Flame-Scarred Junkbox Pickpocket Fun

Pickpocket

What do you think of when you see the image above?  Do you think of picking the pockets of all these nice densely populated nagas?  If you are looking for something new to do, then step outside the auction house on your rogue.  You never know when you may be questing and run across a beautiful location like this one I found along the Souther edge of The Shimmering Expanse, Vash'jir.  There are a ton of nagas packed tightly together with some even swimming towards you.  The dense packing of mobs along with clusters of nagas together, make this a great pickpocketting location for your rogue.

Flame-Scarred Junkbox

These nagas along with many other Cataclysm humanoids have a chance to award a Flame-Scarred Junkbox.  The Flame-Scarred Junkbox requires Lockpicking to open and has a chance for some really nice items to resell.  You have a chance to find Rogue's Draught, Inscription Materials to Sell on the AH, or blue Cataclsym gems.  If you get lucky you could find one of 3 Level 85 Epic Weapons.

Kroll Decapitator
Spinerender
The Twilight Blade

These 3 epic Level 85 required weapons are Bind-on-Equip so they can be resold on the auction house.  Anyone been lucky enought to find one of these weapons yet?  They are only obtainable from within the Flame-Scarred Junkboxes.

Look for an area with a lot of mobs that are closely packed together.  This will help increase the efficiency of your pickpocketting.  Having a potion that increases swimming speed would be a great help, if underwater like in this location.  So if you are bored or looking for something new to try, then dust off that rogue and go Flame-Scarred Junkbox farming.  Maybe you will be lucky enough to find a nice epic weapon.

Do you have a great pickpocket location?

How To Ninja Locked Treasure Chests

Dungeon Chests

Most people assume that if there is no rogue in the dungeon group, then any locked treasure chest within the dungeon is unlootable.  "It's locked.  Keep pulling!" I'm not sure why this is a common belief, but I always use it to my advantage.  We as auctioneers are often profitting off of other players' errors and ignorance, and this is another oppurtunity.

Dungeon Groups

If you are dungeoneering in a guild group or with a group of friends, then you probably use your lockpicking skill to open any locked chests.  If you are in a PUG dungeon group, do you use your lockpicking skills?  I only do if it is a quality group and we are planning on running multiple dungeons.  If not, I ignore all locked chests within the instance.  Why?  Being the greedy and evil goblin that I am, I want to keep all the chest's contents for myself.  I go back through the instance after the dungeon group disbands and claim all of the chest's goodies for myself.  These random PUG members may never cross your path again so you don't really owe them anything.  You way remember back during Hallow's Eve when I discussed this tactic briefly for claiming all the scarlet monastery chests for yourself.

3 Ways To Ninja Locked Chests

1)  Rogue - "Sorry my lockpicking skill isn't high enough."  Then go pick the lock once everyone leaves and collect all the gold and items.

2)  Blacksmith - No one needs to know that you are a blacksmith or whether you have blacksmith keys on you or not.  Use those blacksmith lockpicking skills after everyone else leaves.  You do carry keys on you right?

3)  Engineer - Just like blacksmiths, engineers can craft seaforium charges to open chests.  Backtrack through the dungeon and collect those locked goods waiting for you in the empty instance.  Bonus if you use a speed boost with your engineering gadgets to get to those chests.

Just remember to have the dungeoun group clear out any mobs near those locked chests so you can return to the safely when you are alone.

Blacksmithing Lock Picking (Revisited)

So last month I talked about Blacksmith Lockpicking as an optional idea for blacksmiths to make some easy gold.  I showed that you can craft the blacksmithing titanium keys and any tip over 84s will net you a profit for just a few seconds of your time.

Well, today I was on my blacksmith for a good while so I shouted in trade to test out my own advise.  I sent out a message that I was offering lockpicking services in Orgrimmar and almost instantly had two replies.  I highly recommend putting an advertisement into trade chat while you are smelting since that will give you some time to find some takers while you smelt.  The first guy had 2 boxes to unlock and tipped me 2 gold.  Fair, not too great, but easy profit none the less.  Then the second guy brings me 20 locked boxes of various levels and then tips me 250g.  Yup!  250 Gold for a few minutes of work.  None of the boxes were higher than level 375 so I just used the Cobalt Skeleton Keys and didn't even have to break into my Titanium Skeleton Keys.  The Cobalt Skeleton Keys only take 4 Cobalt Bars per stack of 10 keys.

So if you haven't tried this out yet, give it a go because this is super easy money.  Steal the business away from the rogues and pocket it for yourselves.

Blacksmith LockPicking

We all see the people in trade chat looking for a rogue to pick their newly found locked boxes.  And always offering tips.  Why leave all the easy tips to just the rogues?  Blacksmiths have a perfect viable source of income that I bet you never even gave a second chance. Well let's take a look at this idea. Blacksmith Lockpickers For Tips or Fees.

Titanium Skeleton Key

Requires Blacksmithing (430)
Item Level 80
Use: Allows opening of locks that require up to 400 lockpicking skill.
The skeleton key is consumed in the process.

The recipe is 4 Saronite Bars and 1 Titanium Bar.  Here's the kicker though.  Each Craft creats a Stack of 20x Titanium Skeleton Key.  So now let's do the math.  As I showed yesterday, turn 8 Saronite Bars into that Titanium Bar via an Alchemist.  So we will need a total of 24 Saronite Ore per set of 20 Lockpicks.  Right now Saronite Ore is at 14g per stack on my server.  It takes 1.2 stacks of Saronite Ore at 14g per stack for a total of 16.8g per stack of 20 Titanium Skeleton Keys.

So it would costs less than 1g per box opened (84 silver actually).  Think tips would be able to cover that?  Hell Yes!  On my rogue I get tips of 5g per box almost standard without even mentioning anything.  Some people tip 10g or more for a single box.  And sometimes you will get 100g from someone for a opening a few they have been saving up.

Well, this wouldn't be a major source of income, but it is free, easy, quick money.  So don't let those people in trade chat go away unhappy or to a rogue.  Use your Titanium Skeleton Key to turn a nice profit and dip into those rogues pockets for a change!
