fully capitalize on this easy to acquire epic gear.  Players will unlock these vendors, buy the gear, then go straight to the auction house to enhance their new gear with belt buckles, enchants, gems and other items.  Let's take a look at what type of gear is available from these vendors and what we should be selling on the auction house to associate with this gear.

Varlan sells mail agility boots, Rogue / Druid leather gloves, and 2 relics.
Damek sells Shaman Boots, Holy Paladin gloves, cloth caster gloves, 3 belts, and plate tanking bracers.
Ayla sells a caster off-hand and 2 relics.

So in total we will be seeing an influx of the following enhanceable items:
  • 4 Relics
  • 1 Caster off-hand
  • Tank bracers
  • 2 Boots (1 Hunter and 1 Shaman)
  • 3 Belts
  • 3 Gloves (1 Rogue / Hunter, 1 Holy Pally, 1 Cloth Caster)
How To Be Prepared On The AH

You want to be providing the common enchants that are going to be added onto these new easily acquired epic item upgrades as well as be fully stocked on the varous gem cuts as many of these items have gem sockets to fill.  One thing I can't stress enough, is providing as many Nightmare's Tear prismatic gems as you can.  All of the Relics contain a prismatic socket and a lot of players still think you need to buy a prismatic gem for a prismatic socket.  I simply cannot find enough Dragon's Eye's to meet the Nightmare Tear demand, even with them selling for 275-300 gold each.  They don't last longer than an hour or so before they are sold out.  Stock up on Ebonsteel Belt Buckles if they are still profitable on your server as there are the 3 epic belts available from these vendors also.  The scrolls +50 Int to an off-hand could also see a slight increase in sales.  Stock up on your standard caster glove enchants and for the Rogue / Hunter glove option don't forget the Wrath Enchant for +20 Agi to gloves.  +50 Dodge and +50 Str both to bracers have also been selling like hotcakes with the easy to obtain tanking bracers available from the Firelands vendors.  Lavawalker to boots is another big mover right now as I am selling 2-3 a night easy.  So take a look at what enchants and enhancements you can create and get to profitting off of all of these vendor bought upgradeable gear.

Patch 4.2 WoW Embersilk Cloth Farming Spot

Solar Core Embersilk Farming
Farming Embersilk Cloth With The Shadow Wardens Daily Quests

While completing my daily quests for the Shadow Wardens, I stumbled upon an awesome location for farming the Cataclysm cloth tailoring material - Embersilk Cloth.  How awesome?  So many corpses I couldn't loot them all between respawns awesome!  Tell me now!  Where?  Where?

The Solar Core

This awesome Embersilk Cloth farming spot is located at the solar core within the Widow's Clutch in the Molten Front.  The solar core is the target of the Shadow Wardens daily quest Solar Core Destruction.  The solar core is located in the Northern area of the Widow's Clutch past the spiders and the rocky outcroppings holding the spiderweb cocoons.  It is easy to find the solar core.  Just look for the glowing orb surrounded by flame channeling Druids of the Flame (as seen in the above image).

Druids of the Flame

Our Embersilk Cloth farming targets are the Druids of The Flame that surround the solar core.  There are 4 Druids of the Flame respawn locations directly around the solar core.  These 4 flame channeling Druids of the Flame are packed close together and respawn rather quickly.  According to Wowhead, these Druids of the Flame at the Widow's Clutch have almost a 50% chance to drop 1-4 Embersilk Cloth when killed and looted.  Rogues are also able to pickpocket for Flame Scarred Junkboxes and Rogue's Draughts as these mobs are considered humanoids.  A near 50% drop rate is amazing on it's own, but the drops are stack sizes of 1-4.  A tailor farming here would be able to get even more cloth with the Cloth Scavenging bonus from the Tailoring Profession.

Solar Core Destruction

What makes this spot so awesome is not only the awesome drop rates and the quick respawn time, but the Solar Core Destruction quest itself.  All you have to do to complete this easy Shadowlands Daily quest is run past all of the druids surrounding the solar core and click on the solar core orb.  It takes just a few seconds to finish the action of destroying the core.  As soon as you blow up the solar core, you are instantly blasted into the air and you land on top of one of the rocky outcroppings in the Widow's Clutch.  This breaks combat with all of the Druids of the Flame that were chasing you on your way to the solar core.  You are free to then jump down and return to camp to turn in your Shadow Wards quest and collect your Marks of the World Tree.

