The Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm is another of the Rare Spawn Lost And Found Items that we talked about last week.  The Ancient Pandaren Mining Pick is the other main Lost and Found Rare Item that I recommend that you target along with the Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm as the two must have items from the new rare loot system.

The Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm (previously known as the Ancient Pandaren Fishing Lure in the MoP Beta) is a BoP item that gives you a 1 hour buff that gives you a chance to catch extra fish from Fishing Pools in the Zones of Pandaria.  Early reports suggest that the total fish caught from using the Fishing Charm in MoP Pools rewards an extra 20% of fish. The Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm is not consumed when used, but you will need to acquire one of each of your Fishermen as it is BoP.

Where To Find The Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm?

The Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm can be obtained in the MoP zone Valley of the Four Winds.  It is awarded from talking to the Ghostly Pandaren Fisherman at the Northern edge of Cattail Lake.  The Ghostly Pandaren Fisherman is a rare spawn NPC and he only awards 1 Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm per appearance, so you must be the first to talk to the Ghostly Fisherman and then select the dialogue to receive the Charm. 

Obviously anyone planning on Fishing in Pandaria will want to grab this Charm and fish in the pools of the Pandaren zones to get an extra 20% fish.  Again, just like the Ancient Pandaren Mining pick is a must for Miners, the Charm is a must for Anglers.

Fishing For Stendel's Bane

Wes over at CappedbyCata recently did a nice post on maximizing your secondary professions.  It's been a while since I have mentioned anything for the Warcraft fishermen out there, so today's post will follow suit.  Here's a tip, I bet you didn't know about.

Stendel's Bane is a rare catch from fishing at Stendel's Pond in Westfall.  Stendel's Pond is located North-East of Moonbrook as shown on the Westfall map above.  Although it is in a much easier location to reach for Alliance WoW players, Horde players may want to make the trek over to Westfall as well.  The Stendel's Bane fish is a rare caught fish, so some RNG luck is involved.  If you get even luckier, you may find something valuable within the stomach of your Stendel's Bane.

Once you are lucky enough to catch your rare Stendel's Bane, you get to open it up and see just how lucky you are.  Inside the belly of this rare little fish you will find some nightcrawlers, bright baubles, and cooked brilliant smallfish.  (Don't ask me how those raw fished got cooked inside this fish's belly.)  You also will find a fishing rod buff item, the Reinforced Fishing Line, which can be used as a ghetto +1 fishing buff, if you don't have the +5 line from winning the Booty Bay fishing derby.  Another option is to add the +1 buff onto a Strong Fishing Pole (buy from vendors) to sell for extra profit on the auction house to newer fisherman.
 
Stendel's Bane can also rarely reward Stendel's Wedding Band.  This ring may look like a piece of junk at first sight, but it's not.  It is Bind-On-Equip so it can be traded or sold to other Warcraft players.  The real benefit is for level 11-14 twinks as the +5 crit rating at level 11 is equal to +6.19% crit.  Level 11 twinks love this ring.  The wedding band is not unique either, so a level 11 twink could wear a matching pair of these Wedding Bands for +12.38% critical strike chance! 
 
The Undermine Journal shows the listed values for Stendel's Wedding Band ranging from 120 to 1500 gold for this blue twink ring.  Obviously, if you have a low level twink market on your server, you will have a much better chance of selling Stendel's Wedding Band.

I have been making ridiculous profits off of crafting Deepstone Oil and selling in stacks of 8.  Deepstone Oil is crafted by Alchemists and is a nice choice for using my Common Commodity Crafting technique when leveling your alchemy profession.  Crafting Deepstone Oils can get you an easy 15 skill points in Alchemy and earn you a profit as well.

I am currently selling stacks of 8 Deepstone Oil for 345 gold and they always sell.

What?!?!  Yes, you read correct.

