My Scribe's Favorite WoW Gold Making Spot

Troll Area In New Orgrimmar

February Entry For Cold's Gold Blogging Carnival

The Cold's Gold Factory Blogging Carnival chosen topic for the month of February has been decided.  I've asked everyone to reveal one of their secret or favorite crafting / business / auctioneering / farming hot spots within the World of Warcraft universe.  Today I will explain one of the prime locations for one of my main gold makers in WoW, my scribe.  By now, most WoW Horde WoW players know that the Tauren area in Orgrimmar is a nice spot for conduction auction house business for making gold in WoW.  That area is ideal for any crafters that need use of a forge, anvil, or tailoring materials.  If you are a crafter of another profession, there may be a better suited location for you to conduct your business.  Hopefully, this month's carnival entries will shed some light on some nice efficient areas for operating your gold making alts.  Every ideal alt needs to find their own ideal crafting location.

The Ogrimmar Troll Area - A Horde Scribe's Ideal Location

As a Scribe that makes a lot of gold off of the Inscription profession, I am in need of an efficient area for conducting my auction house gold making business.  The best area I have found for a Horde Scribe is the Troll area in Northwestern Orgrimmar in The Valley Of Spirits.  The perfect location would be a spot that I could access my Inscription vendor, a mailbox, my guild and personal banks, and the auction house without having to move one bit.  Sadly, this perfect area does not exist.  However in the troll area, I can have access to 3 of the 5 without moving, with the other 2 close by.  Let's dig a little deeper.

The Bank & Auction House Hut

The main area of operation in the Troll area in Orgrimmar is the Auction House and Banking Combo Hut.  Located at the top of a troll tribal hut is the Auction House auctioneer.  This troll area auctioneer is housed in the same building as the banks.  This means that you can have access to your bank or guild bank and the auction house at the same time.  This is a plus for any gold makers that tends to use their bank or guild bank for storage.  Being able to store glyphs in my guild bank as a scribe, has been a great time saver in itself.

The Mail Box

Next we need a close mail box location and the Org Troll area has just that.  From within the Troll area bank / auction hut you can look down below (remember you are on the 2nd story of the hut) and see a mail box just a few yards away on the Troll side of the tunnel that leads from The Valley Of Wisdom into The Valley of Spirits.  So it is just a quick jump down, which is super fast and easy with any flying mount.  This is about the typical distance for a mailbox to auctioneer run, but this mailbox very rarely sees any activity.  That is a good thing, because less activity means less lag and less chance of some idiot blocking your access to the mailbox.

The Inscription Vendor

Last but not least, we come to the Inscription vendor.  As a scribe, I purchase a ton of crafting materials off of the Inscription supplies vendors.  Selling Glyphs and Mysterious Fortune Cards means I blow through a TON of parchiment paper.  Having access to a nearby vendor is also a must for any ideal crafting location.  Lucky enough, the Inscription supplies vendor is in the next hut over (to the South).  The Inscription vendor is also located on the top floor of the neighboring hut.  This means a quick mount up and 3 second flight will having you hopping from the vendor hut and the auctioneer / bank hut in no time.

With the Auction House and Banks housed in 1 hut, the Inscription supply vendor in the Troll hut next door, and the bank a short distance on the ground below, you have most everything a Scribe would need all layed out in a nice triangular formation.  This is where Primerib does all of his business, including barking MFCs while I work on glyphs and other Inscription markets.

If you have a secret spot you would like to share, don't forget that anyone can participate in the blogging carnivals.  Check out the 2012 February carnival topic post for the information on posting, as well as a couple of great sites that are willing to host your entries.

Mists of Pandaria Wishes: A BoA Fillable Bag

Here is my own submission into the Cold's Gold Factory Gold Blogging Carnival for January 2011.  If you are interested in participating in this month's gold blogging carnival, be sure to get your carnival entry post written and posted live to your blog today or tommorrow (and email me the link) as the carnivals run on the 11th of each month.

The topic for the January gold blogging carnival is:

"If you could add 1 item or feature to the Mists of Pandaria WoW expansion, what would it be and why?"

There are many ideas that I came up with as possibilities for additions to the Mists of Pandaria expansion of World of Warcraft.  After much thought, the item I would most like to see added to WoW is a Bind-On-Account Fillable Bag, with true cross-server transferability.

