Making Gold With Lovely Charm Farming | How Many Lovebird Mounts Can You Buy For 2700 Charms?

Making Gold With Lovely Charms

Tons of players are out looking for the best spots for farming the Lovely Charms.  Since both the new Swift Lovebird mount and the Truesilver-Shafter Arrow Peddlefeet companion pet are able to be sold to other players, the Love Is In The Air holiday provides a couple of new ways to make gold in WoW.
Since the new mount costs 270 Love Tokens, just how many Lovely Charms do you need to farm?
If you answered 2700, then you are wrong.  Sure, you could farm up 2700 Lovely Charms and convert them to 270 Lovely Charm Bracelets, then covert the Bracelets at a 1:1 ratio into Lovely Tokens.  That is the craziest, most wasteful shit I have ever heard of though!  Well, TIME TIME TO GET YOUR LEARN ON.  This post is to help all of you that haven't done your homework on just how many Lovely Charms you should be farming to get the new Swift Lovebird mount.

It is a common misconception that I have seen all over twitter, on other's blogs, and in forum posts that it takes 2700 Lovely Charms to get a mount.  Yeah, if you want to earn your mount the most inefficient way possible!  It really takes far less Lovely Charms than that to get the new Swift Lovebird mount. Way less actually!

Let's dig into the numbers a little deeper.
  • 10 Lovely Charms Make 1 Lovely Charm Bracelet.
  • 1 Lovely Charm Bracelet Trades For 1 Love Token.
  • The Swift Lovebird Mount Costs 270 Love Tokens.
  • There Are 6 Daily Quests That Each Award 5 Love Tokens.
  • 4 Of These Quests Are Capital City Turn Ins That Require 1 Lovely Charm Bracelet.
  • You Can Earn 30 Love Tokens Per Day Just Doing The Dailies.
  • Love Is In The Air Runs For 15 Days (Feb 5th - Feb 19th)
  • The Holiday Boss Reward, Heart Shaped Box has a chance to contain 10 Love Tokens.
Using the above facts, care to rethink your answer?  It's not 2700 Lovely Charms per Swift Lovebird, if you do it the smart way.  Isn't goblinism about finding the best and cheapest ways to make the most profit the most efficiently?  Leave the most inefficient ways to the ignorant, uninformed, or the downright lazy.

30 Love Tokens per day from the 6 Dailies, which only require 4 Lovely Charm Bracelets per day, means you only need to farm up 360 Lovely Charms if you only did the Daily Quests.  It would take 9 days of doing nothing but the daily quests to get the Swift Lovebird mount that costs 270 Love Tokens.  When you add in running the daily holiday boss, you can shorten that time for each 10 pack of Love Tokens you get out of your Heart Shaped Box.

So the answer to "How Many Lovely Charms Do I Need To Farm For The Swift Lovebird Mount?" is 360 Lovely Charms maximum.  Take 10 off of that total for every Heart Shaped Box that awards you the 10 Love Tokens.

360 vs 2700 is quite the difference.  So while the fool is buying 1 mount for 2700 Lovely Charms, the wise man is buying 7 Swift Lovebirds on 7 different alts for the same price with enough leftovers to get 4 Truesilver-Shafted Arrows as well.  So don't listen to the fools out there.  Listen to this wise man!

Random Tips for Selling Multiple Lovebird Mounts
  • You only need 1 Lovely Charm farming character (not required to farm on each alt).
  • You can transfer Lovely Charm Bracelets through your guild bank.
  • Lovely Charm Bracelets cannot be mailed.
  • Lovely Charm Bracelets wrapped in wrapping paper CAN be mailed!
  • Any level character can do the dailies. (A joke on a Mage with ports.)
  • You must be 84 to join the holiday dungeon queue to try for extra Love Tokens.
  • Don't be a fool and sell the mounts and pets during the holiday.
  • The value will be higher once they are no longer obtainable (for a year).
I hope this post helps you save some time and effort in your Lovely Charm farming strategy.  Be sure to check out my favorite spot to farm Lovely Charms, which also lists tons of great spots in the comments as well.