Vial of Sands Crafting

Deepstone Oil is crafted by an alchemist and oil requires 1 Albino Cavefish per craft.  Each Albino Cavefish will yield 1-2 Deepstone Oil.  I sell in stacks of 8 because the Vial of Sands mount recipe requires 8 Deepstone Oil.

I found that this market is untapped on my server and have been playing with the pricing.  I am just as shocked as you that I can inflate this price so high and have the Deepstone Oils still sell.  The only reasoning I can come up with is that since anyone collecting the materials to have a Vial of Sands crafted has already spent tens of thousands of gold, they probably don't mind a bit extra for these Deepstone Oils?  I'm sure players are just happy to finally see the Deepstone Oil available and buy them at an inflated price just to finally be finished collecting materials for their Vial of Sands mount.  Or maybe they don't know how easy they are to craft.  There are rarely any albino cavefish posted on the Auction House, but when there are, I snatch them up with a quickness.  Hell, at this rate I may just have to go fish some Albino Cavefish up myself.

Glass Fishing Bobber Is Bugged

This week I received a tweet (Follow me @SSmith0911) from a follower asking about my thoughts on the Glass Fishing Bobber Speculation.  Truth be told, I had no idea what he was talking about.  So I had to look into the item and see what the fuss is.  The Glass Fishing Bobber is broken.  Clicking it does nothing and it is supposed to be fixed in a future patch or hotfix.  Currently it is still broken.

Glass Fishing Bobber is an item that is sometimes (5%) obtained from within the New Cataclysm Fishing daily quest reward Bag of Shiny Things. 

Item Speculation

The speculation arises because it is unclear what the item actually will do.  It is a level one item that awards +15 Fishing, but does it add a permanent skill gain?  Is it a temporary buff?  Is it only going to be usable when applied to a fishing pole?  Is it a consumable?  No one really knows for sure, but I am leaning towards this item being a temporary buff and not worth much at all. 

The Glass Fishing Bobber is a level 1 item and only has a 5% drop chance from within the bags.  When clicked on the item effect on wowhead it comes up as a temporary buff.  If it is just a temporary buff, ten why is it only found 15% of the time?  Hence people are speculating and hoping that it turns into a permanent buff item when fixed.

My Advice

So my advice would be to save any of these bobbers you get from your fishing reward bags.  I wouldn't go out of my way to hunt these down, but if you see them for a few gold, then they may be worth picking up and hoping for a positive result once they are patched.

My favorite catch is by far Mr. Pinchy!  Magical Crawdad is absolutely my most favorite vanity pet within World of Warcraft.  This little crustacean is as cool as cool can be!  He looks so good I just want to rip his little head off and suck all the juice out! 

My Luck With Rare Mounts And Pets

Why am I most proud of this cute little red guy?  Well, he's super rare for one.  I have heard horror stories of players fishing for him for over a year with no luck.  Well, for some reason I have been ridiculously lucky when it comes to acquiring rare vanity pets and rare dropped mounts.  You may remember last year when I got both the Swift Razzashi Raptor and the Swift Zulian Tiger from the same run.  Or you may recall me discussing how I got my Headless Horseman's Mount (back when it was uber-rare before the dungeon auto queues) as the 2nd time it dropped in the same instance group!  Or the X-53 Touring Rocket I got from buying in trade chat that turned out to be one of the very few legit transactions that wasn't a scam.

Well I truely believe that Mr. Pinchy started off this entire mount and pet lucky streak.  Many players had a hell of time fishing for Mr. Pinchy from the pools in Terrokar Forest.  Once you fish him up you aren't even guaranteed the pet.  He will grant you 3 wishes and getting the pet is the rarest of the options he will grant.  Well, truth be told, I got Mr. Pinchy out of my 3rd or 4th pool that I attempted granting me the  Mr. Pinchy's Magical Crawdad Box Achievement and with my first wish he granted me Mr. Pinchy the vanity pet!  So Mr. Pinchy this one is for you!  You have truly been magical to me!  Thanks for all the great luck you have brought to me over the years.  Mr. Pinchy's luck also helped me to fish up Old Crafty within my first 20 casts in Ogrimmar.  Mr. Pinchy, I love you.