The Bind-On-Account Fillable Bag

We as World of Warcraft players are definately in need of a BoA Fillable Bag.  Currently the BoA system is broken, as you can only mail BoA items to characters on the same account if they are on the same server.  The current BoA items, like Heirlooms and the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries, are technically only Bind-on-Server, so that must be fixed for my BoA Fillable Bag idea to work properly.

Blizzard has been indirectly promoting the playing of alts by making everything so much easier in the game.  Lately we have seen an increase in the number of players that have multiple characters and many of those characters are leveled and geared close behind their main character.  Blizzard has made it easier to level and much easier for those alts to get gear.  With the new announcements of opening battlegrounds and the raid finder to cross server, those alts will have an even easier time finding things to do in game.  That's all fine and dandy, but what about people who play alts on multiple servers or alts on both sides of WoW's factions?

Getting items to your other alts on the opposing faction is a chore.  Unless you have access to a second account, any cross faction exchange through the neutral auction house does come with the risk of our items being sniped out from under you.  Even with a second account it is possible to have your goods bought out from under you, although the second account option makes the risk much lower.  The cross faction Satchel trick is a help, but is still highly limited.  If we had a BoA bag that we could actually add items or gold into, the process would be safe and simple for getting items over to the other faction.

If we could load up a bag with items, gold, or gear to send to an alt on another server, then we would have a lot more options for redistributing our wealth across multiple servers and characters.  Wouldn't it be great to roll a new character on your friend's server and then have a BoA bag waiting in your mailbox full of the NW Bags, Heirlooms, and starter cash that you need to get started leveling in style?  I doubt Blizzard wants us to do this, as it could be exploited to establish a gold selling business across multiple servers.  Even if gold wasn't allowed to be sent, I would still be excited to be able to send items in a new BoA bag to my alts.

If a BoA Fillable Bag was introduced into WoW, I'm thinking it would be the type of item that Blizzard would charge real money to purchase.  I'd pay $10 for a 20 slot bag that I could use to mail items and / or gold cross faction and cross server.  It would be much nicer if we got a BoA Fillable Bag introduced into the MoP expansion that was Craftable

Wouldn't a BoA Bag that you can add items into to mail to your alts regardless of their faction or server location be a nice addition to the game?

The Benefits of Creating Alts In WoW

Alt Characters Can Fill The Missing Link

World of Warcraft Alternate Characters

It is pretty common knowledge that I am a strong proponent for creating 10 characters on your server.  By leveling and advancing all 10 of your alts into farmers and profession crafters (and not just banking toons for storage), you can greatly benefit and expand your abilities to make gold.  If you need some ideas for what roles your alts can fulfill, be sure to check out my previous series on Ideal Alts for some nice template ideas.  Here are some of the major benefits of creating and leveling alt characters in WoW.

The Benefits of Alternate Characters

  • Allow For Covering Every Possible WoW Profession
  • Ability to Weather Price Crashes With Diversity
  • Ability to Profit From Most Price Spikes With Flexibility
  • Potential to Craft Almost Everything Yourself at Materials Costs
  • Knowledge of Multiple Professions, Classes, and Races
  • If You Understand Different Characters and How They Work, You Will Better Understand What to Sell For These Other Character Types
  • Creating Specialized Farming Characters For Maximum Efficiency
  • Tons of Extra Storage Space
  • Working on Earning Guild Experience With Multiple Characters
  • A Greater More Broad World of Warcraft Gameplay Experience
  • Helps Prevent Character Burn-Out
  • Ability to Have Multiple Personalities and Playstyles
  • Options to Take Advantage of Each and Every Patch or Game Change That Proves Profitable
  • Potential to Never Pay a Tip or Crafting Fee Again
  • Able to Have Multiple Characters With Duplicate Professions For Extra Daily / Weekly Cooldowns
  • Ability to Play Characters On Both Horde and Alliance Factions
These are just some of the many benefits of creating an army of alts to level and nurture into full fledged independant farmers and crafters.  If you only have a character or two, then I strongly suggest you level a new character the next time you get bored with your current roster.  Just make sure to think ahead and plan out future alts and compare them with your current roster.  You don't want to waste time or gold on a character or their professions, so make sure to plan ahead and leave space for some of those perfect alt combinations for future creation.

