You may recall me discussing Reign of Fire with Rez and Nonmail on The Eviscerated Gaming Podcast Episode # 53 - "Party Pooper".  This WoW TCG expansion is highly anticipated by World of Warcraft players because of two awesome things:

  1. Every WoW Loot Card ever created in the previous WoW TCG sets will be included in Reign of Fire!
  2. The drops rates of all loot cards has been increased so you have better chances to get loot code cards!
The drop rate of the rare cards alone has been doubled and the common and uncommon cards have had their drop rates increased significantly as well.  So you now have even better chances to pull one of the awesome loot cards like the Spectral Kitten, Spectral Tiger Mounts, Feldrake or any of the other cool WoW loot codes.

Gifts For Gamers: JVC Xtreme-Xplosivs Headphones (My Favorites)

Gifts For Gamers:

JVC Xtreme-Xplosivs In Ear Headphones

Everyone needs a pair of good quality headphones.  Whether you are listening to music, playing video games, using Skype on your smartphone, or listening to your favorite podcasts (like Eviscerated or Electronic Education), you should have a nice sounding, durable pair of headphones.

After getting my iPhone, I needed to replace the next to no bass response basic iPhone earbuds asap.  I searched long and hard for a pair of heavy hitting bass response earbuds that were affordable and had a durable build to them.  After a lot of comparing, pricing, and reading owner comments, I settled on a pair of JVC Xtreme Xplosivs Earbud Headphones and I have never been more satisfied with my decision.

I highly recommend the Xtreme Xplosivs by JVC.  The highs, mids, and bass all sound excellent.  They are super durable with nice thick cords, have plenty of cord length, and are very comfortable to wear.  If you enjoy bass heavy music or bass gaming explosions then these are truly awesome headphones for under $20! Many reviewers even stated that these are better than Beats by Dre and for a tiny fraction of the price of those over-hyped Beats.  I've gotta say if you bought Beats by Dre then you got suckered and coulda had the same thing (if not better) for $20 instead of $200.  Sorry R9z!

Xtreme-Xplosives by JVC
(Not as huge as they look)

These headphones are the best earbuds that I have ever owned.  I'm so happy with my purchase that I've referred them on to other gamers and music fans as well.  Nic (@BoneandArrow13), from the earlier episodes of Eviscerated, purchased a pair off of my recommendation and this is what he has to say about the JVC Xtreme-Xplosivs that he also purchased:

The JVC Xtreme-Xplosives are an awesome set of headphones. I have been happy with them since day one. The best thing about this set of headphones is that they get better with time. The bass starts to get better as more hours of music are put through these headphones. I am glad that I found such a great pair of headphones for such a small amount of money. Although they look kind of clunky in the pictures, they are extremely light and feel great once they are put in your ears. I was surprised a lot by this; I couldn’t believe that these were so light. Another thing is these headphones just look plain awesome when you wear them. If you want something with great bass at an affordable price then look no further than the JVC Xtreme-Xplosives!

You can also now get them in a variety of colors and can also get them with or without and in-line microphone.  Check out all the Xtreme Xplosives options on Amazon.

Cold's Gold Blogging Carnival Announcement

Anouncement

Cold's Gold Blogging Carnivals Are Moving To A New Home

Recently I have been writing very few posts regarding anything to do with World of Warcraft.  If you listen to The Eviscerated Gaming Podcast, then it's no secret that I'm just not playing much World of Warcraft these days.  I've been playing WoW since before the very first patch 1.1, so yeah, after this long it is getting old, boring, repetative, and lame.  Over the past 3+ years, I've poured my heart and soul into this blog, but lately I've had very little desire to write about a game that I am starting to loathe.  I find myself focusing more and more on my other passions as WoW falls by the wayside.  My car has finally died and is now in the junkyard, so my time is even more limited than before.  I am relying on public transportation for all of my travels, so my free time is even more valuable to me.  So I choose to do things that I am more passionate about at this time, like playing with my Kontrol S2.

I've been putting my heart and soul into Eviscerated, the Electronic Education DJ segments on Eviscerated, and more recently my own solo project, The Electronic Education Podcast, which is available on iTunes & Stitcher Radio.   These projects have been much more enjoyable than blogging about making gold in Warcraft over and over again.  I've written almost 800 posts on this blog and to tell the truth, there just isn't much new to say about making gold in World of Warcraft.  I'm not going to be like some other gold bloggers and re-hash old content, steal ideas from others, or write fluff posts just as filler.  That's just not my style.  I will continue to post occasionally if a fresh idea strikes me, but at this point the gold blog posts will be few and far between.