Mr. Pinchy - How To Get Yours

Mr. Pinchy the magical crawdad can only be fished up from pools of Highland Mixed Schools in Terrokar Forest, Outlands.  These pools are in lakes atop high plateaus and require a flying mount to even reach.  The chance to catch him is very rare and once caught he will grant you 3 wishes.  These wishes have a 2 day cooldown and once all 3 are used he is gone.  If you didn't get the pet, you will have to fish him up from another pool and hope one of the new wishes will grant you the pet.  Mr. Pinchy's wishes can grant you:

• Mr. Pinchy's Gift - Contains 4-5 level appropriate mana and health potions (4-5 of each).
• Mr. Pinchy's Blessing - A 2 hour buff that grants 1300 extra health and persists through death(counts as a flask).
• Furious Mr. Pinchy - A level 70 non-elite that attacks you and your party.
• Benevolent Mr. Pinchy - A level 70 guardian that assists you in combat for 10 minutes.
• Magical Crawdad Box - Contains the Magical Crawdad vanity pet.

How I Won The Booty Bay Fishing Derby

How I Won The Booty Bay Fishing Derby

On Sunday the 12th of September I won the Booty Bay Fishing Extravaganza.  Got me one step closer to my Angler title and I selected the trinket that turns me into a fish.  Here's some tips on how I did it.

1)  Waterwalk:  I'm a Deathnight.  This is a huge advantage due to Path of Frost, but shamans have waterwalk.  All other classes should use potions of waterwalking.  Simplifies things and makes travel to Tastyfish pools shorter.

2) Timing:  I chose September 12th to try to win.  Why?  Less competition.  Why?  That was opening day of the NFL football season.  Yup RL events do affect in game events.

3)  Come Prepared:  I had my best pole, my hat, lures, and plenty of Captain Rumseys Rum for extra buffs to fishing skill.  I didn't have the boots yet, but I did also get the rare fish that traded in for the +5 fishing boots.  If you have enchanted fishing gloves, then wear those as well.  Higher skill does mean faster catches in my observations.

4)  Speed:  The main problem with the contest is fighting over pools, so any speed boosts are golden.  Unholy Aura, Crusader Aura, +movement speed to boots, Sprint, Rocket Boots or anything that increases your movement speed should be used, if you are serious about winning.

5)  Location:  Where you start and how crowded the area is will also affect your performance.  Don't start where you see a lot of fishermen.  Fighting over pools is bad and lowers the catch rate of each fisherman that is competing for pools in the area.  My secret locale that I chose was an amazing area.  I chose the little dead end pool area just North of the naga area and just south of the Bloodsail Compound up that way.  On the Zone map it is the area on the coast due west of the Ruins of Aboraz.  I fished from 3 pools that form a triangle in that area over and over, until i had to move to get my last 4 as others caught on to the area.  I highly recommend this spot as 2 of the pools spawn right next to each other and I has 20+ fish before even having to move.  Stay away from the southern east coast, the eastern coast, and Yojimba Isle as that is where you will get the most competition.

6)  Hearth:  Make sure to set your hearth to the Booty Bay Inn and make sure you don't have it on cooldown.  The contest takes around 20 minutes max.  I won in 16 minutes.  So don't get stuck having to run back to town.

7)  If someone starts fishing in a pool you are in, never try to get the last fish because you never know how many fish will come out of any pool. You don't want to be the one who wasted his time fishing in a pool that disappears once your competitor pulls out the last fish.  If you cast first, then you are fine.  Let the dummy waste his time.

So with proper planning and a good strategy, you should greatly increase your chances at winning.  Hope these tips were helpful to those of you stilling shooting to be an angler.