What Are Some Of The Benefits That I Missed?

Midsummer Fire Festival | Ideal Holiday For Leveling Alts

Midsummer Fire Festival

Yes, it is that time of year again. The Midsummer Fire Festival has just begun and World of Warcraft players all over Azeroth are extinguishing flames, juggling torches, and farming Frost Lord Ahune. This year Frostlord Ahune appears as a level 87 elite with upgraded loot. The current cloak drops from Frost Lord Ahune are item level 353 epics are a great and easy upgrade for your alts that aren't geared out yet.

Pump Up Those Alts

One of the best uses for this holiday is to take advantage of all of the daily quests, Ahune daily summoning quests, and extinguishing and honoring all of the Alliance and Horde bonfires.  The bonfire quests alone are worth an absolute ton of experience and during the Midsummer Fire Festival you can also obtain a buff that adds +10% extra experience for killing mobs also.  The bonfire quests provide an easy way to collect gold and hefty experience from running around Azeroth.  If you have epic 310% flight, then visiting all of the Fire Festival bonfires is an absolute joke.  Don't forget you can go to Northrend and honor and extinguish fires out there, even though there is no achievement for the Northrend fires.  The Midsummer Fire Festival quests are also a great way to rack up some easy guild experience.

The Fire Festival couldn't have came at a better time.  World of Warcraft players should be leveling their alts prior to the release of Patch 4.2 in order to prepare for the Patch 4.2 daily hub requirements

Guild Bank Skimming and Cash Flow Update

Cash Flow?

Cash Flow Guild Perk and Passive Income

One of the benefits of having a guild of at least guild level 10 is the free gold from the Cash Flow guild perk.  Anytime a member of your guild loots a mob or chest, or receives a split of coins in a dungeon group or party, an extra 10% goes directly into the guild bank.  Since the change in Patch 4.1, there is no longer a text display of this extra coin that is earned by the guild.  They removed the text log output that showed "An extra Xg Xs Xc was deposited into the guild bank."  This is extra gold, not a tax on the looted gold.  Guild members that loot still get the same amount of gold as if they weren't in a gold.  It is just a bonus 10% for the guild bank.

Some guild leaders use this money to pay for guild crafting materials or guild member or officer repairs.  I have previously written about my passive guild income project for the guild.  I use a random invite all guild macro to do nothing but provide a place for leveling characters and alts to benefit from guild perks.  As a side bonus, the free bonus gold from the Cash Flow perk has been earning me a passive income.

My guild of all random invitees has recently hit guild level 10 and is pushing for guild level 11 soon.  The gold from the Cash Flow perk has earned me around 3k of free gold between leveling from level 5 to level 10.  The 3000 free gold is a nice bonus so far.  I am looking forward to more easy passive gold.

The 7th Guild Bank Slot

The first 6 guild tabs are completely blocked off from being viewed by anyone but my main character and alternate characters.  I purchased the 7th guild bank tab for the guild and opened it up for guild member use.  Any character is allowed to deposit items into the 7th guild bank tab and is allowed to withdrawal up to 2 items per day.  This guild bank slot was opened up for the guild members to be able to deposit items that other guild members could use.  It is sort of like the free penny containers near cash registers in real life.  "Need a penny take one, have a penny leave one."

The biggest problem with utilizing the bank tab this way is it tends to fill up quickly as players deposit much more than they actually withdrawal.  So periodically, I have to go through the 7th guild bank slot and remove any junk items that have been deposited in there.  I often clear out full bags of garbage that goes straight to the vendor.  Players will deposit anything into this tab, not knowing what is and isn't worth passing on.

The flipside of this strategy allows me to look into the 7th guild bank slot and basically skim anything that is of actual value to be used in crafting or in auction house profiteering.  I have found full stacks of Illusion Dust and Greater Eternal Essences in this tab.  I have also found Rare Patterns and other valuables.  I very rarely skim out of this guild bank tab, unless I have to go and clean out the garbage items.  The occasional good find makes it worth the extra effort of maintaining the garbage to either vendor or send to my Enchanter for disenchanting.