Here's the awesome part.  Many players already know that they can just aggro any number of druids and run right up to the solar core, destroy it, and then get blasted to safety.  When farming for the Embersilk Cloth off of the Druids of the Flame, you can set up camp right near the solar core orb itself.  Then you can proceed to kill the 4 channeling Druids of the Flame.  As players on the Solar Core Destruction quest coming running up to you, they will have a train of Druids following them that you can quickly attack to get aggro.  So you have an ideal farming spot where there are 4 closely packed druids and druids wandering around the perimeter.  Combined with all of the free trains of Druid mobs coming at you from the other kiting players and you have an amazingly awesome spot for easy Embersilk Cloth farming.

Profiting On Volatile Earth and Fire Market Crash

Volatile Earth and Volatile Fire Markets are Down...Way Down

Right now the prices of both Volatile Fire and Volatile Earth are nice and low.  This is a direct result of the increased influx of Volatiles from players completing their Firelands Invasion daily quests.  Tons of players getting lots of extra Volatile Earth and Volatile Fire leads to a supply overload and market saturation.  As always, market saturation is followed by a drop in prices of the Volatile Fire and Volatile Earth.

Further compounding the increased influx of Volatile Fire and Volatile Earth are the players that are maximizing the Firelands starter quests for extra Volatiles and getting extra Volatiles from Druids of the Talon quests.  If you are doing the Firelands Invasion daily quests over and over every day, why not maximize the quests to get the most Volatile raw materials you can each and every day, while completing the daily quests you were going to be doing daily anyway?

How To Profit From Cheap Volatile Earth and Fire

With the drop in prices of both Volatile Fire and Volatile Earth, we can take advantage of the lower production cost of many items.  Volatile Fire and Volatile Earth are raw material components in many of the profitable markets.  The drop in prices of the raw materials equates to lower production costs.  Lower production costs mean either more profits (if you can continue to sell at the same end product selling prices) or an increased ability to battle and undercut in a new market.

This is one of the reason's you won't catch me stockpiling pre-crafted goods.  I only craft items prior to listing them on the auction house.  I do not mass craft expensive items ahead of time, because you never know when something will change in the World of Warcraft that will lead to a major price drop.  Anyone who stockpiled items crafted with Volatile Fire and Volatile Earth prior to the price drop has sunk more gold into the crafting cost of that item.  So someone new entering the market has cheaper crafting costs than their pre-crafted sunk costs, which means the new entrant can be more competitive with their pricing.

Below is a listing of some of the profitable markets that include Volatile Earth and Volatile Fire.  I would look into these markets on your server and calculate how much profit is to be made.  Many of these markets are still enjoying higher prices (probably due to market veterans trying to keep the prices up since they may have sunk costs and are used to a higher production cost) and are prime for moving in as a bottom feeder, undercutting below the lowest priced craftables.

Volatile Fire
  • Bloodthirsty PvP Plate, Mail, Cloth, and Leather
  • PvP Jewelry - Bloodthirsty Sapphire Necklace, Ring of Warring Elements
  • Leg Armors - Charscale Leg Armor, Scorched Leg Armor, Enchanted Spellthread
  • Dreamcloth (Dream of Ragnaros) - Cheaper than Volatile Life version on some servers.
  • Truegold Transmuting
  • Once unlocked, new epic gear and weapons.
Volatile Earth
  • Drakehide Leg Armor (The new tanking leg armor)
  • PvP Jewelry - Bloodthirsty Ruby Signet, Bloodthirsty Ruby Choker
  • Bloodthirsty Fur Cloak
  • Dreamcloth (Dream of Deepholme)
  • Ebonsteel Belt Buckle
  • Elementium Toolbox
  • Hardened Obsidium Gear - Tanking Gear for levelers
  • Punisher's Band
  • Once unlocked, the new Triple-Reinforced Mining Bags
  • Hardened Elementium Bars
  • Enchant Bracer - Major Strength (+50 Str)
The list doesn't stop here.  Especially when looking at Dreamcloth and Hardened Elementium Bars, as these are intermediate crafting materials.  Anything else that can be crafted from either of these items, can also be crafted for cheaper with the new lower raw material Volatile costs.

How are you profiting off of the new lower priced Volatile Earth and Volatile Fire?
Any new markets or strategies?

Druids of The Talon Daily Quests Farming

Druids Of The Talon Quests
The Druids of The Talon Chain

You will choose either Druids of The Talon or Shadow Wardens, which will lock you into your second phase of the Firelands Invasion daily quests in the Molten Front.  When you unlock the Druids of the Talon quest chains, you are in for a completely different experience than compared to the Shadow Wardens daily quests.  While the Shadow Wardens will have you killing Cinderweb Spiders and Druids of the Flame, the Druids of The Talon daily quest hub leads you into the battle against Elementals and the Flamewakers.