How To Farm Tome of Polymorph: Turtle

Tome of Polymorph Turtle is a vanity item that allows a Mage to "turtle" a mob or opponent, rather than the boring "sheep" that is the standard cast.  These bad boys sell for upper hundreds to lower thousands.  And it takes very little time to get a shot at one.  Wowhead lists the drop rate at 14%, but I am 3 for 3 in getting these to drop, so I believe the drop rate has been increased, or I am very lucky.

Anyways, the Tome drops off of the optional boss, Gahz'ranka, in the raid instance Zul'Gurub.  There is a pre-requisite chain that must be completed before you can "fish" up Gahz'ranka for your chance at this gold fetching item.

First off, to do this solo you must be at least level 58 to start the quest chain.  Although I have not tested this, I believe the old fishing skill requirements of 330 buffed no longer apply since the patch that allows fishing in pools of fish at any skill level.  And since this is a raid, you just need to invite someone, make a raid, then kick them once you are inside the raid instance.  Or better yet, this is what I do when possible.  Find an enchanter that is just in town, etc, and make a raid and stay in it for the free disenchants to save bag space and time.  Don't forget to tip the helpful enchanter.  Yup, thats right!  In case you don't already know, you can get the disenchant option int he loot box just for being grouped with an enchanter.  They need not be near you.

When in ZG, you are looking for Pagle's Point, an obvious campground with boxes and free jugs of liquor to get your quest item to strat the chain.  Pagle's Point is in the NE corner of the ring of water around Hakkar's platform.  Just enter the raid, jump in the water and make your way to Pagle's Point.  Once there look for the sparkling box or turn on low-level quests tracking.  Grab the Battered Tackle Box, open it up, and retrieve the quest chain starter item Nat's Measuring Tape.  Now make your way to Nat Pagle at Tidefury Cove, which is South of Theramore Isle in Dustwallow Marsh (on the coast).  Turn the quest in to Nat and he will now sell you Mudskunk Lures, which are used to summon Gahz'ranka inside Zul'Gurub.  Buy a stack and head back to ZG.

Make your way back to the water as before and circle around the water looking for Muddy Churning Waters, which appear and sounds like regular fish pools.  They also are identified on your mini-map, if you enable fish finding.  Each pool will only yield 2-3 Zulian Mudskunks, but there are 5 Muddy Churning Water pools, so gathering the needed 5 Mudskunks is no problem at all.  Once you have gathered 5 Zulian Mudskunks, combine them with a Mudskunk Lure and toss the created item into the waters.  You must be back at Pagle's Point for this to work.  As soon as you toss the Lure, you will get credit for the "Deadliest Catch" achievement and Gahz'ranka will begin to emerge from the waters.  Note: you don't need your fishing rod out to summon him, just toss the baited lure into the water.  Most classes can solo him at 80, and at level 70 a decent healer and tank combo is plenty to 2 man him.

Gahz'ranka is rather easy.  Fight him in the water so you take minimal damage from his geyser attack that tosses you high into the air and damages you on impact to the ground.  Kill him and loot your Tome of Polymorph Turtle.  Note:  The Mudskunk Lures from Nat Pagle are not soulbound, so you can mail these to other characters as well without them needing to do the quest chain.  The chain is super easy, its just very time consuming getting from ZG to Dustwallow and back again.  thats also why you should pick up a stack of the Mudskunk Lures while you are out there.  Just to save time for later attempts.  Gahz'ranka can only be summoned once per raid lockout.

Now either head to the auction house to make your gold or continue on to Farm the Rest of Zul'Gurub.

Banish Da Heart of Hakkar Mon!