So if you are finding your playtime cut short this summer or the dang school kids have raided your markets and you are looking for a new income source, give the passive income gold making guild option a try.  You may be pleasantly surprised by how much passive gold you can make.  And the nice items you can skim out of the public guild bank tabs are a great perk too.

Anyone else got a guild bank set up for a passive income stream?

Ideal Alts Series | The Solo Raider & World Boss Killer

Ideal Alts Series Concludes

The awesome World of Warcraft character building series on Ideal Alts comes to an end today.  This will be my last installment for this series.  The alt character templates that I came up with are by no means exactly perfect as these ideas are based on my own personal preferences and ideas.  You may tweek them to meet your exact needs.  Hopefully, they have inspired you to make a new alt, with a specific role.  Or they may have given you some ideas for starting your very first alt character!  The great thing about World of Warcraft is the variety between builds and specs and this is no different with the alt characters in WoW.  So have some fun with a new alt, but plan ahead.  I may eventually do a post about some more Ideal Alt ideas, but I also may be opening the Ideal Alts topic idea up to the other bloggers by using it as the WoW gold blogging carnival topic.

Readers:  Is this a topic that you readers would like to see explored further by various bloggers?
Bloggers:  Sound like a good topic for you to do a post on?

Ideal Alts - The Solo Raider & World Boss Killer

The Solo Raider & World Boss Killer is a super fun alt to play.  This is the type of character I play as my main, although my professions are completely different.  This Ideal Alt actually makes an amazing main character and can be a legitimate high end content raider and can  fulfill the solo raider and world boss killer roles as well.

Role:  The Solo Raider's role is to be able to run old raid content, solo old heroic instances, and kill world bosses all by yourself.  The combination of professions will allow for maximizing your raiding ability as well as maximizing two of the best potential gold making professions in the game.  The Dungeon Running Ideal Alt varies greatly from the Solo Raider.  The dungeon runner can't solo raids and is a support character for dungeon groups (since it's a healer).  The solo raider needs to be able to kill and heal itself somehow or it just won't last.

    Class:  Deathknight - Blood Tank
Some would go with a Paladin, but to me a deathknight blood tank is the better choice.  Stacking mastery will get you a really nice raid tank that can solo the old raids and world bosses with help from no one.  DKs tend to be faster killers than Protection specced Paladins.  Death Strike buffed with stacked Mastery rating, the ability to heal yourself with deathcoils while Lichborne, and the ability to explode a ghoul for a ton of health make this an awesome self healing damage dealing solo spec for the role of farming old raids.  Having an army  of ghouls as well as a single ghoul and a dancing rune weapon are also excellent additions to your arsenal of abilities.  The various cooldowns are great for mitigation when those big raid boss hits come at you.

Race:  Horde - Tauren  /  Alliance - Night Elf
Really, any race would work.  I would lean towards Night Elf for their Quickness ability which gives an overall 2% more chance for mobs to miss you.  That is a nice bonus when facing raid bosses and world bosses.  On the horde side Tauren is nice for the base health increase, which plays well with death strike too.  You could pick another race for their profession bonus, but once your maxed skill, the bonus has less luster.

    Professions:  Jewelcrafting and Enchanting
Enchanting and Jewelcrafting alone are 2 of The Big 3 Professions when used in shuffling, so there is a ton of gold making ability with this combination.  Having 2 of the 3 major shuffling professions on the same character is a huge time saver.  For raiding though, you get extra stats from using the Jewelcrafter only gems and the Enchanter only ring enchantments.  That's a lot of extra Mastery rating to stack to further buff that Death strike.  Enchanting allows you to disenchant anything you come across and both Enchanting and Jewelcrafting allow you access to some of the old patterns / recipes that are BoP or only drop if the profession is present for the kill.

You can also dabble in PvP since you are going to be shuffling items in town for profit.  Shuffling ores takes forever and you can get into the PvP queue while doing your work.  Once you are inside you the battleground you can either help your side try to win the battle (Blood knights are fun and survivable) or you can continue your shuffling inside the battleground while you gain free honor.  Yeah, that won't make you any friends in the battleground, but greedy goblins don't need friends.  You can then turn that free honor in and get some Large Brilliant Shards for your honor or  use that honor to get other enchanting materials from disenchanting items.