Passing The Torch On The Blogging Carnival

The Cold's Gold Blogging Carnivals here on the site have been a great success and a key feature in helping share traffic with other bloggers within the gold blog-o-sphere.  Because of the community nature and the assistance the gold blogging carnival provides for newer bloggers, I would hate to see it become extinct.  Therefore, today I am announcing a new host for the Gold Blogging Carnivals, who will carry on with the monthly topics and hosting of the monthly carnival submissions starting with releasing the topic for next month.

The new Gold Blogging Carnivals will now be hosted by Selltacular over on his blog, Copper To Gold.  I am officially passing the torch on to Selltacular, so be sure to check his site for future blogging carnival topics and compilations.  He should have a carnival topic post up shortly and will appreciate the support with the new carnivals.

Thanks for the great participation in the Gold Blogging Carnivals while they were housed here at Cold's Gold Factory over the years, but it is time to send them to a new home.

More info can be found in his new post: New Host Of Cold's Gold Blogging Carnivals.

Robes of Arcana - Gone, But Not Forgotten

Robes of Arcana - Long Gone, But Not Forgotten

For this month's topic for the Gold Blogging Carnivals at Cold's Gold Factory, I've decided on the topic of obsolete markets from the past.  More specifically, we are looking into great gold making auction house markets from the past that are no longer profitable and what we can learn from those old markets.  I'm focusing on one of my old school favorite niche markets, the market for the now obsolete: Robes of Arcana.

The Old Robes of Arcana Niche

The Robes of Arcana market was a wonderful gold making market for my Tailor for years!  Why was it so profitable?  The Robes of Arcana was craftable by Tailors and was required for a 7 part Warlock only quest chain.  The Tailor crafted item was in demand because not all Warlocks are Tailors, which means not all Warlocks could craft the item for themselves.  Better yet, even if you were a Tailor you still probably couldn't craft your own Robes of Arcana because the recipe was a rare drop (Less than 1% drop rate) off of only 3 specific types of mobs in Azeroth.  The 7 part quest chain that required the Robes during one of the quests ended with a nice blue chest piece quest reward.  The quest was level 31, but the rewarded Enchanted Gold Bloodrobe was a level 38 item with very nice stats (+17 Int / +10 Sta).  Anyone with twinking experience or experience Enchanting twink gear should immediately see a nice benefit already since this item attainable at lower levels could hold much more powerful chest enchants.

So combine a quest required item needed to get an overpowered piece of gear, along with a rare recipe drop, and twinking potential and you've got the recipe for a nice money maker.  Now add in the fact that the Robes of Arcana also required 2 Spider's Silk (always in high demand and low supply) in the recipe (4 Bolts of Silk Cloth & 2 Fine Thread as well) and you've got plenty of reasons to jack the price up sky high for a real nice profit.

Of course I had my own recipe, as it was always in my snatch list along with Spider Silk, and I also bought other copies just to keep them out of the hands of other Tailors who might compete with me.   I would craft the Robes of Arcana for a crafting cost of 10-20 gold each and sell them all day long for 75 gold, which was a hefty price back in Vanilla WoW.  I got away with selling tons of these with nearly non-existant competition all the way up to The Shattering just before the Cataclysm launch when both the recipe and the quest chain were removed from the game.

What Can We Learn?

World of Warcraft is an ever evolving and growing game.  Things are constantly changing being changed, added or removed from the game.  The Robes of Arcana saw the same fate that a lot of the profession crafted items did as Blizzard started to make a change that still irks me to this day.  There used to be a lot of items that were required for quest turn ins that were only available from other characters and their crafting professions.  Check out this post I did in July of 2010 where I listed most of the profession crafted items that were required for quest turns ins: Master Quest Craftables List.   Sure aren't many items left on that list worth crafting anymore as most of the related quests have been removed from the game.

I really enjoyed the cross dependence among the player base on your server because if you needed one of these items you had to either craft it yourself, find a guild member with the pattern, or hunt for the item in the trade channel or on the WoW auction house.  This helped to established continued markets for lower level items and lower skilled crafters could easily make gold on the auction house too.  Without more of these lower level niche markets we've got most crafters stuck in the same markets on the higher skill ends of profession crafting along with everyone else.

The removal of requiring profession crafted items for quests is just one piece of the dumbing down and simplifying of the game to make it easier for beginners.  As the game gets easier, unfortunately so does our options for viable crafting niche markets.

Bring back quest required crafted items, Blizzard!