Had a lot of time on my hands yesterday, so I decided to start on a project of farming Zul'Gurub solo.  I killed every boss, except for the Madness boss as I'm not an alchemist on Cold.  Basically what I am doing is gathering Bijous and Coins to send off to my priest so she can get to exhaulted to get the recipe for Living Action Potion, as well as the other recipes.  In the process, I got the Tome of Polymorph: Turtle (from fishing up the underwater boss Gahz'Ranka, lots of BoE blues that I will save until Cataclysm to sell to levellers, tons of greens to send to my enchanter to disenchant, Bijous and Coins Galore (using on alts, not selling), the Heart of Hakkar (banishing it in the above pic) for the Quest credit, around 1k gold from vendored trash and BoPs, an ass-ton of Runecloth (saving for Cata), oddball raw materials, and a bunch of stacks of Thorium Ore.  It took me about 5 hours total, not counting the 30 minute hiatus for the Stranglethorn Fishing Derby (got beat by 7 tastyfish, but did get the rare fish to add and extra +5 fishing from the high test line to my Ku'luak Pole - yay!).  Took me a long time because I was farming trash mobs over and over after respawns, just trying to get more loot and a chance at the raptor pet (fail).  Neither of the rare mounts dropped either.  Was an absolute blast to solo the entire thing.  Why is Jin'do the Hexxer harder than Hakkar?  Lots of gold to be made in ZG, if you are looking for something new to try.  Especially if you are not using the coins and bijous and are just going to sell them outright.

Fishing for Gold and Goodies

The Dalaran Fishing Dalies are a great way to get a chance at some high cash items as well as some great BoP items.  Fishing is probably the most hated prefession of all, but it can be a very lucrative profession.  This post won't touch on those topics.  This post is geared towards the Dalaran Fishing Daily Rewards.

There are 5 random fishing dalies.  Each requires you to be level 70 and they all reward 250 Kirin Tor Reputation, 12650-23980 XP or Gold (if 80) and 1 Bag of Fishing Treasures.

Some of these are easier and faster to do than the others.  The 3 easy ones are for the ghostfish, severed arm (thankfully changed in a recent patch), and the sewer quests.  Terrorfish is easy as well being in Wintergrasp, and the only far one is Blood is thicker, which is super easy and fast its just farther away.  Any of your eligible characters should be doing this daily or at least the ones in town when they are up in the rotation.  Some quick easy money with the chance for some awesome rewards in your bag.

This Bag of Fishing Treasures is the real reward here.  Each one has a chance to drop some great items such as Epic Gems, Unique Fishing Poles, Vendor trash, Deviate Fish, and all sorts of goodies.  After researching this topic, I just learned that there is a chance to get a Vanity Pet that I didn't even know about.  Hell, there are even vendor trash items that can be sold for 100g!

Here's the list of loot from the Bag of Fishing Treasures.  And if you get really lucky (0.2% chance) you may find a Tiny Titanium Lockbox, which can contain gems, stormjewels, green or blue BoE jewelry with random stats, or the epic BoE Ring:  The 5 Ring.  The 5 Ring (epic), The Lost Ring (blue), and Forgotten Necklace (blue) are all BoEs that only come from the Tiny Titanium Lockbox.  Good luck though the 5 ring has a 3% chance of being in the Tiny Titanium Lockbox which is only a 0.2% chance to be in the Bag of Fishing Treasures.  

The real key here is it takes just a few minutes to get the quest completed and get your reward bag to see whats in it.  Look at the list of goodies that can be in there.  Some of the greys like Diamond tipped Cane can be auctioned off as well.  They are sought by bank alts.  Who doesn't love vendor trash that sells for hundreds.  Maybe you get lucky and get a Sealed Vial of Poison or a  Waterlogged Recipe.  These are both worth hundreds.  While these dailies aren't guaranteed great gold, they do have a chance to be very rewarding for just a few minutes of work.  Also of note, they changed the horrible quest to get the severed arm from out in Borean Tundra fish pools to the area to fish for it being right outside the Violet Hold in Dalaran just yards from the quest giver.  These same waters are also great for fishing for a new tank food, Slippery Eel, which was added recently.  This little snack gives 40 dodge rating for 1 hour.

So get fishing!