The Flamewakers

The Flamewaker minions are considered Humanoids and have a hefty 52% chance to drop 1-4 Embersilk Cloth.  The Druids of the Talon Firelands daily quest chain will have you fighting Flamewaker Sentinals, Flamewaker Shaman, and Flamewaker Hunters.  All 3 of these Flamewaker mobs can be pickpocketted for a chance at Flame-Scarred Junkboxes.  So these would be prime targets for farming Embersilk Cloth, especially if you are a Tailor or a Rogue.  The Rogue could benefit from the pickpocket ability and the Flame Scarred Junkboxes.  The Tailor would benefit from the Cloth Scavenging Tailoring profession bonus.  The underground caves where the quests lead you are an excellent spot for farming Embersilk Cloth.  Bonus points for a Tailoring Rogue.  The spawn rate is very fast at the current time, so many kills can be piled up quickly.  Even if you are just here for the Druids of the Talon daily quests, you can collect a decent amount of Embersilk Cloth.

The Elementals

The Obsidium Punishers are another nice farming option for a Mining character.  Maybe one of your Ideal Alts has the Mining gathering profession and is working on his Firelands Invasion daily quests.  This is a great spot to farm up some Volatile Earth.  Any Obsidium Punisher gives a 15% chance of containing 1-3 Volatile Earths on its corpse.  You will fight a bunch of these on your way up the mountain to take the temperatures of the lava pools and kill Firehawks for the Druids of The Talon daily quests.

These Obsidium Punishers are stone Elementals are their corpses can be mined by a Miner.  When mined, they have a 9% chance to award 1-3 Volatile Earths and a 5% chance to award 1-7 Elementium Ore.  Why are Obsidium Punishers crumbling into Elementium Ore?  Even though the Druids of The Talon daily quests may require the killing of 5 Firehawks, they are duds other than for the quest.  They drop nothing worthwhile, just grey vendor trash.

Just like the Land of Free Volatile Earth in Mt. Hyjal, this is another area in World of Warcraft where you may just happen upon a ton of corpses from other players completing the Druids of the Talon daily quests.  Often times there may be no other miner around and these free corpses will be yours for the taking.  Another bonus is that these mobs also count for the Jewelcrafting Daily quest to slay Elementals.

I've already discussed how to maximize the Firelands Starting Daily Quests.  Make sure to use both helpful guides in order to be fully efficient.

Screw Inferno Rubies, I'm Stockpiling Dream Emeralds

The Race Towards New 4.2 Recipes

While many of my alts are still stuck at the starting line, even though they were well prepared and ready to race alts, my main is towards the front of the racing pack.  As you may have heard Wes (of Cappedbycata.com) and I discussing on a past episode of The Auction House Junkies Gold Making Podcast, I chose to race for the new patterns with my main character.  Since Cold is an Engineer, that means I'm racing to be one of the first sellers of  the new Engineering items from Patch 4.2.  Cold has advanced past the first phase of Firelands Invasion Dailies and has picked Shadows Wardens over Druids of the Talon.  I am only 1 day off of the fastest speed possible and I continue to find just enough minimum playtime to get his daily quests from the Molten Front and the Regrowth completed each and every day.  I want to be one of the first sellers of the new gun, but my main focus is on hoping to bank heavily on the new scope, Flintlocke's Woodchucker.

Dream Emeralds

Dream Emeralds sell horribly on my server.  I think the majority of them have been sold to vendors prior to the price drops on gems.  When they appear raw and uncut on the auction house, the prices can be pretty low.  I have been scooping these cheaply prices Dream Emeralds up because the demand for them is about to explode.  Once the new scopes are craftable on your server, you can expect those Dream Emeralds to be much harder to find.  So stock up now, while the short-sighted players haven't been planning ahead.

Why I Am Stockpiling Dream Emeralds

  • The new Flintlocke's Woodchucker scopes each require 2 Dream Emeralds to craft.
  • Every single hunter out there will be buying a new scope or having one crafted.
  • Tons of scopes will sell to mains and every alt hunter.
  • This recipe does NOT require any BOP items to craft.
  • The raw Dream Emerald price will rise as some players look to buy the materials and have the item crafted by an Engineer.  You did learn about supplying both purchasers and shoppers right?
The biggest benefit of racing with my Engineer first is that the biggest money maker (Flintlocke's Woodchucker) requires zero Living Embers and zero Chaos Orbs.  All of the other new weapon patterns do require Living Elements Chaos Orbs, which is going to be a major choking point for mass crafting of the new weapons.  Even worse is the dreamcloth chokepoint for the bags, since they are still BOP and take a full week to make.  Most people would probably pick Blacksmithing first, since there are so many options with the new recipes.  I think that as an Engineer, I will have much more profits before the Blacksmith is even able to create a handful of items to sell.  Plus Engineering is the least used profession, which helps limit the competition and opens up a better selling opportunity.