April 2013 Gold Blogging Carnival Topic

This month let's take a look back through time and pull out some niche markets that use to be great, but are no longer viable markets.  By looking back at the past, there are always  lessons to be learned that can be applied to the present and the future.  We've all got old niche markets that used to be awesome markets, but are now worthless.  So for this months gold blogging carnival, let's look at a specific niche market from the past.  Dig into what the market was, why it was a good market back then, why it is no longer a viable market, and what can we learn or apply to auction house tactics today.

Name one of your historically profitable markets that is now defunct and what can we learn from that old market.

Darkmoon Faire Post 5.2 Offers Chance At Free Pets & Vanity Items

The Darkmoon Faire Prize Ticket Change

While I was working on the shownotes for the next episode of The Eviscerated Gaming Podcast, I ran across the Patch 5.2 Undocumented Changes.  There are some nice changes that haven't been disclosed in the official Patch 5.2 notes, including changes to the Darkmoon Faire Prize Ticket System.  Remember in Patch 5.1, when they changed the production of Imperial Silk to Silk Cocoon, which gave a chance to get pets when crafting Imperial Silk?  Well, they've done something similar with the Darkmoon Faire ticket rewards.

Check out all of the Undocumented Patch 5.2 Changes at this source.

New Darkmoon Game Prize

With WoW Patch 5.2, the non-profession daily quests at the Darkmoon Faire now each award a Darkmoon Game Prize instead of just a single Darkmoon Faire Prize Ticket.  The Darkmoon Game Prize is a container that will always include your 1 Darkmoon Faire Prize Ticket, but also has a chance to contain once of the Darkmoon Faire Pets or one of the newly added Darkmoon Faire Vanity Items!

The non-profession quests are simply the 5 daily quests of playing games at the Darkmoon Faire.  The quests that now award the Darkmoon Game Prize (and your chance at bonus pets and vanity items) are:
  1. He Shoots, He Scores!
  2. The Humanoid Cannonball
  3. It's Hammer Time
  4. Target: Turtle
  5. Tonk Commander
In addition to each of the Darkmoon Faire pets, you can also get other items that normally cost Darkmoon Tickets, including the Darkmoon Whistle and Cloak of the Darkmoon Faire.  There are also new single use vanity items that can also be found within the new Darkmoon Game Prize container.

Pet & Mount Collector Tip

So if you are a collector and are saving up to get all of the pets and the mounts from the Darkmoon Faire, then post Patch 5.2, the wise strategy would be to go for both mounts first.  You are sure to get a few of the Darkmoon Pets out of your Darkmoon Game Prizes as you amass the Darkmoon Prize Tickets required for both of the mounts.  Then you can focus on getting the pets once you have the mounts.  This will help prevent getting a free pet that you've already purchased, as you will be purchasing your pets last.

This new addition of the Darkmoon Game Prize is also a nice boost for running your lower level alts through the Darkmoon Faire as each day they will each get 5 chances at a free pet that you can cage and sell on the auction house (or level up and sell for even more profit).

Lego Minecraft Micro Worlds Back In Stock!

Gifts For Gamers

The Lego Minecraft Micro Worlds Are Back In Stock!

The Lego Minecraft Micro Worlds are very popular, which has made them super rare and hard to find.  They've been out of stock everywhere for months (most of all of last year), unless you are willing to pay the heavily marked up prices because of their massive demand and low supply.  Jinx & Amazon have both just got a fresh shipment and they are back in stock (for now).  If you've been hunting for these, then don't sleep on it!  Supplies are already dwindling as Minecraft fans are learning they can get them again for regular retail price - that is until they are gone again!

This type of high demand / low supply item presents a couple of oppurtunities.
  1. Buyers & collectors can get their Lego Minecraft Micro Worlds kits at regular retail price.
  2. Investors can purchase the Lego Minecraft Micro Worlds at normal price, then flip them for a nice profit on eBay, Amazon.com, and other third party sales sites once the supplies dwindle.
The potential to flip these for a nice profit is great.  They've been selling for $55+ for a single Lego Minecraft Micro World prior to this new stock arrival and the price will surely rise again once this current stock evaporates.

Lego Minecraft Micro Worlds at Jinx
Lego Minecraft Micro Worlds at Amazon

In addition to the Lego Micro Minecraft Worlds, there are a ton of Minecraft products available for Minecraft fans.  Both Jinx and Amazon have a variety of Minecraft goodies, like T-Shirts, stuffed creepers, Minecraft figurines, posters, and much more.