  1. Just a thought:

ToT farming nets around 750 charms per hour (or 75 Hearts).

I am not a math major by any means, but that would mean you need to pull off all six (portals and all) dailies in roughly 24 minutes for them to even themselves out time-wise.

    1 Heart= 10 Charms
    30 Hearts= 300 Charms
    750/hr = 300 farmed in about 24 minutes

Oh yeah, we gotta add 40 more charms for the 4 Bracelets needed for the turn-ins. That drops it down to 20.8 minutes for the quests to equal farming ToT.

Basically, if you can knock out all 6 daily quests in 20 minutes, you can consider yourself even. If it takes more than that, consider it lost time.

But once again, I am not a math major.

I still prefer to let others do the dailies and farming while I pick them off the AH. But that's just me. =)

I just completed the round on my mage, so I can't do a timed run tonight. It's not very long and definately isn't as boring as standing around and farming the stupid charms is, lol. While traveling doing the dailies, I can also be selling portals, which brings more income. I also am able to bark while in the capital cities, which is also a plus for me. On top of it, the quests all reward gold and experience too. Where farming in ToT rewards squat.

As far as the time comparison goes (although time is only one factor), we have to remember that 750 per hour in ToT may be the cap or ideal rate, but many players, myself included, where not able to reach anywhere near that total per hour like is claimed. Not that is is a false claim, just our skills or tolerance can't meet that rate.

So what you are really measuring as a reader is if doing the dailies is faster when compared to your own farming tolerance or capabilities. Don't stand there wasting your time trying to farm these when you don't have to.

Once you have the tokens farmed though, that time is already sunk. If you already have 2700 tokens farmed, how are you going to SPEND them? Waste them all on 1 mount? Or put in a little bit extra time on top of the farming time to end the holiday with 7 mounts in your bag?

And then at the same time, if you only want to get a single mount, the whole point is you don't even need to farm up 2700 of the dang things. You only need 360 and even less if you are doing the dungeon boss. But by using the daily quests you can level alts easily and you may already be out and about hunting elders for the lunar festival. Too many invaluable benefits that can't be measured in time.

I'm experimenting with the quests and farming and also going to buying some off the auction house because the prices are lower than expected and these will be decent to hedge with come MoP.

  3. I spend an hour ro so in ToT while im reading a book, so if u use the time efficently and can multitask then its free time :P

    gotta love druids
step 1 spit in bear form in middle of spawning area
    step 2 spam swipe/thrash continually
step 3 continue to read book as normal while swping
    step 4 proffit :P

thanks to self heals from crits, and the mobs generating rage by hitting me i never need or check my hp or anything :P

In my opinion, selling holiday mounts at any time deluding he holiday is a poor decision. The value will be greater when they are not available. Why sell 1 when you can sell 7? That one better sell for a ton.

  5. Gimp: Exactly what I've been doing. Have farmed around 700 Love Tokens this way. As Cold just opened my eyes, I'll probably start doing dailies as well now!

It's actual bumped to 22.1 mins to break even once you add in the extra time required to create the extra 234 bracelets, which each have a 3 sec cast time.

  7. Did a couple test runs.

Mage took 13min 42 secs for all 6 daily quests as well as the holiday boss kill.

Non-mage took 19:27 including the holiday boss as well. This run didn't even require a portal purchase, but I did take a flight from Thunder Bluff to Tanaris (for the Crown quest in Uldum).

The DMF portal from ORG to TB make its super fast on that continent and then the other side has the UC / SMC Translocator. The worst part is the inability to use a flying mount in Silvermoon City.

Either way they both figure in under for the time comparison.

  8. I think I have to go with alto this time... Seems like very comparable time involved either way but ToT means I can watch my TV at the same time. Zero attention required :)

  10. @druidiot

How many to buy is up to you to decide based on how much capital you have. Right now is a good time to buy as prices have dipped pretty low on many servers. The more you snatch up also means less for competition to grab as well.
I would grab 10 or so if that is feasible with your budget. More if the price keeps dropping.