So Many Firelands Dailies, So Little Quest Time

Firelands Daily Quest Grinding

The wait for the Firelands Patch and the inclusion of the new daily quests in Patch 4.2 stirred up much anticipation.  I had been grinding those last few levels on my main crafters.  I had leveled a 5th character to maximum level and had my main and 4 alt characters ready to race for the new craftable patterns.  I started out with my main character, Colddrawn the Engineer, who was racing for the new Engineering patterns added in Patch 4.2.  By the time I started advancing my second racer, my Blacksmith, I had already figured out how to maximize the Firelands Invasion daily quests.  I had huge plans on advancing both my Tailors and my Leatherworker as well, but I ran into a rut.  I just don't have the time to run all of these dailies with all of my alts.  Why is Blizzard making it so much harder for those of use with armies of crafting alts?

Currently my main is the only one completing the quests every day.  I am so busy with work and my blogging projects, that I often get to log in to do my dailies on my main and then I'm logging off.  Luckily I haven't missed but the very first day of the Patch 4.2 quests, so I'm not far behind at all with my Engineer.  I am looking forward to the end of summer when I will not be stuck working 50+ hours a week covering vacations and late night shifts.  And by the end of summer the school kids will be returning to class and the markets will be much calmer.  Hell, I'm not even posting hardly anything on the auction house these past couple of weeks, where my work hours ended up over 60+ for a single week.

What I am doing is stockpiling Dream Emeralds.

Anyone want to figure out why I am stockpiling those crappy rare green Cata gems?

Maximizing Your Firelands Daily Quests

Firelands Dailies In The Molten Front

Have you been preparing to profit from the unlockable vendors added with the Firelands Patch 4.2?  We had prepared our profession crafters and got them ready to race for Patch 4.2 and the new recipes for Blacksmithing, Engineering, Leatherworking, and Tailoring.  Then the Firelands Patch 4.2 dropped and the race to reach those recipes faster than our competition had began.  That race currently continues as players are collecting their Marks of the World Tree and preparing for their first choice of unlocking Druids of The Talon or Shadow Wardens.

Maximizing Your Choices

The new Firelands daily quests require daily attention and we are forced to spend some of our playtime on collecting the Marks of the World Tree.  If we are racing with multiple profession crafting alts, then the time commitment can get hefty, even with the best and fastest route to completion.  Since we will be repeating the same general groups of quests over and over, it is a wise idea to look at what options are the most profitable.

You may have noticed that you have collected a few Volatiles while completing your daily quests for the Firelands.  The direct choices that you make in picking your targetted quest mobs will affect how many Volatiles you can recieve each day while doing your daily quests.  So why not choose the best options each and every time, since we have to do this same quests over and over?  I decided to dig a little deeper and loot at drop rates for the various mobs that can be chosen to complete a couple of the Firelands quests.

Hostile Elements
The quest Hostile Elements in the Molten Front is one of the Firelands daily quests that does not rotate.  This quest is available every day, but the choices you make can limit your potential earnings while fulfilling the quest requirements.  Hostile Elements requires you to kill 8 Charred Combatants, which can be either Charred Vanquishers or Charred Soldiers.

Charred Vanquishers or Charred Soldiers?
Charred Vanquishers have a chance to drop 1-3 Volatile Fire when killed.  Wowhead.com shows the drop rate as a 27% chance per kill to award 1-3 Volatile Fire, while the loot table for Charred Soldier shows only grey items.  Captain Obvious says, "Don't waste time and effort killing Charred Soldiers, only kill Charred Vanquishers, so you can collect Volatile Fires.

Hostile Elements Quest Kill Options
Take Away
Ok, so this may be a simple tip, but did you research the options yourself?  Or have you been wandering around willy-nilly killing whatever you can to be done and get your Firelands daily quests over with?  The real point to take away from this is that you should develop an inquisitive mindset.  You should research your options to best maximize your earnings potentials.  That is what making gold and being efficient is all about - maximing your options and getting the most profit for the least amount of work.  Hey that's also the Generation X motive (I'm an Xer too)!

Mine My Corpse For Free Loots

Molten Behemoths and Free Volatile Earth

Another easy source of sellable crafting materials comes from the Molten Behemoths.  These mobs are in the surrounding areas and on specific dailies when their quest is one of the random daily quests even more are swarming the base in the Molten Front.  They only have grey items on their loot tables, but the real bonus comes from mining these giant corpses.  Wowhead.com shows their loot table from mining the corpse to have a 19% chance to gather 2-3 Volatile Earths and a 9% chance to collect 1-5 Elementium Ores.  Just like the Land of Free Volatile Earths, you can scavenge the area where these are killed and collect free Volatile Earths and Elementium Ores with your miner.  This is especially easy on the days that the Molten Behemoths are multiplied due to their daily quest triggered as one of the Firelands dailies.