Ideal Alt - The Solo Raider & World Boss Killer
    • Night Elf
    • Deathknight Blood Tank
    • Jewelcrafter
    • Enchanter
    • Extra Powerful Gems
    • Extra Ring Enchants
    • High Survivability
    • Get BoP and Prof Only Recipe Drops
    • Farm BoE Epics
    • Can Also Be An Awesome Main

Ideal Alts Series | Building A Better Bank Alt

    Hagor

    Building A Better Bank Toon

My good friend Wes of The Auction House Junkies Podcast ran a nice series on his great World of Warcraft gold making site CappedByCata.com.  Wes's 3 part series was on Building a Better Bank Toon and covered an area that a lot of players forget about.  There are some interesting ideas in the comments as well of those posts.  So if you haven't read Wes's series yet, make sure to check it out.

Wes's Building A Better Banker Series
    • Part 1: To Level or Not to Level?
    • Part 2: Choosing the Best Class
    • Part 3: Professions?
I had left a comment on the original post asking what was a bank alt.  It was a serious question as I don't consider any of my alts to be a bank alt.

    Cold said...

    I'm confused a bit.

    What's a bank alt? I don't think I have one.

I have 9 characters that are all levelers, crafters, and gatherers. They all list items on the auction house, gather mail, etc. They mail items to each other. They have multiple guild banks for storage.

I guess the closest thing I have to a bank alt would be my Twink I am working on. Since he's just a liquidator of guild overstocked items at the moment.
    Ideal Alts

Then I realized that I haven't had a bank alt character in quite some time, or at least what I would consider to be a bank alt.  I thought about the idea more and realized that while I do have 10 characters that all contribute (well the twink isn't a contributor, so 9), they all have specific functions.  They all operate as a link in the chain that runs the Gold Factory.  When I look at the alts I created, I know that I could have done a much better job of tweeking out their roles with better combinations.  Many of the reasons for certain combinations have changed, as Blizzard is always making changes.  So a once great combination, may not be the most wanted currently.

So I am going to be starting a new set of posts here at Cold's Gold Factory on some ideal combinations for your alts based on specific functions that they perform.  Some of the posts will be based off my current characters.  Others may highlight a great combination for those of you looking to start leveling some alts.  What to do with alts? is a very common question I am asked.  These posts should help to steer some of you with ideas and roles.

So check out Wes's post at CappedbyCata on Building a Better Banker and come back tommorrow for the first installment of Ideal Alts.  I will be talking about an Ideal Alts : The Dungeon Farmer.
    See Ya Then!

    Supplying Low Level Characters

Have You Forgotten About The Needs Of Low Level Characters?

Often we are stuck into our routines crafting high end products like belt buckles, flasks, elixirs, high end BOE gear, gems, and enchants.  Well, if you are too focused on just supplying the high level characters in World of Warcraft, then you are omitting some of the profitable markets that cater to the lower level players.

Often the lower level characters are not brand new players.  They often are ran by experienced players who are just seeking a new experience or are a fresh alt working on leveling in Warcraft to add to their list of professions that they have under their belt.  We as gold bloggers often preach about diverisification in your ability to craft within multiple professions.  Some of the these low level characters are products of theat philosophy.  They may be played by an experienced World of Warcraft player who has gold to burn.  These types of players often look to "pimp out" their alt characters with the best gear to help ease the often painful process of leveling yet another character.  Having the best gear means quicker leveling and a faster rise to the requried level needed for maximizing the profession crafting ability.

Other players like to make an actual "twink" character for lower level PvP brackets.  If you are on a server (or battlegroup) with heavy low level PvP activity, then you have some very nice options for expanding your ability to profit from lower level World of Warcraft characters.

    Low Level Niches

    Level 14-15 Shields

Once a player hits level 15, they will have the option to join the Random Dungeon Finder to run dungeons.  We all know that tanks have the shortest wait times to enter the random dungeons, so low level warriors and paladins will be looking for some tank gear once around level 15.  At super low levels it isn't that important to have tank quality gear, but a lot of players will head straight to the auction house to look for a good one handed weapon and a good shield.  Many times this market is completely barren on many servers.  Any low level 14-16 shields are a good option for selling on the auction house.  You can snatch up cheap priced green shields and mark them up for a profit.  Anytime you find a low level shield while questing or runnnig dungeons, save it.  Post it on the auction house and watch it sell to a player wanting to start tanking.

    Level 40 Mail and Plate

At level 40 there are some important gear change overs for many classes.  Warriors and Paladins switch from using mail armor and can now use plate armor.  Shamans and Hunters get to upgrade from wearing leather armor to wearing mail armor.  This is a good market to supply as again there isn't always a nice selection of mail and plate on the auction house around level 40.  Mail items from level 38-42 have always been good movers on the World of Warcraft auction houses for low level players looking for gear upgrades.  Some players will go straight to the auction house once they hit that magic level of 40 just to swap out every piece of gear they have.  You want to be the one selling to these new players.  Unlike with level 14-16 shields, you can craft the plate and mail items that they will be looking to purchase from the auction house in WoW.

    Netherweave Bags

The Netherweave Bag has long been the standard for equipping any low level characters bank and bag slots.  These continue to move at a great volume on a daily basis as there are always going to be new characters created.  This is a staple market for tailoring and is often a great market for any brand new players aspiring to be greedy goblins like the rest of us.  So if you are new to gold making, this is an excellent starter market to learn the basics of buying supplies from the auction house and turning them into profitable products to sell on the auction house.  This is also another great market to get into to understand how the overnight market will earn you lots of sales on the auction house while you aren't even logged in.

    Low Level Blue Gear

Even from my early days as a gorilla hunting noob, I saw the value of crafting and selling blue items like Barbaric Bracers.  Spidersilk Boots, Spidersilk Drape, Toughened Leather Gloves, and many others can be sold to twink characters and those players with extra gold looking to "pimp out" their alts.

    BoA Enchants

Some low level characters will be fortunate enough to receive some BoA heirloom gear from the other higher level characters on their account.  These BoA heirlooms will be best used with some of the best enchants available to put onto these items.  Have you forgotten to dust off your enchanting rods and get to work supplying enchants for BoA heirlooms?  Again, if you have a nice twink population on your server this market is an excellent one.  Many of the best enchants for BoA heirloom items are also highly sought after by twink characters, so you may be supplying two seperate markets with the same items.  Cha-Ching!

So try not to get stuck into the same old rut of supplying only the high level characters in World of Warcraft.  You may be overlooking some nice markets that could help you to diversify your gold making tactics and help those streams of gold turn to rivers of revenue!

    Multiple Profession Coverage in WoW

    Multiple Profession Coverage

I'd like to take some time to discuss having multiple professions on your alternate characters along with covering the same professions on multiple characters.  We had a listener comment on the Auction House Junkies Gold Making Podcast page that I will be addressing as well.
"I heard you guys talking about leveling the same profession on multiple characers.  Do you guys have EVERY profession covered?  I feel like I'm wasting time having alts with the same profession..."        -Rinbair
Some players like to have multiple characters with the same profession, while others like to cover all professions with their characters on the same World of Warcraft server.  A third type of player likes to cover all professions AND have multiples of the same profession on various characters, often at the expense of gathering professions.

What type of player are you?
    1. Don't Have All Professions Covered.
    2. Have All Professions Covered.
    3. Have Multiples of the Same Profession.
    4. Have All Professions Covered and Multiples of the Same Crafting Profession.
    5. Have All Crafting Professions Covered with Multiples of Only Gathering Professions.
    Multiple Professions

Myself, I have all professions covered with multiples of each gathering profession and an extra tailor for more dreamcloth cooldowns.  Although neither tailor is yet high enough to craft dreamcloth, that was the original plan upon set-up.  Originally one was shadowcloth specialization and the other was spellfire spec.

I would take a guess that the most common profession that players have on multiple alternate characters is the Alchemist.  I myself have 2 alchemists.  The main alchemist is transmute spec, and the other was intended to be either potion or flask spec, but it just hasn't been profitable to switch away from a 2nd transmutation spec alchemist yet.  The main benefits of having multiple alchemists is that their daily cooldowns are some of the easiest and most profitable cooldowns to use to make an easy profit.  I have heard of players with 5-6 alchemists on the same server due to this.

    Diversity & Flexibility

While it is still possible to make plenty of gold with only 1 character and 2 professions on that single character, having multiple professions covered opens up so many more possibilities for profiting through the auction houses in World of Warcraft.

By having multiple professions you are diversifying your ability to make gold.  Having just a few professions covered is viable, but not as secure of an option as having all professions covered.  If you can easily move out of one market and into another you are protecting yourself should an auction house camper invade into your sales and profits.

You also are more flexible and can profit from various methods by crafting different poducts.  Should Blizzard patch / hotfix / nerf something that is very profitable for you, if you have multiple characters with multiple profession coverage, then you won't be as affected by the changes.  Just image if you were a single character with Alchemy and Enchanting making tons of profit off of disenchanting your epic alchemist trinkets for maelstrom crystals.  Then blizzard nerfs you by making those same trinkets not able to be disenchanted.  If this was your only source of income, then your would be screwed.  If you have multiple professions covered, then you can just move onto a different method.

    Unique Playstyles

There is no perfect set-up or solution when it comes to setting up your characters and your professions.  Everyone has a unique playstyle, so you set up is going to be different from mine.  Some players like to have specific combinations on specific races.  Others cover all professions.  Some like to find the easiest and most profitable profession and then have multiples of that single profession.  Some like myself, like to have each character self supportive and tend to give each character 1 crafting and 1 gathering profession.  Others pick 2 gathering professions up until they hit max level, then immediately power level 2 crafting professions.

What it all boils down to when picking your profession set-up is what your playstyle is, how much time you want to devote to crafting and gathering, how much total playtime ou have, and just plain personal preference.  There is no right or wrong set-up when it comes to making gold off the auction house in World of Warcraft.

Multiple Accounts & the Neutral Auction House: Reader Submission

"Hey man. Let me start out by saying I very much enjoy your blog. I have been playing WoW for a long time, and have always been into having tons and tons of alts. Always been broke with no gold, no professions. Lately, professions and making gold seem like a fun thing to do/aim for instead of mindlessly leveling alts and gearing them and wasting more gold. I decided to have 3 toons in Cata.

    Hunter - 450 JC/Mining
    Druid - 450 Enchanting/?(Suggestion for this profession)?
    Warlock - 450 Alchemy/Herb

Anyway, here is a gold strat I have thought about. Let me know what you think.
I have 2 wow accounts. My plan would be...
    Example 1

Account A buy as many primordial saronites as I can at the lowest going rate on my faction (horde), which is around 410g. Say I buy 10 of them. I would spend 4,100g. Then make my way to the neutral AH, and put the 10 orbs up for 1 copper. Then quickly grab them off the AH on Account B, on my alliance toon. Then sell them on my alliance side for the going rate, which is about 480g. This would make around 4,800g minus the 4,100g i spent on them originally. Which would net me about 700g for little to no work? Does this seem like a strategy that could work for a long time, if I'm willing to pay the subscription. Because no matter what, prices on different factions are ALWAYS going to be different.

    Thanks,

    Deathvalley"

Thanks Deathvalley for the submission.  Anyone else have suggestions or ideas, feel free to comment as well.  Here's my take:

I have 10 characters on the same server so I understand the expense in leveling and gearing alts.  Mine all have epic flight and cold weather flight and maxed professions, so it is attainable.  With the end of the expansion nearing, I wouldn't focus much on gearing your alts, unless its from dungeon drops.  Once the expansion drops, we will get quest gear that out levels our raiding /  badge gear, as is the case every expansion.  So don't waste gold gearing up now.

As far as your druid's second profession.  Druids make the best gatherers with their instant flying mount, especially Herbalism as you can herb in flightform without leaving form.  If you want something good to pair with enchanting, JC and BS are great, especially if you are looking for cheap enchanting mats.  Both professions have nice BOP craftables that can be disenchanted for better profit than the typical tailor/ enchanting combos.

Cross-faction trading is a great way to get gold.  I would tend to shy away from Primordial Saronites right now, as the pricing is falling daily.  What I would focus on are the big 4 for starters:
Wool Cloth from Alliance to Horde
Silk Cloth from Horde to Alliance
Faction Specific Cooking Recipes (especially Moongraze Tenderloin and other quest earned ones.)
Faction Specific Vanity Pets (Mainly Kittens and especially White Kittens)

The Vanity Pet Market is awesome for both sides, but especially Alliance to Horde.
